Why is everybody up in arms about Morde when Vlad's in a much worse state post-rylai's nerf?

WoonStruck··60 votes·3,360 views

Morde: ~53.61% win rate; 0.67% play rate.

5.5% win rate spike from patch 6.23.

50%+ average win rate at all points of the game.

Vlad: ~41.24% win rate; 0.72% play rate.

6.25% win rate dip from patch 6.23.

50%- average win rate at all points of the game.

Both are classically 'unhealthy' champions who have similar patterns in lane.

Morde shields himself the entire laning phase and he's essentially an immovable wall unless you can stat-check him to death. He'll poke you down all day with his E if you don't attempt to do so.

Vlad pokes you down during laning so its risky to retaliate, and by the time you can trade heavily, he chunks even harder and heals back for significant amounts. The only way around this is simply stat-checking him.

Really, what's the excuse for the bias? Have you forgotten that its just as bad to lane against Morde as it is to lane against Vlad any time either of them are decent?

I'm pretty sure even Malicious Metal would back me up on this one.

Because nobody likes vampires ever since Twilight ruined them. Yeah Vlad is a Hemomancer, fuck that though. He's a vampire and we all fucking know it.

Now a bunch of people (not gonna list any names) are probably gonna say ''because MM has a Fanbase that upvotes all his posts''

I personally think Mordekaiser has been shitty for so long, and ended up in this spot in a rather tragic way, people don't have any beef against him.

Now do we remember the amount of Vlad QQ on the boards near the MYMU? Yeah, people don't like Vlad so he doesn't get any love from the boards.

Just to be clear, I don't mind Vlad at all myself, and liked laning against him because it was a challenge to face him when he was strong, but it never felt like I couldn't do anything against him (Unless he got ahead because of a gank, that was pretty painful for me as GP :P)

WoonStruck6 votes

Vlad's been shitty for just about as long as Morde. Both had their moments in the limelight, and both were heavily nerfed at several points. They both hovered around 47% before their rework. Both had reworks that made them a bit over-tuned, and both were very heavily nerfed after.

Sahn Uzal6 votes

Sounds accurate, even though The juggernaut update was in late season 5, while the MYMU was Mid Season 6. As I already said, a lot of people on the boards seem to dislike Vlad, so posts asking for Vlad Love are more likely to get downvoted, sadly...

RocketRelm1 votes

I think a large portion of it is because when Vlad got into the spotlight during the MYMU, he got to play the way Vlad players enjoyed, and it was a true resurgence.

When Mordekaiser got his, it was being slotted into this awkward Duo bot lane ADC role that only worked because of overbearing numbers, and this was not enjoyable for anybody, especially the mordekaiser mains.

Aka: Mordekaiser players were getting blueballed even when their champion was OP.

WoonStruck1 votes

Idk. Vlad being built as a tank was an entirely different experience than what Vlad players were used to. It wasn't exactly enjoyable.

Once they reverted the passive, nerfed HP ratios, and buffed AP ratios, that's when Vlad players actually started enjoying Vlad again.

Because it is true. That, and for a few other people and a few other things(yas qq). Boards are circlejerky, that's what happens. You manipulate them enough, they follow you blindly

people don't have any beef against him.

I do. I have PTSD from when I first played against him. E spam, so much E spam...

Rip pre 5.16 Morde and his 250 base damage E

There's nothing inaccurate about that though?

The majority of mordekaiser related gameplay threads come from him. I mean there's nothing wrong with posting about a champion you enjoy playing and for the most part he makes well thought out posts with good arguments but does anyone actually believe anybody else would be upvoted for implying people should not voice their opinion about a champion's lore or repeatedly posting about the state of one champion asking for buffs? Or for saying "gut my champion and I'm quitting"? No.

Some people outright upvote anything he says regardless of content and I'm sure he's aware of that as well.

Akali is SO HOT14 votes

There's a big Morde circlejerk over here that's why.

HazyCloud75 votes

It's kind of like when edge of night was revealed and suddenly the entire board was full of karthus mains for like a week. Except in Mordekaiser's case its 24/7, 0.8% pick rate and somehow the entire board worships the champion.

Malicious Metal3 votes

You haven't been here when 5.16 hit, right?

HazyCloud71 votes

Yup, that's correct. Why do you ask?

Malicious Metal4 votes

Because that's the reason Morde's kinda well-liked on the boards.

The Juggernaut patch and the hell he's been through as a champ did make many people sympathize with him as a champion. Hell, he only got playable after 6.2 after Riot finally addressed the issue of him being absolutely trash in a solo lane.

