Can someone explain to an ADC main why does the boards hate ADCs so much?

I see this kind of comments all the damn time, if not this level of absurdity then at the very least claiming that a one item adc will two shot a tank and that a game revolves solely around them like there are no dragons, rifts,Baron,no roaming mids, splitpushers, vision wars etc.

I've been maining adcs since season 1 and i have to tell you the grass is always greener on the other side, if you ask me what's the biggest factor for winning i'd say mid and jungle, roaming mid can snowball your team into victory just as much as jungle ganks, not to mention that i know we've lost when i see the enemy jungler taking 2 drakes and a herald, next is Baron and end cause he has complete control of the jungle and can gank and take objectives freely.

Why does boards act like you can't deal damage with any other class except ADCs? Do any of you check the graph section after the game, mid and top will often beat or at least come close to the damage output of an ADC with more agency and solo potential, hell i started playing Yorrick and i feel i can carry better with a champ and lane i started playing a week ago than a class i've been playing for years.

You hate a class that has the least amount of inbuilt surviveability, cc, utility and burst that also statistically usually end up having less damage than solo classes all cause there's a chance that a 6 item enemy adc will god forbid tilt the scale in a last team fight. And dont start me with "well they have a shield bot following them around"

Most supps today are velkoz, pyke, xerath, zyra and brand, most of my games my supp will leave me to roam somewhere else cause he's bored of standing around, if not that then i get a blitz/thresh that cant hit a hook or int, or you know i get lucky and get a soraka that can, wait for it, support other people in the team aswell like that fed Jax so she's not exclusive to me.

Please just tell me your honest no bs opinion of why you think adcs are op or hate them so much, just please don't go all "aDc cAn KiLl JAx iN 2 AuToS" on me

Personally just because they get the highest burst, on the easiest to land/spam/manage abilities: autos.

Most of them also do have mobility (a lot more than some mages), and a lot of them have CC.

An autoattack is a point and click, low cooldown, no mana ability that delivers undodgeable high burst itemizing against which is often useless.

For such an easy to use ability, it's too powerful imo, even if it does take time to scale.

But that's the same for everyone and you will only find that kind of hate towards adcs on the NA Gameplay Boards, not even Hashinshin hates adcs as much as the Gameplay Boards does.

Edit: I think that why it happens is what OP is talking about.

See and i could go right back at you and say that i'd rather have abilities and cc like Ahri that give me clear windows of opportunity to attack without getting killed not to mention how much safer it feels to dump all your abilities in half a second and get out of the danger zone while your cds come back, on the other hand as an adc i have to stick to a target and if i have no one to peel for me in front that usually means i eat a huge burst and die or get turned on and die.

If you want abilities like ahri, play ahri. If you wonder why I don't hate ahri as much as I hate ADCs it goes back to my points.

Ahri's main damage sources are dodgeable and outplayable. ADC autoattacks are not.

I love how people love to argue about dodgeable and undodgeable damage sources making it out to be that hitting a skillshot requires 250 IQ and a spotter at your side, while in reality if you literally hit one of your abilities that is a CC the rest of the kit is as undodgeable (unless you have QSS) as an auto attack.

For instance Ahri needs to land just one skillshot to make the rest of her kit "undodgeable" not to mention her R and W are already targeted abilities, also things like Mazlahar and Tf exist with point and click abilities

Critmaster Garen5 votes

because most of them are designed around kits without counterplay. so when theyre strong, you usually just have no way to approach them in a fight.

riot takes exceptional care that every melee carry, or every melee champion theyre reworking has elements of unreliability in his kit that his entire playstile revolves around. be that mechanics like skillshots (illaois tentacles, aatrox crit zones...), large cooldown windows to abuse in which these champions pose very little threat, or even mechanics like fioras vitals that can be outpositioned by their opponent to deny her access to her largest steroid.

at the same time, ranged carries usually just get all their shit for free. they dont have to fulfull any special conditions to access their steroids, that alter their playstile. there is no way to outplay a tristana q, w, or r. there is no way to outplay any ability in vaynes kit but the wall stun on her e, which is attached to a direct target displacement that cant be outplayed. her w is literally just attached to her auto attacks in a way that there is no way to outplay it like you can potentially outplay fioras passive. she just gets it.

