The cheapest Sion build ever in every meaning of the word.

Intro Sion Likes cheap stuff too sometimes

This is a build i came up with recently which is meant to be as cheap as can be in every meaning of the word.

It's a bit of an unusual build and i had severe doubts myself because of it but hey it's just a normal game so let's do it anyway. and what do you know it actually functions pretty damn well

The main reason, it's cheap, really really fuckin cheap, and because of the insane synergy between the items/runes/masteries it doesn't even lose out in power vs a late game build. Bonus points for the fact that only Sion can pull this off so it's unlikely that anyone else will murder this build because of abuse.

You will reach your full build before anyone else does by a wide margin, but you will not lose out on power because of it.

The build does a couple things. Provide very generous earlygame sustain and laning power Gets decent resistances Plenty of health (cos your Sion) Tons of mixed damage and true damage Enormous shields Enormous heals Very strong sustain Plenty of team utility Very strong at power farming All this for roughly 13000 gold including starting items

Runes and Masteries Enough said, let's get into the build, let's start with runes 3 Regen quints 9x AS reds 9x Scaling armor yellows 6x Scaling cdr blue 3x Scaling mr Blue

Some scaling runes, the cdr fills out what you wont get from items, the regen quints make you really hard to get out of lane. Scaling armor because its gives more later and attackspeed reds because it helps with cs, neutrals, overal damage and with redbuff/redsmite

Masteries we go 6/6/18 although you have abit more freedom here, we get all the laning masteries, Fury and feast Savagery and secret stash Recovery and toughskin

These help us in the laning fase with piles of sustain alongside our quints and starter items Besides that we get Runic armor Perseverance Legendary Guardian Grasp of the undying

However you can change masteries as you see fit i guess but i take all the sustain since we don't get so much early resistances but we will come out on top of most trades since we can sustain 75% + of our hp pool within a minute not counting potions and it might be more depending on starting item

Then we pick our starter item best suited to deal with out lane opponent and take the following summoners summoner 11 summoner 14

Runic armor is important for this build perseverance helps throughout the game with sustain which will also be an important part of this build Grasp fits right in because it gives extra damage and sustain scaling with our health

The item build In game you are going to acquire the following items in the order that best fits the current situation, but you will need all of the following items item 3047 item 1413 item 3075 item 3107 item 3222 item 3065

I will now explain why you get these particular items, because there is a lot of synergy which might not be immediately visible on the surface

item 3047 Armor and damage reduction and we do need boots, and these boots offer good protection so we take these

item 1413 We need this for HP and magic Damage and farming capabilities, it provides us with additional true damage or a heal if smiting a camp in combat, it also helps with nuetral objective taking and we will be stealing every redbuff we can. additionally it gives us a lot of sustain by healing from monsters and getting mana, + 180% which you will see is a hidden perk. It grants us the ability to smite our enemies for damage reduction and to deal true damage. This is also the cheapest hp boost we can get as an added bonus.

item 3075 More magic damage, and a lot of armor for a low cost, It simply provides offense and defense in 1 item, the defense will help strengthen our hp, our healing and our shielding and the damage helps fight enemies and helps to powerfarm to gain gold xp and health.

item 3107 Redemption gives us a few things, 150% manaregen 50% hp regen and s bit of hp which is nice, but also the active is rally good because it deals 10% true damage and heals us and our allies, this also gives 10% heal and shield power to further boost our healing and shielding. the active scales 3 times with heal boosts

item 3222 All the items so far aren't the strangest choices this one seems a bit off until you see what it actually does for us, 40 mr which bolsters our shields heals and overall defense which is nice but it also gives 100% manaregen and now the real bonuses + 20% heal and shield power, combined with our other heal and shield boosts we will get absolutely massive heals from redemption + 90% but also + 38% to our shield. And the other passive manaregen is hp regen, so we get 100 from this and 150 from redemption gaining an extra 250% regen, but wait in the jungle we gain 180% extra mana regen and and because of this also 180% hp regen so we can boost our hp regen by 430% The active is just icing on the cake it can be used with your passive or to help an ally out, it is a very useful active.

item 3065 Magic resist and health to max out our defenses, but wait it also gives us regen and cdr, nice, and a passive which boosts received healing by another 30% remember those massive redemption and smite heals, you can now heal for 1k with redemption and depending on your hp pool anywhere from 0.7-1k from smiting a jungle camp.

Perks of the build Now all that sustain and defense is nice but what does all this accomplish, lets talk some damage first though because we won't be lacking any fo that either.

The damage aspect: Sion has decent base damage and we add to this by acquiring 4x true damage options through Redsmite, redbuff, ignite and redemption. I aint gonna lie that shit hurts you can easily deal 1.5k true damage to people like this.

