To everyone saying "I stopped playing 'X' because they kept getting nerfed"

WoonStruck··92 votes·6,051 views

Is having an intrinsic advantage really the only reason you were playing them?

I've played Vlad, Skarner, Irelia, Maokai, Nasus, Cho, Jax, Leona, Nocturne, Olaf, Nunu, Taric, and Zac all through periods where they were considered garbage and managed to make people whine that they're OP no-skill champs. I won much more than I lost in most cases.

In a large majority of cases, your champion is not being gutted. They're being made reasonable.

If you don't think they're worth picking, you're simply on the FotM bandwagon.

Thanks for getting off.

Mostly in response to the people whining about the completely reasonable Ekko changes.

Srsly tho, props to you Azir/Kalista mains still playing them.

Masala Chai16 votes

I've probably been reported at least 8 times for picking Kalista. Feels nice to be appreciated.

ChaosThief3 votes

I mean, reporting a player for picking a champion doesn't do anything, so keep on playing. They can't stop you~

Spaceman5pff2 votes

These days, I usually only hop on League if I REALLY want to play a specific champion.

When people ban my pick, or someone else locks it, I just dodge and move on to a new activity.

I only play norms, nowadays, anyway. Not like I am hurting anybody. All of my competitive spirit has left this game for overwatch :P

TotalJerk8 votes

Your champion is literally broken. I'd rather you take AP Zed bot than Kalista.

Glory ln Death2 votes

As a support Sion main, Kalizta is one of my favorite adcs to lane with.

No props to us Taliyah players and AP ekko mid players that you see once every 40 games or so?

Ekko being nerfed is no suprise. Ppl get pissed at nerfs becuz they no longer have the advantage and dont like losing.

I'm an Ekko main and I like the changes

Big Lincoln15 votes

I don't play half the champs I used to because they keep getting reworked and made exponentially less fun

WoonStruck14 votes

I'm still crying for Taric.

Visual update was welcome, but he's just not fun anymore. As or against.

Big Lincoln8 votes

finally someone who agrees with me

tired of getting shouted down by riot circlejerkers because i don't think taric is fun

MrWasjig5 votes

It's worth remembering that ultimately "fun" is subjective, and people might be disagreeing for a myriad of reasons beyond just "riot circlejerkers".

Afterall I enjoyed old Taric for his reliability, which was very much killed with his rework. I didn't find his kit particularly exciting, or even fun. But his reliability did.

The rework was a mixed bag for me but I'm largely with Woon, visual upgrade was great, gameplay on the other hand...eeeehhhhh (unsure noises)

l Helios l13 votes

See I don't feel that. What was fun about old Taric if you went a support build? You never really did anything beyond point and click E and Q. I find it hard to reason that new Taric is less fun than that.

WoonStruck11 votes

Taric was much more aggressive than that.

Max R>W>Q>E.

If they got in range of E, it was E->auto->W->auto->Q->auto->W->auto.

If they couldn't get away before your E was up again, you pop R and start the combo over again.

He was basically a tank Lucian. He was one of the few supports that could 1v1 non-support champs, especially ADC.

Everyone that didn't like the old Taric didn't know what his passive was, or that your Q should generally only be used as a self-heal to enable aggressive play-patterns. It was garbage when used on anyone else.

item 2045 item 3190 item 3025 item 3065 item 3047 item 3068

His W increased the damage his team did to targets, along with being a burst itself, same with his ult. His passive combined with that made it so he did quite a substantial amount, as well as being a walking aura-buff/debuff tank.

New Taric's Q is literally worthless. CDs are way too long. Mana costs obscene. Bonus attackspeed in between casts feels way worse than his old passive.

Everyone that didn't like the old Taric didn't know what his passive was

Which one? ;p

Vlädïmïr4 votes

any of them before the current one probably

Sherogarth7 votes

Too bad that his new v-neck was much more important for Riot than feelings of people that loved old Taric.

Dealth4 votes

People will say that old sion/poppy/taric/fiora were better than their reworks because they want to be a special snowflake. Just let them think that.

WoonStruck4 votes

Taric and Karma were really the only two anyone can make that claim about.

They weren't blatant gameplay or theme issues like any of the other reworks. They just weren't popular because people didn't find their kits straightforward.

The reworks essentially completely changed them and made them straightforward champions. Its hard to say that either is better or worse considering they're completely different.

For you to suggest they are definitely better would be a blatant lie.

Dealth6 votes

New Taric is way better by gameplay standards. Every part of his kit is much more interactive with ways to maximize and counter play for the enemy. His ult is very cool too. Much better than the point-and-click stat-booster champion he was before.

"I am not the man I once was" - Taric

Shield of Targon2 votes

I mained Taric before the rework, (still one of my favorite champions) and I agree with all this: the rework was needed, he didn't really fit in in 2016. Still, sometimes I miss the Gem Knight. He was wonky and ridiculous but he was fun to play. The new one actually takes skill.

Looks to Azir with shame.

I... have some games to play. I'll be right back.

500000000000000018 votes

Azir is nerfed based on people who already mastered him.

