Can someone give me some tips to fight Yasuo?

Eternal791··24 votes·6,023 views

At this point, my hatred for Yasuo has burned my heart away and continued to cook me inside and out with hellish rage. So any tips about playing against Yasuo (tactics, counters, weakness, etc.)?

I don't have any midlane champs I'm good at, I'm not good at jungle and the only toplane champs I'm good with right now are Camille and Yorick and I might start play Darius soon.

If you are talking about midlane then Yasuo is usually weak against other Assassins (Akali used to be a hard stomper before the rwork and still is I guess) while some mages can still get on top of him (Xerath and Ziggs are safe, Swain is a hard counter even toplane and Syndra too can be good if you manage not to get walled your ult).

Toplane then Darius is a good choice but you have to keep him in check because a failed AoE is a trade win for him, Swain is good too, Pantheon should also be powerful against him.

After laning your job is to never let him get to your squishies, this doesn't mean that you should meatwalling them, if you know he is going to knockup+ult just get out of the knockup area, you can stun him while in air, negate his damage and proceed to kill him.

Vel'koz is probably the safest pick as his AA and ult completely by pass windwall to pop his shield when ever it's up or to simply annihilate him with a stacked ultimate. His poke combo is safe, with MS runes+boots you can easily dodge his tornado forcing him to dash to you in order to get off an ult. By that point you can simply EW him and either disengage/all in.

No champ has worked for me quite as well as the tentacle monster that also managed to scale just as well as yasuo.

kled works 2 in both lanes however he drops off and starts losing trades when yas gets PD. Early if you dash then Q once you're on him it's doubtful he will windwall you and landing Q instantly wins you the trade if you get a few W autos in. Once he gets PD and winning trades you can out roam him with kled ult.

SO to the OP. GiveKled or Velkoz a try

Stars Shaper2 votes

I wouldn't give Vel'koz to an inexperienced player against a Yasuo, mostly because the 2 are heavily reliant on outplayng the other since mechanic-wise they can counter eachother with half of their kits.

Ekko seems a good choice since he doesn't have to use his Q from a mile, Cho'gath eats Yasuo alive too.

Petranese1 votes

This. Any half-decent Velkoz makes Yasuo cry, in both early and late

Poske1 votes

Yasuo main here

Yasuo rapes velkoz with his own tentacles

TheSingularity1 votes

Tell that to the yasuo's who can't handle deadmans vel'koz. YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME ALIIIIIVE!

Legit doe, I out run his E. Dead mans does delay my damage but I don't need to kill you, I just have to not die to you and deadmans+boots+MS runes allows me to do just that.

After that I just wittle you down with QW and eventually you'll be low enough to start blocking my spells with windwall so you don't have to leave lane. If you all in I bait winwall with E and run. if E lands I wombo you and win

Poske1 votes

You underestimate my yas

You would go 0,5 in avg without checking your division

God yasuo > shits on god velkoz

TheSingularity1 votes

I very well may be underestimating ur yas. I've yet to vs a god yas and I'm far from a god vk. However one does not need to be a god in a majority of divisions. In the OPs case, I doubt he'd need to deal with a god tier yasuo and thus merely has to survive as a sub par velkoz.

If I had two bans, Yasuo would be the second.

Lee would be the first. Both are brokenly overpowered and faceroll easy to play.

Eternal7914 votes

Eh, only ever found Lee Sin a problem when I'm Jinx. I can usually snap him like a twig as Camille and Yorick.

TheLastShadow454 votes

This is completely irrelevant the ops post(again you do this). They asked how to fight yasou, not ban him.

Are you ever going to give useful info or are you just going to be the designated shitposter?

That is correct.

criticals are ridiculous, but armor prevents them pretty well. once yasuo has criticals AND armor penetration your best bet is to just buy HP and try to combo a basic attack into a burst of spells to one shot him or run away.

because of how lethality and percent armor penetration works it's very difficult to counter yasuo's build just by buying items.

item 3031 item 3142 item 3035 are your biggest concerns, but item 3046 is also a big issue on him.

you'll need to choose a champion that can block yasuo's critical pokes. yasuo is a fighter. pantheon might be a good choice, but i dont have any personal experience playing him against yasuo.

ahri might work also since you can poke through the minion wave while running away and she does true damage.

since yasuo IS a fighter you want to avoid long drawn out battles with him.

Doozku2 votes

All of those top laners you play destroy him, especially darius. I don't know about Camille, but with Yorick, play passive till you get your ghouls and then all in him.

Eternal7911 votes

Yeah I just bought Darius for this reason. Yorick, I haven't played a whole lot until recently and I've only fought one Yasuo that I can remember... and I did destroy him. Camille on the other hand is interesting. There's lots of champs that counter her early game (like Yasuo) but not late game as long as she manages to not feed and keep up with levels and gold. With some exceptions, Camille can pretty much 1v1 anyone from when she gets Trinity Force and on.

Doozku1 votes

I remember Camille being able to duel everyone but idk anymore after the nerfs. I haven't played her at all. But from what I've seen, your best bet is to go in when he tries to trade with you and get some short trades in with your shield. If you beat him post Trinity, but you can't fight him early, just play really passive and farm up, and auto attack him to get your shield if he trades with you.

Eternal7911 votes

Even before the nerfs Camille sucked against Teemo, Yasuo and Darius early game and Fiora, Xin Zhao and Poppy all game. There's probably more too.

Sad though, he used to be a solid counter to Yasuo.

Shahamut2 votes
  1. respect his levels 1-3.

  2. what beats yasuo is a combination of burst and cc. So top lane champs like Renekton, or midlane champs like Annie do well against him.