There is also the Immolate aura and the thornmail for additional damage And we have grasp and base damage This is why we took some attack speed, grasp and redsmite, but also for farming and neutrals

The Farming aspect: With the jungle item plus our aoe damage and the immolate and thorns and increased attack speed farming becomes a breeze as we kill jungle camps efficiently and farming lane minions is easy too, go ahead solo drake with easy too if you want.

The Sustain aspect: We can get up to 430% bonus manaregen so we are never oom, we can also get up to 580% bonus health regen, further increased by visage and runic armor. We can heal from jungle camps too with our jungle item 30 per minion hit, further increase by all our heal boosts. If you run into a jungle camp at low health and use smite to finish of the big one you walk out with a full health pool, and i think that says it all.

Also during our game we start by outlasting our opponents and sustaing back up while they are gone as we keep pushing farming and taking neutrals giving us more effective time because we never really have to back unless we want to buy. By making our build cheap as fuck and being able to always stick around until our eneies have probably backed 2 or 3 times already we can gather gold faster too and thus also health and xp

The tank aspect: We don't get much health out of the items, 1050 total, but we do get to farm a lot of hp to make up for this, further enchanced by the jungle item. We get decent resistances 260/180 roughly But we also get 1k Shields !!! And we can if needed smite a camp for up to 1k heals And we have redemption for up to 1k heals Between all the healing and shielding we regenerate a lot too, and by then we should have dispatched of our opponent

The Laning / Cheap aspect: Keep in mind we will not need to go allin, we merely need to trade and poke our enemy out of lane or harass them out of jungle depending on which position you took. You will get ahead in XP and Gold if you play your cards right Try and steal as many enemy jungle camps as you can to further set them behind. Don't be surprised when you are up 1 complete item by midgame and close out your build when your enemy still has 2 slots to fill and the best part is you don't need kills to do it and the even better part is you are as tough as if you put together your best late game build. No need to rush things because you will auto snowball

Downsides The main downside here is the lack of summoner 4 but you are Sion you run in with ult and murder stuff setting people on fire is more your style anyway. Also your team might yell at you because you aren't playing the meta or picking flash, just ignore them

The playstyle is a bit different because you have to relax and just grab whatever you can when you can without worrying too much about shutting your opponent down, let them worry about shutting you down instead. Just do your thing and you will sooner rather then later overpower them anyway. This works bets in jungle and midlane. because of access to other map areas and farm. also mid is the shortest lane so flash will be missed the least here

Only really works on Sion, partly due to health this build lacks and also because of the shields and the regen/damage

Well that's it

Bit off an oddball build but i hope i have convinced you fellow Sion players to give it a try. You really will feel nigh unkillable by spamming 1k shields And opponents will yell bullshit in all chat when they attack you when you are low health but heal and shield yourself for 2k and ravage them with 1,5k true damage :)

Also do not forget the sneaky self cleanse from mikaels when you are using your passive as it gives 40% movement and slow immunity ^^ Only works on things that didn't stun you though.

Anyways have fun

I kinda really don't want to sink IP into runes when they're going away anyway though...god damn it

Spoofghoul1 votes

You might not have too

Main thing is getting that early game sustain or bulk to outlast since the build is so cheap you will auto snowball anyway and to get 10% cdr

The idea behind the runes is rather simple get the stuff you lack in the build, in this case the cdr

Then get defensive runes scaling preferably

And sustain but that can be swapped out for defense if needed, or movement which allows you to dodge stuff thus essentially giving more sustain that way

Reds i use for a small damage boost but can also be defensive runes Attack speed works best for this build but lacking that any other damage boost like AD or pen would do just fine

The items and some of the masteries are more important

The early lane sustain just makes this build easy since you can just sit there and farm and they aren't going to be able to get you low health for a clean kill

By the time they would normally be able to do that you are already a level and half an item up on them

Each item gives additional synergy and makes you exponentially harder to deal with so by ensuring they can't stop you in lane you essentially win until they hit their final items too which is way later then you can since your build is anywhere from 2,5-7k cheaper and you get to keep them down or snowball your team making it take even longer for them to get there while speeding your progression up

It's possible to get through lane without the sustain quints even without the sustain/lane masteries but it can be tougher sustain is the easy way since it works vs any opponent.

That said you have some leeway with runes and masteries but you will need at least the 10% cdr and runic armor for this build

Very sneaky, indeed.

I love off-meta theorycrafting. This is pretty fun stuff you came up with.

Martensitic2 votes

I wil definitely try that one, looks like fun =)

That being said, I see a MAJOR downside to this build.

Absolutely, positively, zero chance to shut down your lane opponent. None, nada, silch, zero, nichts, nein

This is an inherent problem of Sion himself, but a build that focuses completely on acquiring basically passive damage, is making it worse. The jungle item alone is a HUGE setback on this front already, Redemtion and Crucible don't improve the situation either.

