Taric's ult is now essentially an AoE Kayle ult

Albeit with a delay.

Will Taric become a contested pick on competitive games just because of this spell?

Possibly.

The delay is BIG deal, though.

Except that it only affects your team and lets them move, attack, and cast spells.

We may actually see Taric get banned for once.

It sounds amazing on paper, but the delay is something to worry about. It probably won't have much use as a reactive ability since most assassins and such can kill a target in under 3 seconds (that's roughly how much the delay lasts, going by the video). Honestly, new Taric looks like a champion that will need a lot of effort to pull off well but will be godlike when you manage to do it.

It won't save your team from getting wombo'd or your carries from getting one shot. Nobody's going to look at an ulting Taric and think "lol perfect time to engage"

Don't know why you're being downvoted so hard for speculation.

Even if it's not the best reactive ability, it looks to be a damn strong teamfighting ability. Gives him a clear advantage working with teams that are based around collapsing on prime targets, especially around contesting dragon and baron where teamfights are a bit more difficult to fan out and engagement points fairly predictable.

Since the R also works off his W target, it should be fairly easy to spread to most of the team.
