Any Pre-Season Changes and New Players
This is help Riot be aware, but please Riot make sure any changes you implement to league during any Pre-Season is simple and easy for new players can get into. Things like evolving Summoner Spells over level ups [season 4 pre-season] or different Smites and Smiting certain creatures to give certain effects [season 5 pre-season] complicates things unnecessarily, giving a different buff every time you kill dragon complicates things too- dragon could give a powerful duration based buff that scales as the game goes on or a smaller but permanent buff that infinitely stacks based on how many dragons the team slays. Also, Smite could have a passive to grant fancy buffs on certain monsters and bonus exp and gold on monsters and keep a low cooldown for objective control which is why Smite should be brought. Smite should be known to be an objective controlling spell, not about ganking or jungling, junglers obviously jungle so it makes sense that the player always around objectives to have the objective control spell.
I am an early season 1 veteran and what brought me to lead is watching some gameplay of Lux [despite that I hate Lux and my very first game played was with Malzahar, but I love playing the mages] the game was fun to look at and easy to look at with the brighter colour palette [not like Dota, Dota is super hard to look at or understand what is going on for someone who has never played, but league was never like that, i did not know anything about league at the time and fully knew what was going on despite knowing nothing about champions, abilities or items - the jungler was the most confusing part though]. The actual gameplay experience was very fun, and when I joined I praised how good the server quality was and the community was the best gaming community [as the game grew over time we got toxic people coming in, but the good community it still here, the toxic ones might be more vocal though].
League is easy to get into with only having 10 champions to choose from when you start out you are not overwhelmed [not until you open the shop that is YIKES] plus when you get in game, there are A LOT of items, but with the help of recommended items [even if the build was trash] I was able to play the game and learn about it without worrying about items until eventually I started building my own builds [i remember not knowing boots did not stack so i built Berserker Grieves, Ninja Tabi Heimerdinger in the same game, also R.I.P. stacking gold items how we Heart of Gold knew thee].
League's ease of getting into eventually grew into more and more gameplay and kept playing for years later because league has that very complex [and competitive] and mastery level to it to try to be the very best, and since the game is always changing with patches every 2 weeks [Riot, you have been slacking with patches lately, tisk tisk] and new content was added every 2 weeks these feature keep you playing as well [i know champions every 2 weeks cannot be done anymore but new items and new champions rotation could happen].
I am pretty sure I am getting off track now, so I leave you with the wall of text above.
tl;dr : League should be an easy and simple game first and foremost while still having the complexity and mastery level it has to keep people interested, plus ever changing game with new content flowing in helps with keep players interested