if vayne didnt have her w, her playstile would be exactly the same as it is now. she would just attack anything she can safely attack infront of her. if fiora didnt have her passive, she would play entirely different. even MasterYi loses the entire bonus of his e when its on cooldown, which gives him a clear window of weakness.

even when marksmen have skillshots or some unreliable elements in their kits, their impact is so microscopic that they dont really have to rely on them to carry. like tristanas bomb is the only ability in her kit that you can somehwat outplay but makes like 2% of her damage next to her auto attacks.

mobility in melee champion kits when they have it also tends to be a lot more restricted for some reason.

vaynes q, tristanas w, caitlyns e, kallistas passive, lucians e all dont have conditions attached to them when and where to use it. while mobility in melee champions kits usually always require an allied or enemy unit as a target and is much less versatile.

basically the problem with marksmen kits is reliability.

there are two marksmen who actually have elements of unreliability in their kits that they depend on.

Ezreal relies on repeatedly hitting skillshots to be able to carry, which can be outplayed. he relies much less on just stacking stats onto basic attacks. Draven relies on catching axes and can be outplayed by putting enough pressure on him to drop them

they have other issues to make up for it though. dravens passive is the most feast of famine garbage mechanic in league, and ezreals q proccing on hit effects makes him the king of item abuse.

Why do boards hate adc? Well i cant speak since boards encompasses a lot of different people. However i can give you some insight as to why people hate on general adc.

When adcs are strong (close to an op way lets say), they feel oppressive because well, you cant play around their strength. You cant evade their aa. They only counterplay they have, when they reach their late game status, is kill them before they kill you or stay out of their range. Both of them are hardly counter options.

Then its their innate trait as ticking bombs. No matter how much you keep them down, they will eventually reach their late game, where they outscale most champs. Another reason, although this one is as far as i know exclusive to me, is my hatred towards their playstyle and class as a whole. For a class that requires peel they function extremely well even solo (with the exception when facing assassins).

Lets take my former main, xerath. Xerath is, compared to the average adc, just as squishy and a tiny little bit more utility. Now you are about to say that xerath has more range and aoe. And you are right. However, xerath pays said range a lot. Hell im pretty sure his range actually hurts him. He loses reliability and mobility for said range. As the game progress it becomes increasingly more difficult to hit the opponents (solo ofc) because unlike movement speed, xerath cant lower the delays he has. I still tremble when i remember laning vs good players. Not because they outskilled me or outwitted me. But because they could sidestep my spells. There was absolutely nothing i could do. This leads to what im trying to say. Xerath lacks the late game of an adc, yet he needs his team more than an adc will ever need. An adc doesnt need to keep the enemy stunned like xerath.

Sir Saltarin5 votes

If Xerath needed his team more than an ADC he wouldn't be played on a solo lane and for how you talk about him it seems that Xerath is a terrible champ when he's average, not weak by any means.

I dont want xerath to go duo lane (although based on his kit, he should). I just said relatively to adc he requires just as much team presence yet he lacks their late game.

And you are right he is average, not weak. But you do have to put an extreme effort to make him work. Said rewards are also extremely low compared to other champs.

I agree with you in that, and while I've never been a Xerath player I am (was) a Ziggs player and I know how little rewarding artillery mages can be in comparition to what you have in front.

But when thinking about it I compare Ziggs to the other midlaners that are the ones that compete with him on the same lane.

I dont want xerath to go duo lane (although based on his kit, he should). I just said relatively to adc he requires just as much team presence yet he lacks their late game.

You know why Xerath is played with a fairly succes as a supp? Because him alone can bully the enemy adc and supp for how strong his early game poke is. So, you cant ignore in the equation how strong his poke is while taking in count that adcs are stronger than him on lategame.

Basically because it feels that for how you talk about him he doesn't have anything that makes him good, and reallity isn't like that.

