So I'm trying to re-learn Ekko and I just got utterly wrecked by a Pantheon

Just throwing this out there because I know there's a lot of Ekko hate out there (it's why I decided to try picking him back up instead of permabanning him), and the AA blocker passive really fucked up my trading bad. Just wanted to throw this out there since I see Pantheon played maybe once in a blue moon, so I dunno how many people have tried him as an Ekko counter.

Pantheon counters most champions in lane.

That isn't anything new.

Yeah but I hardly ever see him played, and since there's so much griping about Ekko around, I thought I'd throw it out there.

He's fairly common tbh - you should expect to see him pop up quite a bit. He's also versatile and can successfully go top mid support or jungle. You do have a skillshot ranged attack and he doesn't. He has only a small radius of danger. But it's important to get skilled with the matchup and learn to go even at worst because he can carry so hard if he gets ahead in lane.

Pantheon's early is cancerous but he's practically garbage later. Pantheon's Q point-and-click poke as well as his auto-attack shield against champions reliant on said autos (Ekko in this case) makes it incredibly frustrating.

"Frustrating" is a good word for it. It completely removed all interaction from the lane, I just danced around trying to farm and not get hit by him.

Panth is like LB - counters a lot of people hard early game and falls off if not fed and becomes useless.

You either pick one of the few champs that counters him in lane, or play safe and miss a few cs to not feed him.

Basically what you want to do is hug your turret the entire laning phase. It doesn't matter how far behind you get as long as you don't feed him. Think of it this way. If you try to trade with him and all in him you'll lose and feed him and you'll fall really far behind. If you hug your tower you'll still fall behind but this time he won't be fed. Same concept when you are fighting Quinn as a melee. Just accept the fact that you are going to be behind no matter what and stay away from him until he pushes to your turret. Don't get greedy and die to him.

Honestly I think I just forgot how strong Pantheon can be. I'm used to thinking of him as this wonky old champion with an easily avoided ultimate that blows up in team fights.

Panth counters a LOT of champs. a LOT

Play Karma against him

She has everything you need to counter him and make him regret even jumping on you.

You just farm against him and ignore him. Assuming you are going the AD build top lane (which you should....) just rush Tiamat and wave clear and outscale him. Getting the Trinity early isn't going to do anything in that lane since he is just going to block your sheen proc so just outscaling him is the better solution by delaying your power spike in order to just safely farm.
