Thoughts and Discussion: Yorick

This is entirely on a personally level, but I felt Yorick was a lot more fun before his rework and is more bland and boring after. Do not mistake this for saying revert to old Yorick or anything because old Yorick had some majour issues on multiple levels.

There was word that got out of one of the concept talks of Yorick that made him sound like this super cool graving digging general that leads his army of ghouls to do his bidding for him! That idea was super cool and made me excisted, but we did not get that, instead we got an A.I. simulator that has bland to use abilities outside of that.

I never thought of Yorick has a split pusher before nor is this a healthy identity for a champion to have, because if a split pushing identity champion is ever strong it becomes super obnixous and not fun to play against. All you end up getting is a champion that avoids all combat and plays PvE until the game ends, this is not very fun to be in for anyone, nor interesting.

What I am thinking is another rework for Yorick, something that plays on Yorick leading an army of ghouls and has abilities interesting to use (not an indicating factor of ability strength - because a basic attack enhancement and arena trap are strong abilities, just nothing about them that is super fun to use). For the record, I do like the direction of having Yorick as a juggernaut-type, slow moving melee that deals an insane amount of damage (also beefy).

Giving a rough example kit below, everything is a very rough concept which means they are wild ideas that have no finalization to it!

Shepherd of Souls (Passive): Leash Range: 400 units Whenever Yorick casts an ability he summons a ghoul that follows him around for the next 8 seconds or until its death, attacking the closest enemy near Yorick. There is no hard limitation to the amount of ghouls in play at a time.

Ghouls have 100 - 250 (+70%AP)(+10%bonus Health) health and deal (+10-20%AD) physical damage for their attacks.

Last Rites (Q): Cooldown: 7/6.5/6/5.5/5 seconds; Cost: 45 mana; Range: 750 units Passive: Ghouls deal 6/9/12/15/18(+15%AP) bonus magic damage.

Active: Yorick flings dark mist to the target location dealing 80/110/140/170/200(+50%AP) magic damage to struck enemies.

If at least one ghoul is currently summoned then Yorick flings the closest ghoul to the target location dealing 60/85/110/135/160(+20%AD) physical damage instead upon impact and clinging onto a struck enemy for 3 seconds, prioritizing champions, before running back to Yorick.

Death's Embrace (W): Cooldown: 14/12.5/11/9.5/8 seconds; Cost: 65 mana; Range: 600 units Passive: Ghoul attacks heal Yorick for 1/2/3/4/5(+5%AP)(+0.5%health) health, doubled against champions and epic monsters.

Active: Yorick digs up a chunk of dirt out of the target location for 3 seconds, enemies that fall in the pit are rooted and disarmed for 1.5 seconds, ghouls prioritize their attacks against trapped enemies.

If 3/3/2/2/1 ghoul(s) gather to attack trapped enemies then they keep them there for the pit's remaining duration.

Grave Stone (E): Cooldown: 12/11/10/9/8 seconds; Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana; Range: 400 units Yorick uses the weight of his grave stone to hurl him in the target direction, dealing 40/70/100/130/160(+120/130/140/150/160%AD) physical damage and stunning for 1.25 seconds.

Struck enemies are grabbed by currently active ghouls, one ghoul per enemy, and brought down the pit if Death's Embrace is currently active. Struck champions are prioritized to be grabbed.

Army of the Dead (R): Cooldown: 100 seconds; Cost: 100 mana; Range: 700 units Yorick opens up a portal to the underworld for 4 seconds, which unleashes 1/2/3 ghouls every second. Ghouls that come from Army of the Dead are not tied to Yorick's location.

splitpushing is interesting, though, doing it well requires good macro and awareness. yorick just happens to not be an interesting splitpusher, because he's leashed to the minion wave as his only way of getting ghouls, short of his ult which is on a high cooldown. frankly I think it's bullshit that no other minionmancer takes as much time as Yorick to get their minions into play, and yet his are the ones that disappear the quickest.

what's really annoying about it is that this forces him into item 3078 and tank to be able to fight anyone out of lane, because despite the great ratios on his summons, none of them will live long enough for him to make use of it AND after they're dead he has to go back to meekly hitting minions for a while before he can throw them at you again. Yorick has to be the worst interpretation of a minion master I've seen; even old Yorick pulled this off better.

the ghouls should either get tankier as the game progresses (i.e no more auto attack one shots) or he should be given the means to summon them more often and independently of Q. my suggestion would be to put grave generation on his W, at a 1/1/2/2/3 which is purely a late game buff with minimal effect on lane Yorick's early. Jungle Yorick will improve but people haven't caught on to its power yet

also he should be given more leeway to pull ghouls and maiden away from minion waves outside of throwing E at a neutral mob. the lack of control in his ability to push is awful design

This post is genius. I'm just going to comment here so I can come back to it later because it literally sums up every single problem with Yorick atm.

Old Yorick was one of the most boring champions there was. I think you're definition of fun and interesting is vastly different from everyone else's. The Ghoul spam was cancerous, and fell off insanely fast after lane.

Also I very much disagree on splitpushing being inherently unhealthy.

At no point did I say old Yorick was good, he was flawed on multiple levels, but new Yorick is less fun and interesting.

This thread proposes a rework for a perfectly healthy champion.

Your statement about split-pushing is inherently incorrect given that Yorick is unique in his ability to split-push a lane without actually being in the lane due to how his ultimate works. Even then, split-pushing is very much a viable strategy - Riot's nerfed the very strongest split-pushers only because they could invalidate the game, not because it's a bad thing to do.

Your statement about trapping people not being fun is also inherently incorrect. How do you NOT derive joy from trapping an enemy in a wall of unliving mass as you have your ghouls and/or maiden dogpile the enemy? You don't even feel a little happy that you probably made that guy burn Flash on a wall with two HP?

Oh, and your kit is terrible. Too many AP ratios means Yorick is trapped into subpar itemization, and you've gone and turned Yorick into some sort of ranged hybrid mage thing that's cancerous to play against since he can poke you all day long. It's like some sort of Frankenstein's monster of his old kit with new Yorick's themes, which means you've completely missed the point on why old Yorick had to go.

If I want to get even more specific, this Yorick has ridiculously powerful ranged CC that's grossly inappropriate for a juggernaut and still inappropriate for a basic ability. Being able to root AND disarm for 1.5 seconds on such a short cooldown is more or less Amumu ults all over the place - and if you combine it with your own ult, it's an easy doubling of the duration. With 40% CDR (actually plausible because this is some freaky mage Yorick here), you'll hit 4.8 seconds of cooldown, meaning only 1.8 seconds of downtime between pits. You control the battlefield completely at this point.

If that wasn't enough, now you also have a dash+stun on a 4.8 second cooldown, which stuns for 1.25 seconds - meaning 3.55 seconds of downtime. You're outputting more CC and better CC than supports like Leona and Alistar whose sole job is to spam CC all over the place. AND you deal damage!

I can't possibly see how this kit is in any way an improvement over Yorick's kit, old or new, nor can I see how you have any basis in starting a discussion and assuming a tone of authority when you yourself don't play Yorick.
