I'm sick and tired of the Yi excuses

He does a lot of damage and can tank pretty well in a pinch. The new jungle items just magnify this even more. And nerfs to the jungle items wont fix the problem.

How do you CC someone who doesn't require a gapcloser when his ult is up and you can't slow him to kite him? The second he gets on someone he is going to alpha to dodge CC or do it before hand.

I'm getting tired of all the "BUT HARD CC". Hard CC my ass. Every champ is weak to CC. Yi has an anti slow and a gapcloser than doubles as a high damage source capable of criting 5 people and invincibility frame. He even has a passive that lets him heal and reduced damage heavily even if he flicks it on just long enough for the damage to register. Yi isn't hard, and his skill floor and ceilings are extremely low yet he requires you to counter pick to kill him effectively late game.

Build thornmail? Have fun with his true damage and massive life steal and armor pen making that not do anything but slow his life steal.

Yi needs an actual weakness. Building GA or Zhonya's doesn't solve his problem as he has extremely high dps and can just kill everyone else while you are down and you are your teams damage. As it is Yi is able to trade 2 for 1 with ease which is something that assassins wish they could do late game but he is a melee carry diving a team by himself.

As it is now, you need at least 2 hard CCs to kill a Yi. That means you have 2 less CCs to use on his team and a good Yi won't just split push the entire game. He will participate in team fights and mop up while everyone's CC is down because that is the only thing that can stop him.

The other excuse that he dies in 5v5s. OFC he does. Any coordinated team can wreck a single person that is simple common sense that isn't a weakness that is just logic.

Either:

  • Remove his AS slow immune (that is where he grew out of hand is when he gained this)
  • Make his heal reduce less damage (means he has to pick his fights more carefully)
  • Tweak his Q so it isn't a spammable invincibility frame (ults tend to be the only sources of these, for a good reason, why is his spammable)

I'm sick and tired of the yi complaints.

Exhaust reduces his damage, any hard cc lets you focus him into oblivion, and he is a melee carry. Melee carries need ridiculous steriods to be competitive.

Cale0171 votes

Not like Yi has a ridiculous steroid on top of true damage or anything, right?

Jefftiffy1 votes

They nerfex Ex to stop it from wrecking assassin's. Problem is they gave it more AS reduction, not like his ult stops that or anything.

Hard cc counters yi harder than it does other champions. You land hard cc on a ranged champion, you still have to get to them to use it (often with their team between you for peel). You land hard cc on a tank/bruiser and you don't accomplish much.

You land hard cc on a yi? He's already right in your face and you can blow him up.

He is viable in certain team comps, but as you said, hard cc counters everyone. So if you're picking your first 4 champions with no hard cc and they can make a late Yi pick, you've probably already made the mistake even if they didn't take yi. Not to mention it's not like he's unbeatable without hard cc, it's just a lot harder.

IT DOESNT YOU IDIOT STOP SPREADING LIES.

CC Yi=same if I CC Jax. But Jax can't just fucking roll his face on the keyboard and kill an entire team after it or dodge it. And you act like all cc lasts longer than 1s when most lasts a good .5-1.5s which isnt enough to blow up a yi if ur not a ADC.

YI NEEDS HIS OWN WEAKNESSES GOING WITH GENERAL ONES DOESNT SOLVE PROBLEMS.

There's a difference between reading lies and having actual, in game experience that says Yi is countered by CC. Just because you have not figured out how to fight Yi does not mean he is impossible to fight, stop living in your sheltered world and learn.

If you think that Jax is less scary than Yi, you are SADLY mistaken.

ffs this kid is mad.

Not really. Im just tired of listening to idiots trying to balance the game. Its like putting monkeys behind a computer and telling them to balance. They just punch in random numbers and dont mess with what matters. They think in narrow spectrums instead of broad.

Yi needs an actual weakness.

One of the weakest early games. Requires a full damage build to be effective. Squishy in all phases of the game. Only one damaging ability in his kit, the rest is steroid and a defensive. Typically wrecked by all other assassins and melee carries in the game.

Yeah, no weakness what so ever, sure. /sarcasm...