LazyW0lf2 votes

I feel like this is the only downside to very high skillcap champions. They get abused at high level play but then seem underpowered at low level. I really enjoyed Kalista before she became so useless.

Spicy Rice11 votes

There are certain cases where the champion is legitimately made terrible.

E.X Kassadin post re-work and then after they nerfed his w and ult.

Talon after they removed the silence and placed the useless "slow" on his e

etc

WoonStruck4 votes

I said in the large majority of cases they're not gutted.

I included them basically.

As a side note, high MMR talon mains said it hardly affected them. It stopped them from abusing mages in an unfair way, but he could still do his job. I specifically watched streams to see their input.

Kosm1K2 votes

I do believe that talon needed that silence removal, it was a bit overboard. I'm a talon main, and I haven't stopped playing him since release. Talons never really had any tough times like others, just wish the E change was renamed and have it give an interrupt. Hard to duel champs like Katarina now

YumaS2Astral18 votes

Talon was never made terrible

Kassadin was, however, and it took months of buffs in order to make him playable again.

Other examples of gutted champions include Kalista and Azir

In the case of Azir, you are only really going to find a decent amount of sucess if you are a hardcore Azir main which know every trick about him and completely mastered him, and even then you are probably better off playing another champion.

In the case of Kalista, she is just so clunky and bugged that it is not worth playing her.

Balisan10 votes

If you think that his ability to silence champions combined with the rest of his kit created a healthy gameplay pattern, I don't know what to say to you.

but they can't nerf my love for Ashe.

And the buffs keep coming. Jayce

bill848 votes

As someone who played Jayce before this shit... sigh.

Oelyk2 votes

I partially agree with you... I worried about nerfs, but I doubt it will be anything drastic that hell be weaker than when I started playing him. Im kinda enjoying the moment of glory of being a REAL Jayce main right now.

Hauling Ashe5 votes

I hate you.

Riot logic: Ashe is played for a summer split. Nerfed four times in six patches

Jayce dominates worlds? Buff buff buff.

Whyyyy item 3070

TyrekGoldenspear10 votes

Tryndamere bribed them.

He wants Ashe to have less play time so she has more time at the house...

OHminus8 votes

Nerfs to Ashe are ultimately nerfs to Trynda, as Trynd's all about that arm strength. With Ashe at home, his right arm will no longer be stronger than his left arm for... reasons. Reduction in arm strength means he can't swing his .... sword around and thus he cannot qualify as a champion anymore, thus cutting him from his job and thus his pay

See what you did? How will those 2 feed the kids?????

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

They're the king and queen of the Avarosa.

I'm sure they can manage. ;)

Ariel the Cruel11 votes

old. . . Garen , Soraka , Yorick , Poppy , Olaf

You know, those champions that riot specifically gutted because they didn't want them to be viable at some point or another. It wasn't about them having an advantage, it was about them having a disadvantage.

You can also make a case for Irelia who has been repeatedly nerfed since release. Nothing else has really happened to her and she's still viable. So nerfs are pretty much the only reason to drop her.

Devil's advocate aside. Other than the rare specific example, I agree. Feel free to torch the bandwagon! (Imaginary pitchforks on sale for 25 RP each!)

WoonStruck8 votes

TBH, Olaf was never as bad as people claimed.

He was always a tanky hypercarry. Most people just played him horribly wrong (melee carry lol) and said he was super underpowered.

TheAceInShades7 votes

I stopped play taric because they kept pushing him away from offensive support. His old version could 1v3 fighters and assassins and it was awesome. Now he struggles to do anything. that and his heal is honestly weaker the more you rank it up.

WoonStruck7 votes

Seriously. Heal still costs 140 at rank 5 even though you've only got 1 stack healing for 80.

New Taric's a joke of design+balance choices.

He's even 'more must-pick or worthless' than before, and he's not even fun to play now. Even when he's must-pick, its only because of his W giving essentially anyone a stun and his R giving 2 seconds of team-wide immunity. His passive and Q are considered worthless.

OokamiNoSora6 votes

I wouldnt mind so much if they just nerfed malz but instead they reworked him which made him not fun for me to play anymore.

Great Muta4 votes

I tried to play Shyvanna this season without Devourer. Nothing like being useless for the first 7 mins and then knowing the game is over if 2 lanes lose.

Shifune3 votes

I don't really care for how strong/weak a champion is. The only thing that will make me stop playing a champ is if a part of their kit is changed to something I don't like. I've stopped playing Quinn, Shen, Malz, and Morde after their changes simply because I liked their old kits better. Nothing to do with champion strength.

Divewing3 votes

What can I say. Azir challenges me in a way no other champion does.

Besides I'm not going to sell my soul for elo, lol. I'd rather win playing what I enjoy, otherwise, for me at least, it feels worthless. Hell I've even stopped playing some of my champions temporarily because they've been busted in the past.

KoKoboto2 votes

I stopped playing X because Y made the champion braindead.

Where X is Quinn, Zyra and Y is Ultimate, passive & Q respectively. I love whining =^(
