Morde rework breaks record statistics

Commando Yi··113 votes·9,338 views

Mordekaiser was a champion who used to go to solo top where he maintained a win rate of 50.5% http://champion.gg/champion/Mordekaiser/Top

or he would go solo mid where he'd maintain a 49% win rate http://champion.gg/champion/Mordekaiser/Middle

Riot realized this champion was unhealthy and could not be balanced so they undertook the most ambitious rework ever seen in league history

As a result Mordekaiser has broken record stats across the board

He is now the best ADC in the game with a 56% win rate http://i.imgur.com/At0EDbj.jpg

He is now the worst support in the game with a 43.8% win rate http://i.imgur.com/trWzFPg.jpg

He is now the worst top laner in the game with a 41.25% win rate http://i.imgur.com/pZf8jRb.jpg

He is now the worst mid laner in the game with a 39.54% win rate - and the only mid laner in the 30-40% bracket http://i.imgur.com/YM49W2X.jpg

I'm not sure what riots goals were but either the morde rework has been a success in the sense that they've killed off the the viability of solo lane morde and forced him into the bottom lane where he is dominant or they've failed at trying to make a healthy balanced champion that can fill multiple roles on a team

A designer telling their playerbase that a champion that has been primarily a solo laner for years can no longer function in a healthy state in a solo lane is like spitting in their faces -- especially the Mordekaiser mains that have been playing him for years.

The fact that this rework made his solo lane garbage while making him even more unhealthy in a duo lane is just icing on the cake.

I wish Riot would just take the L when these "reworks" fail instead of breaking something even worse when it wasn't broken in the first place.

I'm gonna take a lot of heat for being the bearer of uncomfortable truths here, but Riot was totally right that Mordekaiser couldn't exist as a healthy solo laner with his old kit. Since he had no mobility or CC in his kit, he was just one giant ball of burst. That in combination with his shield made him a walking stat check; either you were bulky enough to survive his burst, or you just died.

But there's more. His playstyle pre-rework consisted of just pushing forever with his waveclear to keep shield up, and once you got Revolver his health costs were trivial at most. So now you're pinned under tower for the entire laning phase, have to get through his entire 300-400 damage shield before you can even START to do damage to him, and he's got a buttload of burst to kill you with.

Sure, he was a free kill when your jungler came. But if your jungler had other lanes to take care of, then Morde just beat many champions in solo lanes with very little effort because even though he had no mobility or way to lock you down, he was utterly impossible to trade with. He either won lane 90-10 with very little if anything that the other champion could do unaided, or he lost lane 10-90 and was completely useless for the rest of the game.

The reality is, the Mordekaiser that old Mordekaiser mains idealize and want to come back just created a horrible experience for whoever had to lane against him. In a duo lane, the combined power of two champions greatly helps in making the lane manageable, and giving Morde a support of his own makes his lane more variable and less "stomp or get stomped".

LOL the old mordekaiser was nerfed a lot since he was created, he wasnt strong in solo lane against most other champs, anyone with a CC beat him easily, if you were morde and just got near champions like riven and irelia, theyd just stun you and take half your health before you could do something so no, old morde solo was not op

Wonder if his ADC winrate will stay that high. Going by data, he loses a lot past the 20 minutes mark. Seems like ADCs are failling to lane against him and as a result he ends up carrying.

His situation is abnormal because, despite winning a lot, his actual CS, Damage done and kill count are amongst the lowest out of every ADC.

As for his solo, Riot stated they wanted him to be able to function by himself, so at least in this regard, it was a failure.

It also seems to mostly only work because they don't know how to face him. I wouldn't be surprised if his rates just keep dropping.

people get cheesed @ lvl 2 (he gets it before your opponent, no one is used to this because no champ gets lvl 2 before their opponents in botlane) and he snowballs like hell then

if you get used to this he's shit

Sire Hippington6 votes

it's not that much adc failing to lane against him. it's more that he reaches level 6 then they are level ~4, forces a dragonfight in which he has far more power than the enemie adc, takes a dragon ghost and walks down mid with it, snowballing from that point. The combination off his 'free exp' and the pretty overpowered dragonghost lead to early snowballing. However, just as many expected, he sucks in teamfights, getting the 3 Q-hits off on the right target won't happen, your not to tanky, and have no mobillity, one misstep and your fucked.

if played on a sololane, he does not have that level advantage, so no spike for a easy dragonfight, and no sup that covers your ass in lane, you negative mobillity really hurts alot toplane, if the enemie jungler decides to gank, all you can do is bent over...

They distinctly said they were transitioning him to be an ADC and thats where he would be strong. People are failing in solo lanes because they used to go there with him and dont get he isnt viable there anymore. Obviously his win rates there should be low. The same would be true if people went draven mid or top.

riot scruffy also made empty promises of retaining his strength in solo lane

True however most people should of realized this wasn't true. Riot can't make everyone happy.

i have a morde only account on lan servers called "numero uno"

this rework has been depressing

OyddAWqJ5r2 votes

Honestly though them saying Morde would be viable in other lanes is essentially the same as them saying Draven would be viable in other lanes. They've made that empty promise several times with several champions. Sona, Nami and Gragas come to mind.

We were told that they would try to keep him viable in solo lanes, not strong.

He aint even viable in solo lanes let alone strong.

he still can, how about we let the reworks be out a couple of weeks before we judge. Remember on Gnar's release everyone said he was total trash than people got good at him and now hes arguably the best top laner in the game

Artificial Human11 votes

The difference is that Mordekaiser was in the same state for a few years and Mordekaiser mains and players who play him generally got to know him very will. It's understandable that they are upset and i agree with most posts that the rework was a failure, mordekaiser shouldnt be in the botlane. If Riven would be reworked as a Botlaner, people would propably explode for rage because of their ''waifu''.