Cale0171 votes

His weak early game is entirely negated by playing him in the jungle, where he can farm that Devourer's at his leisure and walk out at 6.

True, he's very much an assassin.

He's squishy, but surprisingly survivable given the sheer amount of lifesteal you get when your ult is active. Bit of a gray zone there.

Technically he has three damaging abilities. Keep in mind that Wuju Style adds significant true damage to his attacks. It's not a damaging ability in the strictest sense, but that's like saying Irelia's Wuten Style isn't either. When they activate it, you know. You can feel it. His ult isn't a damaging ability in the natural sense, but treating it like it doesn't increase his DPS wildly is inaccurate.

That much I agree on. Yi requires at least a few seconds to really kill someone. If you can get the drop on him with Katarina, Akali, or Diana he's pretty much finished, and Fizz can dodge his Q easily enough. Whether or not Fizz can survive afterwards is the tricky part.

I'm not saying that you're wrong for stating he has no weaknesses, just pointing out why they aren't as glaring as you're making them out to be. Most can be avoided, or negated by his pure damage output.

Jefftiffy1 votes

This guy pretty much has my point in mind. The weaknesses aren't glaring or defined. Its more of general weaknesses that every champ has.

Let's look at a similar hyper carry. Yasuo. He has a gapcloser with a CD that is pretty good but shit for chasing a single target and he get's no AS steroid but some decent but unreliable CC. Why would I take Yasuo when I could have Yi?

Kuroi861 votes

I look at Wuju Style and Highlander as steroids more than damaging abilities. But semantics there.

Personally, and this is just me, if I see Yi jungle, I'm going to counter jungle. And I'm not taking any lube with me for Yi's sake, but that's just me.

I'm not saying that you're wrong for stating he has no weaknesses, just pointing out why they aren't as glaring as you're making them out to be.

Mk, now I can understand how you feel. Perhaps nerf scaling on some of his abilities in early ranks?

Unfortunately, Yi is one of the champions that's got a low skill level to play effectively because he's meant to be used by beginners. If you notice, he also doesn't bring a lot of utility to a fight, so his only real contribution to a team is through his damage. If there weren't stacking on hit items in the jungle right now it wouldn't be so bad, but unfortunately there is.

Yi is a perfect example, much like Warwick or Annie, of being so simple that it's rewarding to pick a champion instead of to play one. He requires little to no strategy, and his itemization is incredibly easy. This makes him very easy to learn, but very easy to abuse. If you notice, a fed Yi doesn't get as much respect as a fed anything else because everyone knows that it isn't hard to get fed with Yi.

Show me a fed KhaZix who's laughing along with everyone in the all chat and I'll give you all the honor in the world.

Show me a jungle Yi who's spamming "ez" in the all chat and I report you for being an unskilled player.

Sounds like you just got rekt by a Yi. item 3031

Jefftiffy1 votes

Erm I play Yi and play against Yi. He is unfair and unfun to play against. And in any form of solo queue or duo queue he wrecks teams. There is a problem with Yi.

Ø Flex3 votes

He is unfair and unfun to play against yet you play him. So he should only be nerfed if he is on the other team right? Otherwise he is balanced.

Cale0171 votes

I believe what he was saying was that he's tried out Yi to get a feel for what he does and how in his current state, not necessarily that he mains him.

Because maining him would make big George mad, and you wouldn't like big George when he gets mad.

Is stupid making farm junglers better than gank junglers, it just shouldnt happen

poopoo peepee1 votes

Play Jax, Rammus, Teemo, Pantheon, or Quinn. Good job, you best Yi. Cc him during meditate, or be sure you can dodge or block his autos.

I believe brand also does well.

Quacker21 votes

Defeating a fed yi is very possible, but it requires a full team effort in most cases. When a full out team fight commences someone has to cc him immediately and let the rest of the team MUST capitalize. When a yi is defeated, the enemy team loses a lot of power. Having a yi jungler provides dangerous damage output at the cost of losing a tank and cc that most other junglers can provide. Make it the supports job to exhaust him. Save that stun. Yi is a monster if the team cannot work together, but a monster if you let him solo duel your team without cooperation.
