The new Ryze is terrible. Why is he being balanced around some imaginary potential?

Yenn··4 votes·415 views

He has 43% win rate and his overall kit's functionality is relatively unchanged, yet the balance team is hesitant to buff him? How does this make any sense?

It feels like his burst damage was gutted in favor of sustained damage, which his kit and lack of survivability (as his only damage mitigation tool requires him to sacrifice damage) doesn't let him take advantage of.

The very first thing you do to "prove" your case is spout an arbitrary number like a mindless drone. Why not you go play him for a bit and figure it out for yourself?

As someone who went from Mastery 0 to 5 (with 500 blue essence short of 6) with Ryze in less than a month, I had ample opportunity to figure out his new playstyle. His combo system has more rhyme and reason to it now. Previously, you just threw out his spells in whatever order his cooldowns would allow. Now there's a structure. His E is weak, but it has a very low cooldown and it sets him up to use his other two spells. His Q is the main source of his damage, and his W allows him to hit a stationary target. His ult now allows him to move himself and an entire team a short distance; very good for surprise engages and especially escapes. I can't tell you how many times it has saved me in just the one month since he was released.

Ryze's greatest weakness now is himself. You as the player have to figure out his combo system, as he's VERY dependent on it. His various combos have to be used in different situations; they are all laid out in his champion spotlight video. That is what people have yet to understand. They just throw out spells mindlessly and expect to get somewhere. It's not a difficult thing to learn; I figured it out in just two games, and that was enough to start tearing a warpath through toplane. That aside, he's also very mana dependent, so you have to pace yourself so you don't run out too quickly and have to constantly recall back to base to reload (something that even I still struggle with).

So yes, despite being a mere 450 IP champion, Ryze is surprisingly difficult to master. But... he is ANYTHING but weak. I've been a terror in the top lane with him, and he's now my go to champion if I'm just looking to win a game without contest or hassle.

Next time you want to complain about a champion, hang the meta game numbers, hang the win ratios, and hang the ban rates. Hang.... ALL OF IT, and go play the champion for yourself. NOW GET OUT OF HERE!

Your mastery with a champion is completely irrelevant. You can completely suck and get Mastery 7 with a champ over enough games by playing against other trash players. The fact is Ryze has a 43% winrate in Plat+ and is among lowest among damage as well. Your 2.0 KDA in low elo doesn't speak volumes for the champ.

People in Plat will know how to play the champ far better than you do and they struggle. Ryze gets deleted if he goes straight damage and doesn't do enough damage to be relevant if he builds tanky now.

I too enjoy taking 1400 damage from 2 buttons.

Cass does more damage than Ryze does from longer range without relying on the enemy not dodging her.

She has a permanent slow with Rylai and a frontal stun. Ryze only has a 1 second root (2 second on engage), on a long cooldown. He can't kite when someone jumps into his face after it's down. Ryze can't viably build Rylai because he needs more AP to function, due to his lower scaling.

The damage isn't even comparable. Cass completely shits on Ryze's damage, and the root doesn't make up for it. Cass does 418 + .83 AP / second, while Ryze does 293 + .53 AP / second (assuming ~3k mana)

Cass can keep 100% uptime on Rylai, allowing her to kite at all times.

You're Silver. You and everyone you play against is the equivalent of a handicapped monkey. You don't get to have opinions on balance, sorry.

Didn't you get that on old ryze? :P

Marshbouy1 votes

nope. new ryze. OP doesn't know what he's talking about and thinks that balancing for LCS isn't important.

Handy Sandy 1 votes

Maybe because he can make a mana shield and get movement speed whenever he wants. His Q's cooldown resets whenever he uses an ability..He has some of the highest burst in the game in my opinion. I was in a game vs a 4k health Zac using ryze, just my E and Q did 1/4 of his health. He also has point and click cc which makes up for his shorter range. Also..how does a mage with point and click cc have a lack of survivability? All this stuff more than makes up his lack of range.

He needs an ult that is actually useful. Everything else about him would be fine if he had an ult that could do something other than popping in the middle of the enemy team and being like "OH HEY SUP MY NAME'S RYZE" before getting blown up.

Yea because teleport ganks aren't strong. Why tf would you teleport in the middle of a team? It's used to teleport minions to other lanes or gank or escape..you have to be creative with it. And who needs another attack move when you litterally do 2k damage from one combo..and another 1k because your Q resets

Right because the delay on it allows you to teleport away when you're trying to run from people. I laugh so hard when I see Ryzes try to run with that shit.

2k damage from a combo, explains why Ryze is almost bottom in damage compared to other champs. lmao

What the fuck did I just read...

Yeah maybe your frontline could hold off everyone else while you do your portal so you can get to safety because your carry died You obviously haven't played him or played against a good one.