If you have a scaling enemy toplaner, who profits more from farm than you do, this will get ugly very quickly.

For example: Akali or Jax or Kayle are a Problem. Nasus is a HUGE problem.

Imagine that Nasus, who heals more than you do, naturally, who won't go OOM, because he knows he doesn't have to fight you, who WILL outscale everything you build, who is magnitudes more threatening to your ADC, who dunks turrets like its nothing. That Nasus, played by a competent player, will easily farm 400+ stacks before even the 20 minute mark...and he has TP. He will outmanouver you, and kill your turrets in a single wave, even if he loses lane.

Sion actually has a large amount of lane bullying in his base kit, especially against champs that don't have mobility in their kit.

Martensitic2 votes

especially against champs that don't have mobility in their kit.

Which Akali (and Fiora, I forgot about her) have. Kayle is ranged. Jax builds Sustain. Nasus has sustain.

All those (and other) champs can deal with Sions predicable damage output and bullying.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

lane bullying

Sion has 5 levels to beat Akali's ass before she has "mobility." Also her mobility is garbage for dealing w/ Sion.

Kayle is not ranged and you know this. Don't meme and don't be hyperbolic.

Jax doesn't have sustain until 900 gold and even then it's a tiny amount compared to the dmg Sion can output.

Same w/ Nasus.

You bully her enough to force her to stay under tower and then stall the lane. Her blink and movement speed from shroud is not nearly enough to weather the storm of a good Sion. The costs of his abilities is tiny compared to the damage he gets from them.

Why do you talk about her level 6? I'm talking about the time leading up to level 6. And you are assuming that Sion makes the worst possible plays. Don't use a strawman in an argument, it does nothing.

You can severely delay when Jax reaches 900g and don't ignore the second part of my statement, the same w/ Nasus.

I did check my facts, you aren't reading.

franticFurball2 votes

Same w/ Nasus.

Nasus has no built in sustain?

Alright.

Soul Eater Nasus permanently has 10 / 15 / 20% bonus life steal.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Nasus

But hey, what do I know, right?

I'm just Gold 1 and have a cumulative 452 games on Nasus over the last 3 seasons, with a 60% winrate.

Escheton2 votes

Yeah, but Sion is quite good at zoning off Nasus from applying that lifesteal and getting stacks by just charging Q over it all.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

it's a tiny amount compared to the dmg Sion can output.

franticFurball2 votes

Really?

What damage can Sion put out? A weak Q, which pushes the minions towards my turret (where he can't touch me and I can farm to my hearts desire). An even weaker E, which also pushes the minions towards my turret...and his W detonation, which, you guessed it, ALSO PUSHES THE WAVE.

Needless to say, all of this costs mana, so if he tryhards pushing me out, not only does he place the wave EXACTLY where I want it, he also runs out of mana.

And you know that I can just walk out of his Q, and slow him when he tries to W, right?

"But he can fire his Q before its fully charged!!!" ... yeah, and then I can not care about it, because it does no relevant damage.

I have played this exact matchup probably 50 times at least (did I mention that the 452 games are just my RANKED games on Nasus? Well, now I did). Which means, that I played more Nasus vs. Sion matches, than you played total games with both Nasus and Sion put together.

I pick Nasus into Sion ON PURPOSE, precisely because I know he can't push me out.

But hey, how about this: If you want, you can add me, and we do a 1v1. Your Sion, against my Nasus, on toplane.

And you try and push me out of lane. If you can take my turret, you win. If we reach the 30 min mark with my turret intact, I win.

Deal?

I don't have that many Sion games I think. So I doubt I'll win. But that sounds fun. I'll add you and we can see if we can fit this in sometime soonish.

franticFurball1 votes

I am looking forward to it =)

Always nice to meet people who follow up words with actions.

Tobias Brackner1 votes

Sion's Q, W, and E are far from weak. Especially when you compare them to what Nasus can respond with to trade.

You are creating a strawman where you assume that Sion makes the worst possible plays. I am tired of people who rely on such lame ways of arguing and so I am now done with you. Look up Sion's moves and compare them to other champions in terms of damage, cooldown, and mana cost. Be sure to factor in his armor reduction. Also assume that Sion is going to use his tools in a manner to exacerbate your weaknesses.

Sion can bully you out. He can bully you out hard. Look at his kit and you will see the obvious answer of how he does it. The math is all there for you to find out.

Or don't! Continue to think you are correct and create strawman arguments where you play against Sions who do not play to the champion's strength. I'm done arguing with you.

That's why OP specifically said that the build works best for jungle or midlane.

Hey! >:( Don't forget the sweeper!item 3341

mr Boombastic7871 votes

Looks really fun! Though I think it will work better too than mid since midlaners tends to be ranges and harass you away from the minion wave. To plane is more of a chill lane and you still are close to enemy redbud and topside jungle.

