any point and click spell is not instant, lulu W for instance this leaves you time to dash away or flash away or use spellshield
but ryze W is an instant snare, so if he flash+W on you you can't do anything and get snared for 0.75 sec which set up for other skillshot cc or things like that and then you die
part of the reason malz ult is also bullshit is for the same reason, malz can flash ult and then you don't have time to flash