HazyCloud71 votes

I'm sure that plays a role in why the boards are sympathetic towards Morde but I think you underestimate your influence as well. Not that its your fault but there are people that upvote whatever you post regardless of content and downvote people expressing a different opinion. Exhibit A, look at my post above. Downvoted for asking someone to elaborate, lol. That aatrox support rework thread is another decent example, the content of the post was very well thought out and genuine but had someone else posted it they'd be bombarded with comments like "stop shit posting"

Thanks for the insight on Morde's history.

Ahristocats8 votes

where do you see 53% win rate on morde?

and vlad isn't unhealthy

WoonStruck6 votes

Hence why I said 'unhealthy'. I don't think either are all that unhealthy. There's nothing wrong with stat-check champions (especially when its windowed like Morde/Vlad) in a game.

If you engage on Vlad after he uses empowered Q, he's going to do very little if you disengage before its back up.

If you pressure Morde before he stacks up his shield and gets a push going, you win.

Ahristocats9 votes

Morde in lane is an issue and it's not because of the shield

Vlad is healthy because he has a window of power, his Q is garbage if it isn't stacked and it takes ages to stack it in lane, his base ms and hp also makes it so you win in 1v1 and bully him, people just don't know this

Morde doesn't have 53% win rate period, his win rate dropped to 46% and 48% above plat, with a low pick rate that makes him only played by his mains

Ruin Lance7 votes

because boards loves to circlejerk. and tons of people on boards are mordekaiser mains for some reason.

Axxuka6 votes

Mordekaiser actually got buffed from that Rylai nerf. His weakness was mostly getting kited by Mages from the mid lane (no problems with that in melee)... and guess what, the main kiting tool, Rylai, is nerfed.

Morde complainers don't think far ahead lol.

KoKoboto6 votes

because MM has a fanbase that upvoets all his posts

Vladimir isn't as popular on the boards and so no one talks about him I guess

I main Vlad and he definitively needs help since the Rylais nerf. He needs the nerfs he received reverted at the very least.

And whenever someone claims to be a "mastery 7 blabla" and "x champ main" i look at their profile and they either never played the champ at all or post from a smurf account or it is their 10th mostp layed champ. Internet is full of liars. Though there are cases like me who have 100+ games and similiar mastery points on 3 or 4 champs and can'T really say they have a main at all.

I'm an actual Vlad main though. He's needed buffs for half a year now but Riot would just rather nerf him because the pros played him for his safety.

the boards have a morde boner for no good reason

Ralanr1 votes

Personally I dislike fighting Vlad because I don't play champions with enough damage to punish him for using his Q.

But yeah, he's pretty shit right now.

WoonStruck2 votes

Sion does enough damage to punish his Q. Gnar does enough damage to punish his Q. Don't you play them?

Ralanr2 votes

I don't play Gnar. And Sion's Q is easy to dodge (and has a shorter range than Vladimir's Q) with the time it takes to even get a half charge knock up.

Plus I don't have AD outside of my runes.

WoonStruck2 votes

Actually, try it some time. Vlad's Q has shorter range than Sion's.

If you Q in his direction as he starts to move forward, you almost automatically hit it. Follow up with E auto auto and back away after your W pops. If Q's gunna miss, just release early for more damage than he can heal in 20 seconds before 9.

I always have trouble vs Q max Sions unless they're really bad at spacing Q.

Ralanr1 votes

Guess I should since poke builds mean nothing to the sustainomancer.

WoonStruck2 votes

Q chunks much harder, and you don't need to buy AD for it, though it easily snowballs out of his control if you do it right with AD (the long swords for sterak's or titanic would be the best contenders, most likely).

I start boots/pots and its still a struggle to work around vs a Sion with good timing/spacing. R>Q>W>E vs Vlad is the best way to do it, pretty sure.

Ralanr1 votes

I'll have to try it. It's been a while since I maxed Q in lane.

ShaolinToilet2 votes

Sion q is one of the easiest and most satisfying skillshot for me to hit

Sahn Uzal2 votes

if I can solo kill a Vlad as GP with a Dorans Ring and Ignite, you can punish him for using his Q as Sion, trust me for that one :p

Ralanr1 votes

I have no doubt my Q will hurt him. I doubt he's not smart enough to just pool away from it.

Sahn Uzal2 votes

Pool has along CD and a massive health cost (it's like 20% current health!) if Vlad's high HP, using his pool won't win that trade for him, unless you can follow the CC up with more damage

Ralanr1 votes

Again I'll have to test it. I'm still not believing that Vlad's Q is a shorter range than Sion's Q.

Sahn Uzal2 votes

The thing I'm pointing out is that if you're forcing Vlad to use his pool every time you charge your Q he's wasting a fucking lot of health to do so, which you can use to your advantage. Also, you could consider E max

WoonStruck2 votes

If you force him to pool from full health, that's your advantage, and then its down for nearly 30 seconds.
