whats the difference between mastery chests and store chests?

ive had 150 rp sitting around from a previous skin sale, so i thought to me 'why not?' since i wont be able to afford anything else with it and picked up another chest from the store.

even though they have the same icon as opposed to the promotion chest, the chest didnt stack with my mastery chests in the loot tab. so they are clearly not the same thing. whats different about them?

do they contain different loot? do they have different drop rates for certain loot?

They cost money and don't count towards the chest limits. Only difference (unless you get the special chests, which I'm not sure are even enabled yet)

that doesnt answer my question though. the chest slots and the chests that drop off those slots dont have to be connected by additional information.

basically the fact that you get a chest off one of your weekly chest slots doesnt mean the chest itself has to be different than the store chests. the code is simply arranged in a way, that buying chests with rp simply adds them without invoking the entire thing that is responsible for the chests slots.

for some reason, theyre not stacking because theyre not the same object, or there is additional information attached to one of those chest types. there has to be more to it.

hextech chests are not refundable. at least not once opened, so that cant be it either. and before its opened it shouldnt make a difference which chest youre refunding if theyre all the same.

so im asking what the difference between mastery chests and store chests is.