And I want to point out that Xerath is average but more near being weak than strong imo, it wouldn't be fair imo to say otherwise.

hhaavviikk3 votes

no counterplay for adc's due to the right clicking nature and from the past they easily complained about being ''weak'' when they aren't, remember the ''adc's 2k18'' meme? yeah adc's complaining that they couldn't 1 vs 1 anyone come mid game and that mages and bruisers were killing them when they were lvl 11, oh the horror!

GigglesO1 votes

The counterplay used to be build armor. If you get to them you win. They kite you and they win.

Now it’s did I jump on top of them and instantly kill them? Yes, I win, no, they win.

They are extremely stat check champs.

that was never the counter, the only counter to an ADC is to instantly kill them with an assassin otherwise they kill you rapidly with right clicks that can't be avoided or countered

DoyleMVP2 votes

Nobody likes ADCs because the extent of their skill revolves around avoiding being killed, and that usually comes at the expense of the rest of their team.

Nobody likes a class that gets 99% of their damage from unavoidable right-click damage.

Xerisiel1 votes

My main is an assassin so I really hate the new phatom dancer. But if im hypercarrying and have ult I can still probably kill them. Adcs also flame a lot(eve supp main).

Chembaron Yamada1 votes

People hate them because they deal damage when they got items in their pockets.

I play every role, mostly top and jungle tho. And I don't hate ADCs. They have a fairly weak early game and honestly, ADC is the most stressful role for me by far.

If I play a top laner and I am fed, then I simply relax. I am tanky and destroy enemies, oftenly even in 1v3 scenarios. Jungle is the same deal. But if I play ADC and I am fed? I get extremely paranoid. Because I know everyone on the enemy team has the single goal to kill me and often enough there are quite some champions on the enemy team specialised in exactly that task. Kill me. Assassins, divers, skirmishers, burst mages..... They all have the potential to easily kill me if I am not extremely careful about my positioning or my team does not properly peel for me.

Often enough saw it from the other side of the spectrum, too. I enjoy playing divers. And I had quite some games in which the enemy ADC was fed. It didn't matter, since the enemy team failed at protecting him. I just went in and killed that ADC, over and over and over again.

ADCs are quite vulnerable in the early game and entirely depend on their team to properly protect them later. In my opinion, they have the least agency of every role. If your team doesn't have your back, then you will get deleted by a champion which was built to kill you, even if you are fed.

HeeroTX2 votes

Pretty much this.

The boards (and non-adc mains) hate ADCs for the same reason most players hate playing supports. Because an ADC with a GOOD team is oppressive, and an ADC with a bad team (in terms of teamwork) gets wrecked. And at the end of the day, too many people don't want to PLAY AS A TEAM. If I can't be a solo god of the rift, then screw everyone. And it sucks that my team's artillery got destroyed because none of us could be bothered to protect them, and now we're getting penta'd by the enemy artillery because two of their guys were willing to sacrifice themselves while we were trying to style on their jungler.

Really, 90% of the problems with league can be summed up as: a well coordinated team is really strong, and most players don't want to bother working together at ALL let alone in a well coordinated fashion.

Cause there's a guy unironically in that thread trying to convince me that an adc can stand in place and kill fiora, and he is not joking

Z3Sleeper1 votes

Because the entire game balance revolves around ADC.

Tanks able to tank ADC damage and kill them? Tank meta. Assassins able to decimate ADCs with ease despite everyone trying to save them? Assassin meta. Divers/Juggernauts able to completely ignore everyone trying to peel the ADC and kill them anyway? Diver/Jugg meta. Support items overbuffed af? Peel the ADC meta. ADCs are strong? Also peel the ADC meta.

Want to know what a meta that doesn't involve an ADC looks like? It's when a champion or class can fulfill the purposes of an ADC (seige and/or DPS and viability in a duo lane).

In practice: Karthus Cassiopeia Ziggs Mordekaiser being disgusting and a whole bunch of Riot and the playerbase saying "nvm this is worse let's just go back to ADCs being meta."

So yeah, at its core League is an ADC centric game. Any attempts to remove ADC from the equation end in imbalanced clusterfuck failure.

For reference I play everything apart from jungle because it's boring as hell. I don't hate ADCs (I actually enjoy playing them), however there are reasons why I dislike the role.

One of them being how easily they can change the game to revolve around them.
