Whats the point of placements when MMR exists?

Honestly,just look at the players you're paired with and you know which elo you're gonna be in. It pretty much just exists so rito can say its a new season.

Placements are just your first ten games. That's all.

in 3s, i went 9-1 in placements and got plat 1.

If I went 1-9, I would've gotten silver/bronze.

That's the point of placements

fully cuz when i go 7-3 i make bronze 4 if i go 1-9 do i get unranked again?

Your MMR is particularly sensitive during your placement matches, and it's your final mmr that is the only thing that matters for where you're placed.

Really, all of the rank system is just cosmetic (perhaps apart from challenger), but people like having more visual goals to shoot for and people for some reason feel better about falling in MMR as long as they retain their rank (which is related to why many people have a nasty shock in the following season when their mmr turns out to have been somewhat below their actual rank).

Because they like to put people Leagues before their actual skill level and force em to waste time climbing to a place they have already been and have the skill to be at.