I used to play Mordekaiser and rarely in Season4 im not really that much affected by the change, but i can emphasize with the Mordekaiser players, it's simply unfair!

Rockoutwithmy4 votes

Gnar got buffs the patch after he was released. Lets not gloss over that, mate.

don't forget the later "nerf" to his W to make it deal magic damage, allowing him to buy things like item 3124 and item 3078 without wasting the AP. If i remember correctly, riot did that to nerf him and people thought he would be worse, but then people learned the benefits to it and it only made him even more menacing.

Photos of Ghosts2 votes

How is the scaling related to the damage type? It always scaled with AP,they just turned the damage to magic making him a lane bully as mini gnar

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

really? Honestly I don't remember what it scaled on before they changed it, though I do remember it was supposed to be a nerf (guessing they thought people only built AD on him and ignored his W). I just remember that people were complaining about it and I normally assume AP = Magic, AD = Physical.

Photos of Ghosts2 votes

They buffed the ratio by .1 in that occasion but it was already AP. Also Shyvana, Katarina, Shaco, Poppy, Morde, Yorick I believe, Skarner, maybe Ezreal and some others.

Phife4 votes

Riot said they would do something about solo lane morde if it wasn't up to par.

I believe he is suited for some solo lane buffs.

Mordepool3 votes

How exactly are they gonna balance for solo lane if he only has two laning abilities that's impossible

Phife8 votes

Well, for starters they could make his W do damage when he casts on him self but he can't reactivate it for a heal...

Vhalthoria8 votes

You need to understand that Morde got reworked with overall ADC-like stats and stuff. Even if they allow him to self cast W it won't revive his solo laning as buffing his base stats will broke him more than he is, this version will be a challenge to balance with all the overloaded garbage and overall power shift they decided to give him.

-He is squishier -His shield regeneration is low. -His movespeed has been nerfed to oblivion (Reason numero uno why he can't solo lane anymore.) -Without items he is useless. And his core now is way more expensive than Old Morde's and the only way to reach there quick is to farm champions. Something that you won't be doing against high level players.

This version is more like a brain dead caveman trying to split heads open with his heavy mace screaming to the enemy to be man enough to stand still and take the hit as a man/manette.

Let's just accept the Morde we used to dominate with and soloed is not anymore. I already did and it is why I quit him already.

7ball7 votes

even worse is that even though hes complete garbage now, theyll prolly nerf him due to his success bot so far, and then he will be complete shit in BOTH duo bot and solo

Ipols6 votes

You know what they say? Ain't broken, don't fix it

Vhalthoria5 votes

No matter what you build on this Morde, he always end up feeling shit and unsatisfying to play as.

Just played top, crushed the Fiora because she was obviously lagging, and ended 9/8, hard loss due to horrendous teammates.

This Morde can't carry games. End of the Morde discussion. Just let him die.

I don't want CertainlyT to be fired because that's a really mean thing to wish to somebody as I myself got a job and I'm a hard worker. But he should't be allowed to touch existing champions and instead be only allowed to create new ones as his ideas are sometimes wild and interesting, but obviously can't work on already existing stuff without severely breaking them.

And with that I officially quit this champion until they fix him.

mordekaiser bot does not work well unless you're up against the right team in my opinion because if a match goes out long enough late game you have no adc and usually a team gets a good amount of its ranged strength from adcs had a match the other day and it screwed us cuz the fed mordekaiser on our team couldnt do anything because he had to get in close to the front line tanks and be CC'd to hell.

Of course morde can play bot it just like when people play rengar bot, they completely over power adcs in the early game and winning that makes them get ahead in the match. i do not find this new mordekaiser reliable as an ADC.

Goosetard3 votes

As someone who has participated in the Morde rework discussion and followed it a lot, the best explanation I've heard are rumors that CertainlyT decided that morde shouldn't be viable in a lane by himself, made it so, and the team that communicated the changes wasn't on board with that fact.

Morde rework is crap. They should have made him an AP bruiser with CC. That fits his lore better than a melee ADC.

They should have excluded him from the rework line. His W got a situational speed buff pre-rework and that was wonderfully welcome. But after that, it all went to shit.

stealthfox944 votes

I have no idea why CertainT thought this was a good idea. It seemed fairly simple to make Morde a viable champ.

with CC.

He's literally the only champion in the game that doesn't have either mobility or CC. It's kinda his thing.

stealthfox943 votes

Yeah and that's part of his problem.

TotalJerk4 votes

If you want someone with CC or Mobility, you don't play Mordekaiser. Just like you don't play Vayne or Poppy if you want someone with AoE.

The Loveless2 votes

maybe when his visual rework comes along, he'll get something to fit his theme, instead of Riot feeling forced to keep a so-called "iconic" kit of no cc.

gaby1best4 votes

HE'S NOT A MELEE ADC! FFS. He goes bot and has a support. It doesn't mean he replaces the ADC in-game. If you're going Morde bot then you have to have an ADC in your team comp(Sivir mid, Vayne/Quinn top, melee ADCs). He's still a fucking AP Juggernaut(except that you can't build him full AP now; or can you?) and Juggernaut = slow, tanky, little cc, easily kiteable, once he reaches you you're fucked).

NyCrit2 votes

Honestly, the only thing that doesn't work well in his kit when building full ap seems to be his Q, everything else works just fine, and is still incredibly strong.

I really like playing the new Morde in bot lane because he has a support that hide his weakness: the mobility. He can still be kited easily 1v1, but if the team play around him, you'll have trouble. Not considering that I love breaking the meta!

It's not breaking the meta, it IS the meta.
