Gangplank's remake doesn't work

I had high hopes for the remake, but it doesn't work. I'd hoped they would give him the tools needed to make him viable. He's still not. The barrels were a cool idea, but they don't work. Toss one down and wait for the timer to tick down and just when it does a ranged champ takes it out. To make them viable take away the timer and make them instantly explodeable to GP but have the barrels have a three hit explode by enemy champs. Right now GP's game is reduced to barrel management which is boring. Riot tried to make a mini game out of it, but it really just slows they gameplay down. Look at Fiora's new mini game, lightning.

GP needs armor and life so he won't be so squishy. That should have been the remake they game him. But we got barrels and a lost arm that has been replaced with a metal arm that does nothing special. He was basically wrecked and put back the way he was for the glory of Miss Fortune. Riot, that's dumb.

what struck me last night is how thematically and play-wise, the character has swapped identities. it used to be gangplank was depicted as a humorous pirate, with a jolly, if spooky, laugh. now he's depicted as a serious badass pirate, ok. then his playstyle went from this really serious, blowing the heads off your own minions, buffing your team and running in to mess someone up, to running around in the back line, throwing down barrels, hoping you can spring a trap, in a kind of prankster-type play style. it's like planks identity and playstyle were switched. I don't really like it, either.

Still has cast times, no mobility, and no hard CC. It's hard to stay relevant in this game like that.

Those barrels:

-Do autoattack damage in a hefty AoE. -Ignore 60% of armor. -Activate Parrrley if blown with Q. -Reset Gangplank's passive cooldown and give him the speed boost from the passive. -Have a 2-second slow.

They'd damn well better be hard to use for the ludicrous amount of power in them.

You have to work the barrels, you have to respect the barrels, you have to accept the barrels, you have to love the barrels. jk You just have to be creative with them. You can put 1 barrel down close to you and just before it's timer is down, put another adjacent in range of you enemy and blow the first one. You can put 1 in the bush and use that to fire up another barrel you place near you enemy. It's hard to manage well, especially versus ranged champs, but it's doable.

And why nerf the oranges? That was the only thing that kept him alive!
