Alright y'all, lets dicuss gametime duration.

How long on average do you think a match should last, feel free to use a range of time? Also please list what you view as an acceptable outlier for very short or long matches. Next up i'm trying to learn they why behind opinions. So why is that the most fun lengths for you?

Examples, Game time average should be 20-40 min. short is 15, long is 65 GTA 15-30 No short, long is 45+ GTA 30-50 Short 20, Long 80

My Standard request, Please try to down vote exclusively for crappy/rude/offtopic posts not disagreement. Trying to collect opinions + the why n what that forms them.

When I first started playing league, SR game lengths averaged at 30-40 minutes. That seemed like a good game length because it would be around the time that late game carries would hit their power spikes (around 30-35 minutes), early game snowballers would fall off, and there seemed to be more need to team coordination to really close a game.

Like...a game that seemed like it was a solid loss by 20 minutes could still be won with the late game carries and coordination. A lot of my fondest memories of League came from those such games, because comebacks feel really good--much better than rollstomping, in my opinion. I dunno, to me it's more fun to win the game through skill rather than who deals more damage early and makes the other team completely irrelevant.

Which is my problem with game lengths today. I know Riot said however long ago that they were trying to shorten game times (though now, with the minion buffs, they're trying to lengthen them again?), and now my game times are usually 20-30 minutes...that is if the team who lost early game doesn't surrender at 15 minutes. Very rarely do I get the late game comebacks, and that's honestly directly tied to many changes made to purposefully speed up game times.

It should vary based on team comp. If I have an early game team and we all do well I expect that game to end in 20 or so.

If I have a midgame team and I transition well from early to mid it should end in 30.

If I have a late game team comp and we hit late game we should win at 40 min

This gives the power points of champions to be exploited by both sides to win at the time that works best for your champ. I do not want late game to start at 20 minutes nor do I want late game to never happen. I want team comp to decide length.

This is my favorite topic. :D

Spend 20 minutes for a bad game or spend 40 minutes for a nightmare that you can't escape because you'll get banned for doing so?

Spend 20 minutes to win a game or spend 40 minutes to struggle for a win that should've been obtained long ago?

If you chose 20 minutes for both you have at least half a fucking brain.

If you chose 40 minutes for both you have to be put down.

It's not really about the game length that is so important its about the "effective game length".

Imagine towers would be buffed to 150 million HP and the kill gold got reworked to first blood gives 150k gold to every team member on your team.

The game lasts like for ever but the game was over after first blood.

Right now the average effective game length is too short.

Going back to your original post I like to have 30-40 min games where people get to like 4-5 items, assuming those 30 - 40 min are the effective game length

I prefer 30-40 minutes. That said- if forced to choose between shorter or longer than that I'll take longer. Why? If a game goes on longer it typically means no one player on either team got so fed they ran away with the game. As a support player the types of teamfights that happen when a game stalls out are much more enjoyable and it feels like you have more impact.

IMO Riot could do a lot to normalize game lengths.

  • Reduce either the power spike many champions get with 1-2 items OR limit early kill gold so no one player can run away with the game. Keeps games from being decided in 15 minutes.
  • Increase the power of Dragon and Baron buffs past 30 minutes. Makes it so games get more and more inevitable the longer they go on. Keeps games from lasting forever.

45 minutes average. For a well balanced match made game 25 minutes for a stomp Bear in mind when I started the average game was 50min and could easily go into 90min games. And I loved that prefer it. But I recognize the need to compromise 45 seems good
