So, with Malzahar's changes including a lot of damage nerfs, is he going to be a Utility Mage now?

Reading the PBE Roundup on SS@20 (http://www.surrenderat20.net/p/69-pbe-cycle.html) and seeing a lot of damage nerfs on Malzahar, I'm finding myself wondering if he is merely having excess damage trimmed down and shifted into Voidlings, or if he is going to be a Utility Mage after this, providing area control and lockdown in lieu of high damage.

I mean, I love Malzahar to death but I do concede his Q and E pre-MYMU hit a bit too hard. But some of these nerfs look massive. Not sure how to feel about them.

I think he's gonna be more like a DPS mage, staying in fights longer rather than bursting people down.

I'll really like New Malz then, I love whittling people down with sustained spells.

He's more like a mage-fighter now, more sustained DPS and even more tankiness than he used to have.

Sounds fun, it'll be interesting to re-learn him.

Yes the damage has been lower but the mana cost and the cooldown of his skills went down as well. Not to mention the damage his voildlings do when there are 3-6 out on the field is insane for both ad or ap malz.

If all else fails go the item 3116 item 3151 route: With the constant refresh that Malz E and Voiding will do the HP burn will do a lot of damage. You can also get item 3812 as the Voilding will proc the lifesteal passive and that with the HP of Ryalis/torment will make you surprisingly tanky

I already loved Rylandries on Malz, the refresh will make it more fun. >:D

Indeed. Try Death Dance if you can when the rework happens. I like to hear others thoughts on it.

Most of his power was shifted to his Voidlings so the nerf is justifiable i think.

He's going to be more reliant on using his voidlings while being able to shrug off damage thanks to his passive. That passive definitely more than makes up for any damage reduction.

I thought his new passive WAS damage reduction?

;P I kid, I know what you meant.

Uh, he also had some damage trimmed because you can refresh the duration on your E if you hit them with your Q/Ult, so he has to chain his spells together to maximize damage.