Also since Ignite isn't a 100% key to the build I think you could get away with going Flash of Teleport. Teleport is useful if you choose to go top instead of jungle or mid, since you can both tp gank botlane and use it to go and get dragon.

When I get home tomorrow I will definitely try this build out! Great job!

Spoofghoul1 votes

You can take it top and grab tp

ignite isn't 100% necessary, it just makes it hard to all in you and provides useful damage and grievous wounds later

But it should work with other summoners too

Ignite is just fun with this build when you have rad buff and redsmite and redemption and you just burn through someone's hp with true damage :P

Personally prefer mid since it puts me closer to everything and both raptor camps and scuttle crabs to farm and if you do well you can roam everywhere too with ult

mr Boombastic7871 votes

I understand. Now that you tell me this TP doesn't even sound that necessary since Sion can just roam with his ult even if he goes toplane. I still have some questions though about the build.

When he is played mid, how do you play around being poked out early before you got your items? I see it is kinda hard to go for farm if you're up against, let's say a Syndra. She will just bully you away from the minion wave wich makes it hard to farm.

For starting item (midlane) do you go item 1041/item 1039 for the jungle camps and stuff or do you go item 1054 for the early sustain?

Spoofghoul1 votes

i would pick item 1054

that + your regen quints + sustain masteries make it so so syndra cannot poke you out of lane at all

you can poke her out of lane though by using E it out ranges everything she has and deals more damage then she does until she completes morello's

If you hit her with the E every time she hits you then you win lane by default because you regen everything and she doesn't

But you can use the range advantage to hit her more then she hits you to make things easier

This is exactly why you take all that sustain, it makes it near impossible to get you out of lane until she gets more ap and by then it's too late because you got even more beefy with even more sustain

This is particularly effective vs many of the mages because they lack the ap and mana to handle you in laning phase

Keep the pressure going and slaughter them at level 6 with a well place E > R > AA > W > Q > AA + ignite

Mages and the like you face mid tend to lack mobility exploit this by slowing with a max range E followed by R. Keep an eye out because they might flash but don't worry try to steer towards them and try hit them with the aoe effect anyway if you succeed you can still land the rest of the combo, just not the extra AA before the Q and probably not a max Q either but they should still be dead regardless

Assassins are harder to kill but have an even tougher time against your relentless bullying they need you poked down in order to kill you but your sustain prevents that

their mobility makes it unlikely for you to kill them if they play it right but that is ok they wont kill you either, You just poke them so low that they are forced back and keep them locked in lane with you, this removes their agency over the game completely because they rely on roaming a lot more then you do since you are leagues ahead of them when it comes to team fights

Alternatively you can even out roam them with your ult or follow them if needed Make sure to harrass their jungler too after bullying them out of lane, tilt him into camping you and keep both of their roaming teammates locked up in midlane while your jungler snowballs the rest of your team

Sion can do well vs most midlane opponents

the only tough ones are Ahri and Yasuo Though after your first item neither should be much of an issue if they play as well as you do then it becomes a bit of a stalemate usually

mr Boombastic7871 votes

Okay, thanks

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

Personally, I'd recommend trying something along the lines of: Sion item 3047 item 3025 item 3065 item 3109 item 3512 item 3190

High durability, high utility, decent sustain, and decent splitpush/tower-pressure.

Consider combining with Stoneborn Pact to heal your allies during teamfights.

Spoofghoul1 votes

would cost a bit more and lacks a lot of the damage my build offers

though it gives a bit more utility and resistances but it will lack lots of hp compared to my build as well as a giant chunk of sustain and shield power

Comes down to preferences i guess but my goal was the cheapest build possible without losing lategame tanking power or losing out on damage.

My build isn't less tanky in case you are wondering so it comes down to what you prefer, some more utility or a ton more damage

While you bring zzrot to the splitpush my build brings the ability to duel most enemies,
While your build is stronger at keeping your carries alive my build kills them if they dare come close

The build also works a different angle My build is about doing jack shit in lane yet snowball anyway then keep your opponents down and/or snowball your team to gain a teamwide advantage

It's a matter of preference, but i wanted to do a really really cheap build which allows me to bully my opponents, Sion is a decent lane bully but falls off quickly if he doesn't stay ahead. You also lose that bullying power if you don't acquire damage in some form. This build keeps you ahead by being cheap and gives you both bulk,s sustain, and damage to keep the bullying going all the way into late game.

If you are a Frequent Sion player you will know that feeling of being able to hurt your opponent while not being faced that much by their damage. And as you gain levels and items the tables turn and they are no longer scared of your damage, while you might still have that bulk and not be all that scared of them either you just feel like you are losing out on a lot of power because you lack that bullying potential this build remedies that and makes you keep that bullying power all game without losing out on bulk nor much on utility so you can stuiill be a good team fighter and tank
