Varus kit feels kinda like a AD Support

He doesn't really out-damage anyone when compared to every ADC...

Ashe Caitlyn Corki Draven Ezreal Jhin Jinx Kalista KogMaw Lucian MissFortune Sivir Tristana Twitch Vayne Xayah

##Explanation as to how

Ashe - Her Q with item 3153 item 3085 item 3071 shreads everything. Caitlyn - Her Headshot passive easily outdamages him. Corki - His mixed damage just deletes anything. Draven - Axes and massive crits + item 3812 . Ezreal - His Q poke applies on-hit effects that deals so much damage with item 3147 item 3153. Jhin - 4th Shot missing health Crits. Jinx - Q + item 3031 item 3094 item 3087 item 3085 any of these items just deals half of your health per charge. Kalista - Easily dodge's skillshots with her passive and just kites better. KogMaw - W range + health % damage and extreme right clicking. Lucian - Quicker burst. MissFortune - Lethality + Crit still hurts, plus high mobility and strong ult. Sivir - Spell shield counters all of his spells, Q + W deals more damage than people realize. Tristana - Safest ADC, with high damage. Twitch - Stealth & R. Vayne - Tons of mobility + true damage, and crits. Xayah - Stacks feathers, with Q + W + R and then deals tons of damage with E.

His kit feels too much utility based, his R to root people that deals magic damage, his E that slows enemies. But his passive is essentially useless late game if his allies don't kill anyone that again refers to the whole utility thing I just mentioned, he doesn't really have any kind of power of his own.

Yes I know his W blight proc'ing with 3 stacks deals 15% of the target's maximum health but even then it requires him to attack an enemy 3 times and then cast an ability to deal that damage which takes long and by then Lucian for example could of potentially done his whole combo in that time.

Varus as a champion has so much potential on being better referring to what he was like in lore, his play style has shifted many times over time...

  • Critical Strike > Lethality Q poke > Critical Strike > On-Hit Attack Speed?

His kit is just so unclear and confusing that it doesn't feel like there's any right way of building him right anymore. He doesn't represent this badass archer that he is in his lore, and overall his kit is just a bit basic and boring (Coming from someone that has mained him since season 5). He is essentially facing a similar problem like Aatrox , with having a confusing identity.

I wouldn't say that. I actually very much enjoy Varus, however I agree that perhaps his building is a bit awkward. I will try best to explain why I build a certain way For starters- I typically build him with on-hit, similar to how Kog'maw is now built (Rageblade, Runaans, Bork, Wits end, ect). The reason why is that with his W, he actually puts out a decent amount of Magic damage compared to say, a Lucian, or a Jinx. Additionally, having on-hit means he spikes rather fast compared to other champions. An IE is a great item, but not till around the 3 Item mark, whereas Rageblade turns Varus almost unduelable. This means rather than compare him to all AD carries, we should instead look at other typical on-hit marksmen. These, in my opinion, include Kog'maw, Vayne, and Ezreal. So why pick Varus?

Kog'maw has very low mobility, and very low self-peel. However, he does have incredible teamfight damage, and scales amazingly into the late game. Vayne has low range, and is primarily single target damage, but is unquestionably one of the best Duelist Marksmen in the game and deals immense damage, especially to tanks. Ezreal has respectable damage, and spikes faster than most Marksman with a Sheen (which costs 250 gold less than a BF) So where does Varus fit in?

I think it is fitting to label the others in this way- Ezreal has the lowest damage, but high safety Vayne has high single target damage, and mediocre safety Kog'maw has high multi-target damage, and little to zero safety.

Varus fits in somewhere between Ezreal and Vayne. He has lower damage than Vayne, but is comperable due to being able to build on-hit with a Runaans as well as having multi-target damaging abilities. He has longer attack range than most Marksmen, and his ultimate is useful for both self-peel and engage.

Does that help at all?

I enjoy playing Varus too.

I agree with everything you just wrote, thanks for your opinion on this it helps me to see this from different points of view. The one thing I didn't like is that Varus is become this KogMaw 2.0, but the problem with building varus on-hit is that his Q and E become useless other than to proc blight stacks.

All I want for Varus is to have a kit that works well all together and not be this half ap, half ad ranged mage/marksman that also has a more interesting way of afflicting blight to his enemies.

If you would prefer, there is a way to play Varus in a more fun way, although less efficient. Try building a Tear, then building into Duskblade, Youmuus and Deaths Dance. Q's can do upwards of 1000 damage and are on a 5-6 second cooldown. I would recommend this build in the Mid lane, as it is rather bad at trading and skirmishing 2v2

Yes I am quite aware of this play style, but thx for the suggestion regardless.
