Thresh's Lantern is better than Kayle's Intervention by far

Thresh's lantern is probably the most broken ability in the game in terms of how well it saves allies. Recent poll that was conducted http://i.imgur.com/UMeoou3.jpg

Thresh's lantern is so strong as a basic ability that people would rather have a thresh lantern over Kayle's ultimate to save themselves. That's how strong it is, a get out of jail free card that forgives incredibly poor positioning and has little to no counter play nor any risk associated with using it.

The lantern is in a league of it's own with regards to how well it saves allies, not Janna, not Soraka, not Morgana, not Kayle can compete with it using all of their abilities.

The lantern needs to be nerfed in some way as it's horribly broken in it's current state.

Yet you can stop people from taking a lantern but i do agree it is a strong ability

i'd say they should give it the bard portal treatment and allow opponent(s) to take it

why would you suddenly change it, what downfall would an enemy get for taking lantern? for bards journey they move at a MUCH MUCH slower pace then your team. So if a team can grab it they would have 2 get a negative thing for doing such an action

i'd leave that for the balance team to figure out but right now there is little to no counter play - stepping over the lantern is all we've got

That IS counterplay.

Wasn't that removed?

"Save YOU from a bad situation." Going by that, it means you got caught by the enemy team or something like that, so of course Thresh's lantern is better.

Best way to save your team from an enemy engage? Janna's Ult

Best way to keep an ally alive who went headfirst into the enemy fight but needs to stay in? Kayle's ult.

And so on, all of them are useful in different situations, as they are different Champions.

janna's entire kit was on there and it got a tiny fraction of the votes compared to thresh's lantern

I think you've misunderstood your own results. you haven't shown effectiveness, but instead people's preferences. Now here's something I've noticed: most people regard that which has a greater visual effect to their own character or target be a greater effect. So a thresh lantern yanking someone clear across the screen is seen as having a much greater effect than a Kayle ultimate allowing them to die 3 seconds later than they would have. HOWEVER, shuld an unfavorable fight break out, thresh is likely to make the result less bad, while kayle's ult has the potential to turn the entire fight around.

there's no objective way to state which is better which is why i'm using stats and a random sampling of preferences

I voted for the lantern because it's got a lower cooldown so can save you more often, not save you more effectively.

The fact that it's not an ult AND that it has that shield tacked on...

Well, Thresh's kit is overloaded, more news at 11.

It really depends on the situation. What does Thresh's lantern do for me if I get ulted by Malzahar? A shield but then their entire team is going to jump on me and that shield won't last long. Kayle Ult on the other hand...

Are you really going to throw that lantern out in time to prevent a Blitzcrank hook? Morgana Black Shield on the other hand...

Karthus vs. Soraka ...I don't really need to explain that one...

Thresh's lantern...as bad situations go...get's people that are caught out of position or someone going HAM for the kill...

Sorry but 271 votes really doesn't say anything especially without a reference to how these people found the survey.

Wait wtf? This is not a troll thread? Come on.. You can't honestly take a poll that looks that way seriously. The informal font, the low amount of responses, the fact that it only asks about one specific situation, ...

Thresh's lantern is designed to get people out of a bad situation. That's what it does. Kayle ult isn't primarily designed to get you OUT of that situation. You use it on a champ that gets focussed so he can stay IN the fight longer.

The reason why Janna gets so few votes is probably because it is written poorly. If it said ult+tornado+shield, it would've had a lot more votes. / usually means OR. So people think that they'd have to use choose of those.

Soraka ult is a teamwide heal, not a single person escape. Morgana shield also prevails in situations where the casted ally stays in the fight.

Thresh has below 50% winrate at all levels of play in soloQ. His kit is overloaded, but he's received a lot of nerfs which makes him less effective overall. Thresh can make a lot of plays, but his raw stats are really weak so if he fails at making the plays, he is failing overall.
