Vel'Koz: What I Think Riot is Saying and Where Vel'Koz Could Go

While Riot has truly screwed up in the past with reworks, they have stuck with what they thought! While this has been a problem most of the time, this may come in as something good for Vel'Koz's rework. Riot currently thinks Vel'Koz is:

  1. Healthy
  2. Fun to play

This leads me to believe that they don't want to take this away from him. You know what this also means? In order to retain his healthiness and amazing fun to play as, I believe they won't exactly be changing his kit too much. Think what they did to Garen. His kit is the same, same functions. However, eh got an added mechanic along with his current kit to make him more thematic and distinctive to play. For example, keep Vel's current kit, but give him a passive that changes how he wants to play. For example:

Passive- Research Whenever Vel'Koz procs his passive, he gains a stack of Research on that particular enemy champion, giving him unique interactions against that particular champion that increase his effectiveness against them.

This could be attached to his current R similar to Garen's Villain passive. This way, Vel'Koz, instead of midnlessly attacking his enemies with a barrage of tentacles, attacks, and void bolts, now might want to choose a specific champion to "examine". Perhaps interacting with X champion would allow Vel'Koz to gain a specific piece of knowledge that will allow him to perform Y overall better. Perhaps researching an enemy who has been seen to be casting a spell with constant mobility will modify Vel'Koz's Q to make the unsplit bolt root his target. Perhaps researching an enemy who has been seen to be channeling spells allows Vel'Koz's E to be cast quicker and from a longer range. Vel'Koz observes, researches, then adapts! It's a perfect reason to pick him for a team! He is adaptable to an enemy's team composition, allowing him to be a good pick against teams that overly rely on a certain strategy, forcing the enemy team to adapt how they play so that they become more difficult for Vel'Koz to research them.

Maybe I should use my mobility spells less so Vel'Koz will research the wrong adaptation and then use my mobility once he has already adapted and can't research for a little bit to take advantage of a Vel'Koz that hasn't correctly adapted! It's the perfect play style! Enemies have to think about not only what their actions will do now, but also what they will cause in the future! Players have to truly, all across the map, play to make sure Vel'Koz doesn't gain too much knowledge of them! They have to: Keep the eye blind to what is actually needed. You have to blind Vel'Koz to make him see not what is your true strength, but a secondary strength that you wouldn't mind him wasting an adaptation to counter when you can use your primary power while he has wasted his time adapting around the wrong strategy.

If the enemy does not play around Vel'Koz, he can adapt to become, essentially, the MOST POWERFUL champion in the game. If the enemy plays around Vel'Koz, he can only adapt to negate their secondary strengths while leaving their primary strengths glaring.

Vel'Koz, the Eye of the Void, could become a true being of knowledge without hardly any heavy modifications to his current kit!

I'd still rather have them leave him alone. Their track record with group updates like this isn't exactly something to put confidence in.

That's a little bit cowardly don't yo think? Instead of making use of the possibility of change, you are too scared to try it?

Also, let's look at the record shall we?

Garen- Success Darius- Success after a delay Skarner- Slight Failure Mordekaiser- Absolute Failure at first, but is turning into a Success Graves- Success Caitlyn- Overall Success Miss Fortune- Huge Success Kogmaw- Currently a failure Quinn- Up to opinion Corki- Overall Success

I can't find the failures except for a select few that have been promised change. Have faith. Because change is coming, so make use of it the best you can!

Cass Failure Morde Still failure Karma failure Skarner failure

  • and its also not so much failures as the original players of the champion being left in the dirt with no compensation. I used to be a Cass main before her desolation now I'm a sad man hanging onto Vel'koz as my only true main and I don't want the risk of him getting hurt just because someone at Riot wants to try changing him.

There are plenty of mages who need tweaking more than Vel. Why does he have to be one of the Guinea pigs?

Why is Morde a failure? He is currently being changed to restore some of his former self and, from Ive heard, Morde mains love these ongoing, especially recent, changes. Also, Cass is getting reworked this time, meaning they are going to improve her from their recognized failure. I don't play Karma. Skarner is only a partial failure. They didn't change much about him and added a mechanic. Honestly, Skarner is pretty great right now, he just isn't the current Top Tier.

Also, only two of those are group ones and they are from their first Group Rework. They have also recognized their mistakes with both Morde and Skarner and have said they want to change them.

Also, you are proving their point that change is scary. They have announced NOTHING of what they are changing, but the simple mention of him being changed scared you. They could pull a Garen and just add a passive to his ultimate that redefines his game, leaves the rest of his kit intact, and you would have complained for NOTHING. His old kit could still be there, but just a new passive added.

So, instead of saying, "Don't change him! I dont know what you are changing, but DONT!", say, "Hey, lets capitalize on this opportunity to make him better." What kind of Main looks at change for their champion and is afraid? Look at change and think about how your main could be better, ESPECIALLY when they are asking for feedback in order to shape these reworks.

Please, provide real feedback to make Vel better or don't post at all! And don't throw out the bullshit answer of "But he is perfect." Wrong, if we was perfect he would be played by everyone. He would have Lee Sin popularity. He is NOT perfect. Now, we have been given the chance to make him perfect. So... MAKE HIM PERFECT!

Fair enough. As long as you acknowledge the inherent risk that may come with searching for a reward.

The thing is, I like Vel's kits as it is. Its balanced and fair and requires skill and timing to use not to mention predicting your opponents moves.

If they give him something extra on top of that though they'll need to take something away in return.....that is my issue with reworks

We could get a MissFortune -like update and that would be awesome!

or

KogMaw- Like update and Vel mains have to wait years until he's touched again.

I admit I'm reacting prematurely but they wanted feedback and its nearly unanimous that people like Vel'koz the way he is and the general consensus is that champions being updated is a double edged sword.
