Thats not his niche. His niche is being a ganking monster who has inmense mobility and damage. he has way too many resources.
That stealth thing now is more a gimmick than a niche. He doesnt even need it.
Its cool from a flavoor POV, but in practice, he is SO strong that he just doesnt need it.
Yes, it WAS his niche. Back in the day TONS OF CHAMPIONS were very strong early game monsters. Riven, Renekton, Alistar, Nidalee, this was nothing exclusive to Lee Sin at all. Over the years it has changed simply because Riot is constantly introducing new champions and nerfing the crap out of the old ones. Just about all total AD scalings have been removed (which is what really made most champions i.e Draven, Riven, etc extremely monstrous) and have instead replaced those scaling with bonus scaling (which means late game power as opposed to early game power).
Every champion now days has mobility, it's nothing exclusive to Lee Sin. He's a blind monk with a keen perception of the world around him. He's able to detect the unseen even though he's unable to see. THAT is his niche. He isn't fulfilling that and he's difficult to balance out because he's too strong in the right hands. Those are design issues. Reality vs expected fantasy.
Reality - Lee Sin is damn strong
Game Fantasy - Blind Monk with strong perception.
What he is has absolutely nothing to do with his niche. Riot removing what he is supposed to be just because he's too strong is something that makes no sense at all. You don't remove what he's supposed to be, he's an old champion.. give him a rework instead so he can be taken back to the drawing board and made closer to his expected theme.
