Annoying Doesn't Always Mean Broken

I think when it comes down to it, we call champions "broken", "overpowered", or "overloaded" because they're so annoying to fight. Just because a champion is annoying, doesn't mean they're actually powerful, but there is always the possibility of that. Even if a champion isn't overpowered or anything, being unfun to fight is just as big a problem. People play this game for fun, right? It's hard to have fun when fighting an annoying champion, like for me I have to say that Yasuo, Caitlyn, and Vayne are all very annoying champions to fight. And while I tend not to think of the champions as overpowered, I think they should have changes to be less annoying for those fighting them. Even if it's fun or flashy or $LCSBIGPLAYS$ for one person, doesn't mean it's fun for the other.

What I'm trying to get at is that the community should know when a champion is actually broken, or if they're just annoying. And for Riot too, so they know that they don't necessarily have to nerf a champion that's annoying, but change their kit to be less annoying through mini-reworks like Shyvana and Alistar. (OK, maybe Shyv was a bad example of being less annoying, but the point still stands)

actually annoying = broken.

broken isn't overpowered, don't confuse them. Broken is however, a designation for a kit issue that causes problems for game health. Being incredibly annoying to face and removing agency is a health issue for the game. if I can't either counterbuild or counterplay you, without being much much better than you, then there is a a kit issue.

There is actually a difference between broken, OP, and annoying.

Singed is Annoying. He proxies, he is sliperry, and he is fast as fuck. But you can outplay him and he gets stat checked by many champions.

Cammile is (or was prior to the nerfs) OP. She has an overloaded kit and overtuned numbers. It's hard to outplay her and in most cases, even if she messes up, she can beat you through stat checks.

Aatrox, Azir, and Kalista are Broken. Their kits can never be un-gutted or they become extremely overbearing and opressive, each of them for different reasons.

Changing a champion just for being annoying is very silly. E-V-E-R-Y champion is annoying when they are meeting there win condition and you are losing to them. Reset champions will always be annoying when they kill someone and proceed to melt the enemy team. AOE champs are going to be annoying when your team doesn't have much poke and needs to go in. High skill champs will be annoying when you are playing against a player who has spent a good amount of time practicing that champion and they surprise you after you've had bad luck with them being on your team.

Yes, any champion that meets the right win conditions can be annoying as hell. A Yorick that makes it into late game or a fed Brand will make people cry salty tears to fuel the Elo Hell generator. I'm referring more to those general annoying champions, that make you want cry yourself to sleep at any point in the game.

Well most "annoying" champions are annoying because they literally remove agency from you in lane or in fights. It becomes up to them to lose and make a mistake no matter how good you play - Yasuo, Vayne, Riven, Fiora, Lee, Ryze.....

Kled is annoying early game to his lvl 3 powerspike, but holy fuck if he is unmounted he loses 2 abilities and 1 of his abilities change, and he is slow as fuck

(seriously, being unmounted without boots is a nightmare)

Agreed totally. I think Blitzcrank is the most annoying thing ever, but he's not broken I can tell you that much

And even if he would be broken, he would be able to fix himself! Just look at his lore!

But I hope Blitz will get a rework some day. Not because he is broken, but because he is too binary. His whole combo and kit depends on his hook and while his hook is iconic and should stay, they should change a bit to make his kit less relying on it.

Yeah, Blitz should get a rework just to make his kit less binary and more interesting. And maybe define his role as a tank more and less as a support, who knows?

Blitz is super linear as of now, but his future rework will hopefully make him more flexible while making him less annoying.

My issue with "annoying champions" is that there is clearly a bias among them when it comes to balance. For instance, Azir TahmKench get trashed patch after patch after patch for being "annoying" and other champions like Yasuo Vayne Syndra will get one patch of slight nerfs with compensation buffs that make the nerfs almost meaningless.

Riot isn't very good at hiding their love for those $LCSBIGPLAYS$ champions, which doesn't make the game better for most players. Whenever Riot tries to make LCS more fun, the game itself just becomes less so.

The difference is for Yasuo sees 0 pro play.

Azir when played was 100% P/B in pro play.

Yasuo is a perfect example of a champion that people can't be bothered to play against properly. Same as old Akali gpt complained about to death and was played 0 times in pro play.

Lux is annoying the one time you get hit by that stun youre getting a wand and a laser shoved up your ass. Its not insanely broken but occasionally it will make me want to hang myself. Or maybe I'm just bad :^)

Well, I did mention what champions I find most annoying, so your opinion is welcome here! Don't worry, I despise fighting Lux too, her hitboxes and indicators are bullshit in my eyes.

I agree, those hit boxes seem deceiving. Her stun... I swear it doesn't hit me half the time. Also her ult, sometimes it hits when youre in it, sometimes it hits when youre out. I dunno just feels weird to me.

stun, snare, root idgaf it all looks the same to me. If I'm being serious though I know in stuns you're basically paralyzed and can't do anything but whats the difference between a root an a snare? They both look the same to me, you can't move but can still cast.

Root and snare are synonyms.

Lux is an older champ, so her tooltips still say snare instead of root.

Broken is when you can have a complete monkey and win easily, or when everyone is played at maximum potential, that said champion will crowd out everyone else in terms of power.

Otherwise your points are pretty fair, but I'm pretty sure Caitlyn is OP right now, not just "annoying".

I wasn't meaning to say Caitlyn wasn't OP, but I can see how it would come across that way. I was just referring the the champions that I get annoyed with, and I know sure as hell that Caitlyn is powerful right now.

It is very important that something is broken when it is not working as it really should.

Ex: Galio is a broken champion. His kit doesn't have good synergy with itself and his gameplay is very low quality against a lot of the other roster. Normally a low quality kit is fine, but it needs to work together like Garen.

Rengar is currently a broken champion because he is an assassin that can effectively build as an off tank bruiser and still one shot as an assassin while being able to be immune to CC, hence why riot is removing the immunity from him.

Ryze Riven Katarina Gangplank are annoying champions because their kits flow very well within themselves and have very good synergy and a high level of quality play. The only real argument I can see is Riven's animation canceling being broken, but riot has stated the like it on her.

Higher damage than is reasonable without being ahead is not a reason for something to be broken, it is simply that champion being grossly over powered.

Morgana she's not op, but she can miss 5000 qs and then not get punished, and then the second she lands one its like BOOM.

Lee Sin has always been annoying for me just because it feels like he does so much so well. He's everywhere in every game and I absolutely hate fighting a Lee Sin. I really wish Riot would look more at champions like him that is considered annoying by at least some of the community.

Champs that i consider broken is Veigar,Nasus,tank rengar,fizz, and syndra. Veigar and nasus bc they will just rape u for just stacking up, rengar doing 400 dmg and one shotting adc as a mobility tank assasin, fizz and syndra once gets to lv6 with only one dorans ring u can one combo anybody

I feel that Vayne's main (mayne?) issue is that she fills in a role that she shouldn't. Her kit has always been annoying, but it was annoying as a tank-shredder. Now she's basically a ranged assassin with her crit build. Riot should look into making her fit either as a tank-shredder or an assassin, not both. Even then, she has a kit no one wants to fight. She feels like her gameplay itself takes no skill, and the rest of the skill required is just general knowledge such as positioning, kiting, and choosing fights.
