Does anybody realize they legally cant call the new skin "dauntless" because of legal issues with the divergent movie series and books right? oh wait I forgot boards is full of 15 year olds with no concept of copyrights or trademarks....

Arcade Andrew1 votesthat's what a trademark is you silly uneducated boy, and anyone can use the word "dauntless" but they cant use that word to name a product or idea that would in turn make money from it, because the divergent series has already trademarked and copyrighted that word because the author of the book made that up... its a name of a faction in the book.

that's not at all how trademarks work. Dauntless is a characteristic. Dauntless Ahri would be fine because it could be justified as describing a primary trait for the champion. You can't call dibs on a word in a fashion that it can no longer be used to describe that which it defines.
Arcade Andrew1 votesThats exactly how a TM works, like how you trademark a logo, dauntless itself isnt trademarked, but legally the word is TM'ed because it is part of the divergent series of movies and books, and is a major theme/name/item in the book that the author made up, THEREFORE ritosenpai cant just go and call something dauntless without A: consulting their legal team, B: getting permission to use the name from the series which would lead them to have to pay to use the name "dauntless"
also on a secondary note: if you are rich enough? you can trademark anything you want and then everytime somebody used that word or phrase to earn money, youd owe money to the TM
