AP Support Items

First off this is a concept post with its main purpose in mind is to grant Riot cool ideas for new items for mage-supports; Like Sona, Nami, Zyra, etc the type of mages that still like supports since I feel there is a lack of cool ability power items that supports can buy, so when you see all of these items under 3000 gold that is because it is intended to be on a support budget.

All of these items are fucking disgusting.

I really like the ideas and I feel we really need some more items like this. Right now, way too many of the items you build similar to these force you into too much MP5, too much CDR, or both, or just don't give enough options to let you do enough things in enough situations. Although some of those would need to be rebalanced and I wouldn't recommend an item like that only having a 15 second cooldown. And that Zhonya's especially seems way OP. After considering the gargantuan utility of being able to use it on anyone on your team, and the greatness of extra movespeed, and lower cost, just for losing a little bit of AP, it's just too much better than the old Zhonya's.

I'm only gonna speak on the ones I think have potential though I think they are all good ideas.

Sunny's Lifecap

100 AP on a 2800 costing item....

Too much.

60 AP? Good enough. We don't want Lulu's Karma's and Orianna's building this midlane

Zhonyas Watch

Unique, I like it to be honest. Though 1.25 might be a bit too much. Maybe 1 second (I know it's just .25)

Rosie's Beads

BROKEN On SUSTAIN SUPPORTS

Change the Unique effect

Problem on All of The Items

I honestly think that you INSANELY GOOD ideas but the thing with AP Utility items are that: they are supposed to give a lot of base stats. You can't be givin' out 100 AP in a support item. Not even 80 to be honest. 60 Seems well enough.

AP utility scaling on supports is a big problem right now, these items are an awful idea that just further emphasizes the issue. This won't increase the playrates of Nami, Zyra or Karma; Sona is a lost cause and nothing will make her playable whilst Gutting 4.13 remains un-reverted and Nami/Bard both remain superior carbon copies of her. More likely than not, players WILL find a way to abuse these in mid lane and will just result in them and those champions getting nerfed. If you really want mage supports to be playable, they need a brand-new Utility-Scaling stat similar to "Willpower" in Infinite Crisis. Only then can we keep mid-lane mages out of the support role and begin buffing mage supports and reverting nerfs made to them as a result of AP-Utility(although Rito is deathly allergic to reverts.)

Lifecap: 100 AP makes this a max ap item the likes of Zonya's, Echo and Rylai's. It'll be abused by Lux, Orianna and Morgana and since it doesn't share a UNIQUE Passive name with Deathcap, they can build both together for dual-% scaling.

Chilling Wand: The cooldown is absurdly short and makes it essentially just a better copy of Nami's E. The fact it's a mana regen item with the same AP as Grail means any mid will abuse and makes it redundant on support next to Frostfang.

Mejai's: This item overlaps with Soulstealer and Rito won't add it for the same reason they refuse to have both Runic Echoes and Runeglaive in the game together. Again, it'll be abused by Lux, Ori and Morg.

Zhonya's: Wtf this thing is absurd. As if the MS weren't already a ridiculous tradeoff for 30 AP, the active is far more broken than Hourglass. In contrast to Hourglass which freezes you in place and can lead to misplays, this thing lets you continue moving and acting meaning it's impossible to misplay with it. It's essentially a superior version of Kayle's ult and the worst part of all of this: the active has a different name from Hourglass meaning you can stack both for over 3 seconds of invulnerability, not that that even matters since you can target allies making this a 100% buy on every AP champ every game.

Lightning Rod: 80 AP and yet more absurd MS, this item's gold efficiency is ridiculous. The fact that its passive has a different name other than "Echo" means you can build both together and essentially makes sieging literally impossible for the enemy team, especially considering the **4x damage to 6 minions. ** Just target your ADC and they 1-shot the entire minion wave, add in Shiv for good measure on the melee minions.

Beads: This WILL become the go-to mana item for every mid-laner. Especially with the unbelievably short cooldown.

If it weren't bad enough that all of these items on their own are game-breakingly OP, they actually work in tandem with each other allowing any mid to abuse all of them together. Beads' active pairs perfectly with Lifecap and Glorystealer meaning not just Lux, but literally EVERY AP champ can abuse ALL of these.

Lifecap does not increase your utility other than having a high AP Stat. It's a really good item on Utility Mids like Karma and Lux that have most of their utility on one ability and quite a bit of damage available in their other skills. There's way too many Lux complaints as is, so this is a bad item for the game.

Chilling Wand seems like it would be another Zeke's. Cut the AP down to 50 and make the active unable to apply to yourself and you'd have another niche item that some people would occasionally build.

Glorystealer is a more passive version of Soulstealer. I don't have the impression this would be an enjoyable item to play against.

The Watch has several issues. I think the AP should be slashed to 50 and the active changed. Probably something more like Time Travel : All allied champions within a radius become invulnerable for 1.5 seconds but are unable to attack or use abilities. It would be like a mobile aoe zhonyas that could easily be misplayed in the later stages of the game. The AP doesn't increase from the component items, making it a rather "meh" buy for mid-laners. It would stack with Zhonya's, which is why the AP needs to be lackluster.

Lightning Rod would be too powerful in Duo Bot Lanes. Waveclear would be unstoppable. Everyone would hate playing against this.

Beads seems like something I would build on an Annie/Brand/Vel'Koz support. The cooldown is way too short. Maybe 45 seconds. Doubt this will see mid-lane abuse, since Morello gives better stats and a mid-laner doesn't need a passive that only works on allies. You could probably build this on Sona or Nami to make an unbearable sustain lane. 60 seconds might be better.
