The Ranked system is very unbalanced...

I understand that countless ranked posts have been made because it's fairly stupid for a ranked system, but I want to chip in and explain why I think it's stupid and to fight back against some of the common arguments for ranked being good.

"You will win some and you will lose some, but if you are good enough you will climb." This holds some truth to it but in general the fact that any luck is involved in League is just stupid. My rank means nothing if my true rank will only be determined if I play the next 200 games.

"If a Challenger smurf can climb the ranked ladder, why cant you? You're just not good enough!" This statement is flawed because the ranked system doesn't follow based on your rank but a system behind the scenes known as MMR. Sure a Challenger smurf can climb bronze 5 elo but that doesn't matter because if a bronze 5 were to try to climb to bronze 4 he would have to first be better than a bronze 4 players skill level. This is especially present in silver, where the gap in skill level between a silver 5 and a silver 1 is almost frightening. No one who is trying to get to their next rank does it to get to that skill level, they have to beat a very large amount of players ranging from 2 divisions higher MMR to 4 divisions lower MMR. The system makes no sense.

"You have recently fed in one of your games, so you don't play good yourself! You can't expect to get higher elo if you don't deserve it!" This is probably the most often I see on the boards and I would like to say that score is not all that matters. if I go 2/7/13 you have no idea what happened in that game, you may think I fed but it turns out I was a very good CC machine for my team to carry us to victory with teamwork and coordination. Score doesn't mean everything in a game and in fact I would rather be more keen on looking at someones CS and Damage done/taken rather than my score.

These are just some common misconceptions I see with those who think the ranked system is good when it does have it's clear flaws in it. Got any opinions you can feel free to comment down below I would love to see what the boards think about this.

(I DO NOT THINK THE SYSTEM IS A HORRID THING. IT IS STILL VERY ACCURATE, I JUST WANT TO STATE THE FLAWS OF IT.)

Ranked is fine. If you deserve to gain elo you will. There are so many different tools Riot has put into play that help you climb lol. Free wins in promos if you failed them once before, demotion shield after being recently promoted, the absurd number of games needed to be lost to drop from divion 5 of any given tier. The ranked system is fine.

Most people get mad at ranked because they believe they deserve a higher elo than they currently have, most of the time because they fail to see their own mistakes. They look at the macro game and see that x lane fed, but don't realize if they had played some matchup differently that would've changed. Some games are entirely out of your control, but if you're jungling you could've played around the enemy jungler better and counterganked. You could've roamed or followed your laner. You could've realized 4 people were mia on the map and not go for a greedy pick in the enemy jungler. you could've seen that baron was spawning in under a minute and not go for a dumb fight that throws your team the game. Stuff like that is why most people have problems with ranked because they fail to see their own mistakes for what they are.

Did you even read the post? pillows that protect failed promos are not even that big of a deal considering someone has made it up there twice and with all the random elements of league.

Yes I read the entire thing and still believe that you are entirely wrong. Ranked is fine, the only people that complain are people that are hard stuck low elo. :/

Your other 2 points were just completely irrelevant, and weren't valid on either side of the argument, so I decided not to spend time on them.

I'm not even hard stuck lol. I'm climbing to gold so I don't consider myself 'hard stuck' but ok. And it's already been proven by multiple high elo players that League does have a random element in it and by Riot themselves that who you are matched with has very little to do with rank and it's mainly MMR so both points are valid.

MMR is rank. The rank just is a visual representation of mmr. I think you're confused. Gold is still low elo too lol.

If I'm climbing I am not hard stuck. And to clarify a platinum player with low MMR can be in the same game as a gold 5 if MMR suggests so. MMR is seperate from rank.

this really isn't worth my time.

It's not worth your time because I did my research and know what I'm talking about and you don't.

You didn't say a thing in your argument besides just because a smurf can climb, doesn't mean everybody can which I agree with. And that score doesn't matter, which I agree with kind of. But you still are somehow failing to realize that ranked is completely fine. Sure smurfs climb, but that doesn't show how ranked is busted, it shows the opposite. They are obviously players who deserve a higher rank than they are currently playing on. If they didn't climb, and if average players that actually try to get better at the game didn't climb, I'd say you had a point. But that's not the case. People who deserve to climb climb, people who don't, or spend time complaining about it on the boards won't climb lol.

Average elo is silver 4/5. anything in gold represents a significantly higher elo than the average player.

High is relative. Just because you're higher than the normal player who sorry to say are pretty bad, doesn't mean you're high elo.

"My rank means nothing if my true rank will only be determined if I play the next 200 games" It's true that your rank doesn't mean much if you don't play a meaningful number of games.

A player that gets to Silver after playing 200 games has achieved something meaningful. A player that gets to Silver after his ten game provisional hasn't really achieved anything meaningful. This is the basic problem in the lower ranks of Bronze and Silver.
