Crazy Garen buff idea: give him the Alistar treatment and swap his main passive and W passive

TotalJerk··1 votes·799 views

This would allow Garen the option of Maxing W to survive matchups where he can get poked out really hard and can't really get in range for a Q>E trade anyway. Besides, W passive already doesn't scale with rank, so it might as well be on the P slot.

EDIT: To be clear it would be a nerfed version of his passive. He isn't going to be healing 2% max HP per second at level 9.

Garen got overbuffed with his last buff anyway.

I want that reverted. I think it's a bad way to buff him considering the fact that he already has strong Black Cleaver Synergy and true damage. Garen isn't supposed to be a tank shredder. It just makes life miserable for the other side in certain matchups while not addressing his crippling weaknesses in others.

And Darius being the same with 'passive' Armor shred on top of defaulting to Black Cleaver and being able to Penta-dunk a team or net a triple kill like it is nothing with little in forms of actual weaknesses outside of an enemy team focusing on him and blasting him?

If most champions get scummy kits then at this rate, the rest of the batch need to get scummy abilities to make them just as threatening as the ones who just dominate so many game mode types with oppressive power housing on what they do.

I just fucking hate how now that his passive does physical damage he can basically get full cleaver stacks with a single auto attack.

Above 50% with 7% playratio is way too much for a champion who has literally the lowest interplay in the game.

he peaks out at 55% winrate for people with a lot of games on him. new garen players only win around 45% of the time. thats normal for most champions.

power wise that buff balanced him pefectly. you cant put a champion into a more ideal spot.

Zero Skill Tank1 votes

Power-wise, maybe. But right spots for different kits are at different power levels. Kalista is at right spot too. There is absolutely no reason for a champion with playstyle as bad as Garen to have power level warranting that he is a good pick in as many as 7% games.

If Garen is to be a common sight on the rift, he needs proper fixes, not a buff that further reduces his interplay.

kalista is an absolute menace in pro play when shes strong.

garen is mostly useless in pro play and decent in solo que (at least after the buff). he has a balanced kit with clear strengths and weaknesses. i dont know if youre just salty because you got smashed by a garen recently, but objectively hes fine.

like the playrate really isnt an indicator for anything here. if it were a highly mechanical champion, it would be different.

No, I actually just easily won a game against a Garen. And even a win against champion so one-dimensional doesn't feel good.

You spell "extremely boring both for his teammates and enemies" in a weird way.

Of course it is. The more Garen is played, the less fun the game becomes. I would be fine with him if the buff added anything to him to play around for his teammates/enemies. Make his Q a tiny dash, so that he gains power, but you can also cancel it. Whatever. But last buff just allows him to ignore more armor, further reducing his gameplay to "don't let him run at your buddies"/"enable him to run at enemies".

everythign you just said there is nothing other than subjective.

Garen has the least interplay in the game. Multiplayer games with more interplay are more fun. Both statements are facts.

idk I think huge damage reduction + passive healing would be a little op ?

i think there are more important issues than this with his sustain. namely that he has no means of activating it in combat.

If he's maxing W though he loses out on the damage of maxing E and the mobility of maxing Q. So he does have to pay for it. Plus his passive still has to trigger out of combat.

That would be absolutely broken on Garen, and besides that just makes it a Mundo passive.

Big Lincoln1 votes

not really, his biggest flaw is that he has no in-fight sustain. it's already been a discussion that most garen players I've talked to would be happy to see some nerfs to his late game OOC healing if it meant they had a way to activate it without leaving their team.

i particularly like critmaster garen's idea for it where the passive was changed to %missing HP, and he'd build up a resource while hitting enemies with ticks of his spin, and it'd heal him afterwards for up to 15% missing health

Back when he had his Tenacity he could combine it with his Q to get in and out of fights to use his passive. I do agree that his lategame passive is ridiculous, though.

Have to agree on this detail, Garen is already in a prime state and whenever i see people fuss about a champion like Garen, i get quite pissed off because plenty of other champions deserve more focus on ways to make them not as completely out ruined by currently default grabbed champions because of overloaded kits. Some of these champions include:

Tristana , Because she is great at carrying a game ridiculously crazy in the late game phase, but so many other champions can do that in early game too and be just as monstrous in late game on ends like Jinx , Vayne, Draven and two of them have global ultm shots, which also one of them has a retarded rush a target, easily CC disrupt them then proceed to get free huge Q pokes (does not help said Draven is one of the few ADCs who can still grab item 3142 and the lethality update and lost of attack speed on the active did not do much but the out of combat move speed gave him a indirect bonus). Plus we all know why Vayne is so potent in early and late game thanks to being both a easy damage poke champion and a end game champion killer whether your glass cannon or tank.

Ahri, Though apparently her win rate is high enough to where she does not feel like she is in a bad spot, i still feel like she has the same argument as Aatrox where i don't see either enough but with Ahri her kit especially on paper feels so simple and has little to compensate for her in terms of strong synergy that so many other champions have with each of their abilities its a wonder why Ahri has not gotten tweaked with maybe low cooldowns and super mana efficiency to make up for how most of her kit is just raw damage with not much else to it side a bit of mobility that plenty of other champions have much more of and sometimes on much shorter cool downs. Course when Aatrox shows up i usually feel its them pulling a feast or famine moment where they will snowball wrek thru his opponents or just constantly feed, still feel about the same on Ahri in plenty of situations with quite a few often pick champions to me.
