Look back, did you really need to rework malzahar?

Seriously, the changes were tweeted out https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DAKuz0GVYAAnADG.jpg:large

Make it seem like the rework was just not necessary, because all of the net changes which will have been accomplished (including the ms and atk range nerf) could've been accomplished without having changed his W or passive.

##Call of the Void CD: 9 sec -> 6 sec Damage: 80 / 135 / 190 / 245 / 300 (+ 80% AP) -> 70 / 110 / 150 / 190 / 230 (+ 80% AP) Silence: 1.4 / 1.8 / 2.2 / 2.6 / 3 -> 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 Cost: 80 / 85 / 90 / 95 / 100 -> 80 All ranks

##Null Zone Damage: 20 / 22.5 / 25 / 27.5 / 30% (+5% per 100 AP) -> 10 / 12.5 / 15 / 17.5 / 20% (+5% per 100 AP)

##Malefic Visions Damage: 80 / 140 / 200 / 260 / 320 (+ 80% AP) ~~ -> 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 / 220 (+ 80% AP) Cost: 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 / 120 -> 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 Mana Restored: 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26~~ -> 2% of maximum mana [new] Refresh: Call of the Void and Nether Grasp now refresh the duration of Malefic Visions.

##Nether Grasp Damage: ~~250 / 400 / 550 (+ 130% AP) ~~ -> 125 / 250 / 375 (+115% AP)

Now, i did actually give the W the pre-rework scaling, but that's just because you're removing the voidling scaling all together, so 2.5% per 100 AP isn't massive. In fact, you could argue that it could've been left at it's old damage, which would make up for the voidling AP damage.

My point is, that instead of having to go through this massive, what can only be described as a cluster%$#! (lol mods were being a little sensitive earlier), of passive nerfs and voidling reworks, this whole thing could've been accomplished if you had just toned down the numbers some on the old malzahar. Which would've left AD malzahar completely in tact and without the voidling swarm, wouldn't have put malzahar into a pick/ban support role for months.

After all, it's not like these two new abilities actually added anything to the kit. The abnormal spell shield just acts as voidling blocking did, and the W just acts as a farming tool most of the time (which some people think is all his old passive was good for), and damage for his ult combo, which is W did anyway.

Seriously, this whole thing just reeks of poorly thought out "change for the sake of change". [slayer-jinx-unamused]

But now its easier for LeeSin to make #LCSbigplays on Malzahar.

All reworks just make the champion have some gimmick or shift power in a way that allows the Riot favourites to exploit more weaknesses.

Just look at poor Rammus being given a 60% self slow. Gotta go fast!

Well with the new PBE changes, the whole point is that it doesn't make #LCSbigplays easier. If you're playing one of these hyperactive knuckleheaded champions like lee, then he's just going to stop you dead in your tracks the exact same way, and then either kill you or die.

If he's more likely to die on average, then he's really got no purpose as a champion, because he was designed around being an anti-mage... not like "counter to mage", but like take all of the things which make mages strong, range, AoE, AoE CC, wave control, exc. And change all of those things, while making him immobile. In effect, he was the mage designed to counter the designs which counters the typical mage. Though because his weaknesses were generally the strengths of the average mage, it made him very easy to exploit for the average mage (as well as some other classes like "controllers" and "wardens").

ffs these subclass names are so unintuitive.

I like how it says:

[New] Beam Damage

But beam damage isn't new :^|

Riot announces the next #new champion.

This new champion, is themed like a gargoyle, they're a vanguard (hybrid burst mage)

P: MR grants bonus AP Q: Slow, Circular AoE W: Shield that gives increased resistances and heals when the target shielded champion takes damage E: A line skillshot, which leaves behind a move speed trail (like a mini keld ult) R: A big AoE channel, which taunts the enemies in range, and detonates for damage. Like a nunu ult mixed with amumu.

No they didn't, but that's exactly why they could put him on a Roster update instead, because he didn't need a ton of help, they just needed to clean up the uniteractive part about Space aids being fire and forget. And if Riot had problems with Space aids ability to AFK wave clear, they would just nerf him to the state of unplayable until he really needed one.

They simply reformated his kit so that he's more reliant on his voidlings, and takes more effort that just space aids to wave clear. The just over did it with the initial rework. But considering their reasons I mentioned earlier, they wouldn't simply revert the rework in it's entire.

The uninteractive part of his kit didn't make him broken though. There was no reason to nerf him to a state of being unplayable because the champion didn't have some kind of massive unfair advantage and wasn't causing any problems (for at least the past 3 years).

The space aids might have been able to afk wave clear at a point, but it was still less wave clearing power than most mages anyway. It's just that it was a drawn out process rather than instant. If Viktor, Aurelion, Vlad, karthus (i'm just using other "battle mages", but basically all mages apply), want to have a completely uninteractive lane, they can even easier than malzahar could.

The only really difference is that malzahar's ult made it difficult for assassins and other high damage relatively low bulk champions to 1v1 him. Which is the opposite of the average mage. **In fact, this whole thing seems like a result of riot wanting to homogenize entire classes of champions, on the _assumption _ that people were playing champions for the class roles, not for the individual fucking kits. ** Every single part of malzahar's kit which could be considered problematic was over exaggerated by riot and the boards once riot announced that malzahar was on the list of the major champions to be in the MYMU.

Besides, there's nothing inherently worse, in respect to design, about a champion being uninteractive, there is just a massive fucking bias at this point, which riot has catered towards for years now, and people have become annoyingly complacent about it. Riot just said fuck the RTS aspect of the game, we're going full action RPG, all the strategy can be done before the game in the fucking champion select screen. If given the choice, i'd pick an uninteractive champion over a champion who's only real flaw is for them to make a mechanical mistake, every fucking time. At least in the case of the uninteractive champion, one can plan and play around the champion, rather than having to wait around twiddling my thumbs for a fucking miss-click.
