SO MANY THRESHES

Admit it, Thresh is over picked. He brings TOO much to the table as a support. Morgana's base damages have been nerfed, preventing a support Morg with no AP from soloing the ADC. Annie's autoattack range has been drastically reduced to prevent her from abusing duo lane poke. Janna's team utility has been reduced. Now let's look at the nerf history on Thresh. #What has been done

  • AS ratio on autoattack windup nerf, BECAUSE A SUPPORT IS TOTALLY GOING TO BUILD TONS OF IT.

#What should have been done

  • MUCH worse autoattack windup at lvl 1
  • Attack speed per level down
  • AS ratio on autoattack windup buffed to 200%, he has no projectile and has a very low range, ADC Thresh needs this to even conceive to orbwalk and the problem is support Thresh not ADC.

#What has been done

  • AP ratios nerfed, because support Thresh is going to be building lots of it for sure
  • only one wall of the box can deal damage

#What should have been done

  • NO MORE AP IN SOULS, MR instead
  • Box slow goes down by a fourth of its value
  • Buffed AP ratios, no need to nerf AP Thresh when the target is support Thresh
  • No restrictions on wall procs, same person hitting several walls gets slow duration refreshed.
  • No more flat CDR upon hitting Q.

You are forgetting a few nerfs to him throughout season 4. His range was nerfed, the removed his ability to Q - Flash, and his shield was changed to only 1 person. He isn't really op, just played quite a lot because he has such a good kit. If you're skilled with him, he's slightly above average. If you're not, he's way below average. He's like Lee Sin, except completely utility based and relies heavily on teammates to follow up.

unless they're an AD thresh, 3000 damage on one auto is pretty intense

Thresh is fine as he is. He is only picked because he has a lot to offer in his kit and if played well, is incredible. If you don't play him well, he isn't that good. Before all his nerfs you could suck with him and STILL dominate with him.

All those nerfs for some reason targeted OTHER roles than support

Not really. All his nerfs were to remove his dominance as a support champion. These nerfs indirectly removed his ability to play more "troll" roles as AD or AP, which was never really an intended role for him, so the nerfs were fine. Annie AA range got nerfed for similar reasons as Thresh. It was free oppressive harass that had little to no answer to besides all in or back off. Thresh's AA is ever stronger then Annie because of the E passive, so a nerf makes sense. Morgana nerfs were warranted as well because of how dominant she was. No support should have the ability to 100-0 w/o AP, especially someone who is incredibly safe like Morgana. Annie can possibly do it at 6, but her engage is so telegraphed that you know it is coming.

Your no more AP and MR instead is a bad suggestion. It will just make thresh even MORE picked then he is now. Also the main reason thresh is picked imo is because he is so interactive compared to other champions. As thresh you can make a lot of plays that feel very rewarding when you pull them off. He is also strong in lane so he can fight as well. Other top tier supports such as Morgana and Janna are more about disengage, which make them somewhat boring to play in lane. Annie and Nautilus can do okay, but if they get caught, its over.

I know they were intended to hit support Thresh, but better nerfs could have been done to him without hitting secondary builds so hard( and don't call them "troll" please). Also MR instead of AP would finally give him a clear identity: remove his base resistances, give him scaling ones, make his Q's stun last less at lower ranks, and you have a timebomb supp. Boom, not a "jack of all trades" anymore.

Thresh is actually "balanced" according to nerfplz website. It is personal opinion but others ranked higher: Janna, naut, blitz, soraka, sona, leona, lulu, morg, brand, and many others. Thresh is lower than all of those (Although I personally do not agree the guy is higher ranked so whatever)

Something to keep in mind, Thresh is a lot more common and more popular. Lower pick rate with higher win rate generally indicates specialization (Janna). High pick rate with average win rate is a generally indicates reasonable balance.

He still takes the place of too many others

Fact is, Thresh has dominated the support pool since his release, if any other support was picked as much as him they would receive nerfs the next patch The one excuse people have for him is "his winrates are low" but that is really just because he is the goto "i don't play support" support champion what everyone uses

I can expect Janna nerfs coming soon as she is picking up a lot of popularity

they already did nerf her because she made chasing too easy...yet all she did was give a 30 or 40 unit movespeed boost max

if anything, i'd like it to be where some supports can't make it where you just die

like morgana for instance, the highest lockdown at a range Q blitzcrank lands one Q and crowd controls you til you die

heck, I play chogath as a support because he has crowd control and damage at a range while being tanky
