Why do certain champions gets to be good at every stage of the game?

Never understood, why riot changed their design, ever since the juggernauts change in s5 everything went downhill in terms of balance. An example, why does Caitlyn longest range adc, that can crush pretty much every bottom lane with almost any support, also gets to scale super well into the lategame, because riot decided to make her passive ignore armor, and traps / net make her crit with that very passive. I mean this literally makes playing something like Tristana pointless. Another example, Darius used to be one of those noob stomper champions, were he would really be strong early, but if you manage to not feed him kills in the early game, he would fall off and suffer the consenquences of playing Darius, now Riot decided to make him into a champion that is good at every stage of the game, hell even when you stomp him he can comeback in teamfights. Playing champion that takes skill, is literally pointless right now, because another noob champion that takes way less skill and thus is harder to mess up with, can take its place and do their job better. Now Jinx and Katarina buffs really? I'd rather see a buff given to champions that take skill like Azir or something, atleast when they stomp me, I can atleast think yeah that guy outplayed me and not point and clicked me.

there has always been champions who are good at every stage of the game. The reason to pick other champions is because those other champions are better at certain points in the game. Champions being strong at multiple stages in the game does not make them be the best, just solid picks. You want a late game champion? you can pick someone who is decent in every stage of the game or pick a truly late game oriented champion that will just be stronger than the one that is decent in every stage. It's called risk vs reward. Do you risk betting everything into reaching the late game? do you risk everything into not letting the game reach the late game? or do you play it safe and pick something that is ok at every stage but with the risk that you will be outscaled in the late game or not be as strong as the opposition in the early game?

uhh no, Orianna has a decent laning phase to the point where she can survive that does not mean she has a great early game same with her mid game. She is not terrible but she does not have a great mid game. Her late game is where she shines. Gangplank is in the same boat except he has a slightly worst early game in exchange for a slightly better mid game. Just because a champion can survive the early game or counter a specific champion in the early game does not mean they have a great early game

First off, Caitlyn falls behind during mid game. She's strong in lane and at late game, but she struggles in between. Secondly, it seems you haven't kept up to date with the changes to her. Early on after the rework, they not only REMOVED the armor ignoring on her passive, but they also changed her cupcakes' bonus damage from % scaling to flat, which both of these removed a lot of late game power for extra early strength.

My two most-played champs this season are actually Caitlyn and Tristana. Matter of fact, I tend to prefer Tristana for her safety in the role. Her jump covers a large distance, is hard to interrupt and has a relatively low mana cost, plus resets. This is supplemented by her AoE, single-target knock-back ult nuke which distance scales up with rank. By level 16, her basic attack and spell ranges even outrange Caitlyn. To die on Tristana, some horrible misplay by yourself or your own team and/or severe unsportsmanlike conduct by the enemy team has to have happened.

Ironically enough, you're wrong about Caitlyn, she's not all that good late game. Her base AS is shit (0.568), so her scaling with bonus AS from items is also shit. This makes her base AA dps shit (Headshot helps, but many other marksmen have better AA steroids, like Vayne's W or Trist Q). Darius's bonus AD from 5-stacking some1 (or ult dunking for lethal) is the only thing that's really out of line on him. The fact that he has sustain now is problematic for melee lane opponents because they have basically 0 effective laning strategies against him (used to be that you played the sustain game into him because that was his only weakness in lane, now even that's off the table)...thankfully ranged top laners can shit on him if played competently. Most champs that deal damage can make comebacks in teamfights even when they got shat on in lane, that's a naturally consequence of being a damage dealing champion. Katarina takes a ton of skill to play well, though her numbers are currently overtuned so it often doesn't feel like it, and afaik riot's looking to change her power curve more towards lategame and away from her current naturally snowbally nature (you like don't even have to feed her and she becomes a monster by mid game right now).

Speaking to the big picture, the game, I think, is in an awkward spot right now. It's transitioning from what it was earlier on, where stats>mechanics, to what it is becoming, where mechanics>stats (for example, consider Garen v Trundle top a few season's back, that was entirely a question of whose stats (i mean in game stats here, like AD, AR, hp, etc) were better as to who would win a fight, you didn't need any mechanical skill, and only a modicum of strategic understanding to play that matchup as either of them; compare to current Yasuo v Katarina, where mechanics are everything in that matchup). I think riot's going to have a lot of difficulty with balance over the next few seasons as that transition plays out, but once we get there, the game's going to become pretty awesome.
