How do you deal with fed solo laners as an ADC?

Randomonium··1 votes·914 views

This is one of the things I struggle with the most as ADC. Either our mid or top lane (or both) will fall really far behind and even though I do well in lane I still feel like I'm worthless because their solo laner will just dive me in team fights. I feel like my ability to succeed is based solely on how well my team can peel for me and if I don't get any peel then its GG.

And that thought really disturbs me because I want to control my own destiny in ranked. I hate blaming my team. I am always looking for ways that I can play better and improve. But in this one instance I can't find a solution to this problem that doesn't involve my team assisting me. Any assistance is appreciated.

For reference, the game that "broke the camel's back" on this issue was a game where I was Corki versus a fed Fiora and Kassadin. Even though I went 6/1 in lane I couldn't do anything against them. My team would dive their back line (despite me pleading with them over and over to help peel for me) and then Fiora or Kass would be free to just 1v1 me and my options were either burn everything to try and get away from them (and leave my team in a 5v4) or just futility deal as much damage as I could before they inevitably killed me.

Thanks for the help.

you dont, these are the games you lose

thats literally it lol

the thing with adc is even if you go 5-0 in lane you still arent a dueling 1v1 monster of a champ that can come out of like top lane or even jungle the only way you can win is if (hopefully) your teammate who got rekt is building tank and lives long enough for you to dish out the damage, but that never happens

Yeah, they just keep building all damage and diving the back line who isn't the threat.

This is one of the reasons why Vayne is such a popular ADC for soloq. You can get fed in lane and then proceed to 1v1 fed solo landers.

In the scenario you gave you actually needed your team to help you. Fiora and Kass are hard to evade without help. If it was one or the other, counterbuilding usually helps. Fiora is tough to build against, you mostly needed to keep track of her pre-fight and kite away as long as possible. Kass is just hexdrinker and pray to outdamage him or that your team pays attention.

In general though, fed bruisers / tanks you can usually kite out. Not many of them have big point and clicks that will catch you so if you play engages well you can really delay them reaching you. As always, build armor pen if they are stacking armor ( unless you're Corki ) and red buff is always a huge help.

Fighters like Jax are a little tougher. You really need to avoid getting stunned by him otherwise you're just screwed. Similar story with things like Xin. Honestly teamwork is the best way to deal with most of the fighters if they get fed. You can kite them for a while, but most have lower cooldown gapclosers so they will catch you if you can't win fast.

Assassins are probably the worst when ahead. You need to pick up enough defense to survive the combo and hopefully be able to win the fight. Whether it be mercurial / steraks / maw / some kind of armor item. Ward up as much as possible, if you see their approach you have a far better shot at outplaying them.

Mages are generally as simple as dodge their stuff and pick up a hexdrinker or mercurial or maybe both if the game calls for it.

Overall though, it's usually a team effort to beat fed champions. ADCs duel well, but fed solos will have a level advantage and in this case a gold advantage as well so you can't expect to win the 1v1 everytime.

Good points.

It freaking sucks that there's not much I can do to stop this though.

On the plus side, I'll be really good at kiting once I actually climb and have teammates who actually know how to play the game and peel for the ADC.

Find a support duo if you can then you always have at least one teammate paying attention. It also helps since you'll have a higher chance of building a lane with actual synergy rather than some of the whack stuff you get in solo queue. But yeah, kiting is king. Once you understand how to kite really well, the game becomes much easier.

The bane of ADC.

You sacrifice all your personal defense for the sake of damage... or should at least.

You either accept the inevitable loss if your team refuses to peel for you, stay out of fights and let your team die while you try to get objectives (probably a loss)... or you start to build defensive items and sacrifice your damage. Yeah, that sucks for the ADC role, but it's slightly better than being a completely free meal for the fed assassins.

Yeah, I kind of feel like the only option there is build more defensive items like item 3053 item 3156 item 3139 etc

Yep... sometimes it's bad enough to warrant a guardian angel, randuin's omen, or banshee's veil.

don't let them kill you

short answer is, you don't win. unless you have a REALLY peel/cc heavy comp.

Teamwork.

ADC's deal the most damage when they're protected and not taking damage. Honestly, you're not supposed to win every 1v1 match-up.

I feel like my ability to succeed is based solely on how well my team can peel for me and if I don't get any peel then its GG.

Unfortunately, that's a big part of playing ADC. That's why supports lane with you. That's why assassins try to delete you in teamfights. That's why bruisers dive you. That's why tanks peel for you specifically instead of the support.

You are the team's core in certain metas and team compositions. Your best bet is to pick according to your team's composition. A team with no gap closers would mean Sivir would be a great choice, while Ashe would supply a decent engage/disengage on a crowd control level. Stuff like that.

Watch for their mia and tp. During siege or teamfight I'd grab defensive items first, like quicksliver against fiora/zed and hexdrinker against other ap mids. It's fine even if you can't kill them, as long as you've managed to attract their attention and occupy the fed opponent while the rest of your team deals with other underfed opponents.