Are you looking for specific lane Match up tips?

Tensec2 votes

Walk randomly and he misses qs

Metalrichdog2 votes

My honest to god first thing to say in regards to tips would be to play the champion for maybe 10 games in a row if possible. You'll figure out a few of his major downfalls there (Relatively weak early compared to bruisers and can be set behind; tends to play up a bit more or push; cocky/baitable)

Looknook2 votes

Pick Darius and make him cry. That match is swingy but starts out in Darius's favor. I would tell you more but I don't play either champ much so my knowledge is limited. I would say do Darius things to Yasou.

If your playing Mid Malz used to be really good into him. He is still ok but you have to play passive until you have your ult. Also rush Rylais then get either a Morrello or Liandries. After that whatever you want. Yas can only windwall your Q, and the Rylais will slow him enough to have you monsters eat him to death. Just be careful not to over extend if your ahead. The enemy jungled showing up to gank while your over half way is almost certain doom.

MorgManBasher1 votes

Mordekaiser for me is my go to pick, personally. He can never really deal with you, all he can do is dash around and do his best to stay the Hell away from you trying to farm up.

Also rushing item 3047 is always a solid pick up if you are on a bruiser/tank champ.

Another champion I like that is more mage is Velkoz simply because I can ult through his wall. Can be tricky, but he can 100 to 0 yasuo item 3151 item 3285 item 3157 item 3158 item 3135 item 3089 Generally run flash/exhaust

But yeah, if you want straight up yasuo running from you, play Mordekaiser Darius

Eternal7911 votes

Yeah, I just bought Darius and did a few practice round with my friend, so hopefully I can finally deal with Yasuo. And thanks for the tips.

Yasuo is more matchup dependant in that he is very powerful against immobile mages and anything resembling a marksman. I figure that if you hate him that much you likely main such mages, so sadly outside of learning picks against him you're out of options. However strong lane bullies can easily trade with him and push him out of lane or kill him, hard cc and point and click screw him over as well. Always engage him early after he uses his nado and be very wary of lvl 1 trades, as he's very strong level 1.

I'd suggest playing picks like Talon, Annie, Swain, Pantheon, Darius, Leblanc, Tryndamere, Wukong, and other champions which pack an easy hard cc and high burst at a close range absolutely take a crap on him. His weakest points are midgame if he's not allowed to snowball and most other champions will me straight up stronger than a behind or even Yasuo at levels 7-12, and he has trouble roaming effectively with his kit. He hits a big powerspike at PD+IE and unless you're a strong counter, or he's hitting that spike from behind, he'll be impossible to duel. In teamfights he's an easy focus, as he's a squishy melee adc. Once you start viewing him as essentially a melee lucian it helps, because he's similat to that, he'll shred you if you can't get a proper cc or engage on him, but once you do he's pretty boned.

Bruisers and juggernauts with stickiness who can buy randuins omen or stack some health like Trundle, Kled, Renekton, Jarvin IV, Fiora, Jax, Olaf, Irelia, Mord, and Garen ruin his day too. If you're that evil you can play Zilean too. Zil can really make a Yasuo ragequit, but i hate Zilean he's very annoying, and think that's like bringing yourself lower than the Yasuo player.

Sadly a lot of the play against Yasuo is to pick a matchup that ruins him, so stop playing lux mid into him. Or at all. It's trash currently. It's easy to beat him with a counter, and still fair with a skill matchup like zed or syndra so long as you engage him at the right time and once you've hit lvl 6 (so if you know the matchup). Yasuo has a very bad winrate in games that end before the 25-30 minute mark, so if you can play well early and crush him in lane he'll be about as useful as a screendoor on a submarine. Good luck killing the weebsuo!

Troll for Trump1 votes

Darius is a short-term solution, because as soon as the Yasuos are competent, Yas starts countering Darius. Same w/ Riven v Darius.

Riven is the best long-term solution, but takes a ton of effort to learn. Renekton can work, but, by the time you picked him up, he'll probably be nerfed again. Garen is only effective at low elos, like Darius. Still isn't that great of a counter. Camille is fine as a counter, but you have to be more patient with Yas than with other matchups

Eternal7911 votes

Camille is really only good against Yas mid to late game if she didn't fall behind or got fed off of someone else. Early game you pretty much have to just farm under turret the whole time which is never fun.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Basically every matchup against Yasuo makes you play safe, which sucks. Because he punishes you pretty hard for oversteeping your boundaries, but isn't punished as hard for overstepping his.

Joseraph1 votes

Jax is a free win against Yasuo. You beat him after level 3, unless he gets a knock up on you past level six, and even then you still have a decent chance at beating him. Build something like Titanic>Tabis>Tri-Force>Randuin>Gunblade>GA/Rageblade and you honestly one-shot him. In teamfights you do everything he does, but better. Your cc is more consistent, you blow up carries, and you don't get ez-baked like he does if you get CC'd. His minion clearing might be better than you, but no one melts turrets quite like Jax.

Champions that already wanna be on top of him in fights (divers, assassins, juggernauts, other skirmishers) will do very well against him if you get off good trades.

Early on, if he's spamming his dash, he will autopush the lane and leave himself open for ganks

Is weak after using 3rd Q

Missing Q in a trade costs him a lot

Trading without passive up is very difficult for him

E dash direction is usually predictable.

auto him from a safe distance to keep procing his shield. Back the hell off or stand in a way so he can't easily dash to you. If he does, step back. Keep poking with Q (his windwall can't block it).

Dodge tornados and step back whenever he all ins. Poke with Q until he's low.

Go all in with your R when your Q is empowered, don't miss your E.
