can grasps sustain component be buffed again, if it was changed to a shield?

as far as i remember, the sustain component of the keystone was cut in half because of noodle fights between tank ekko, and maokai on top lane. (not that thats an issue anymore, but whatever)

considering riots burning hatred for lane phases that are won by lane manipulation and out CSing your opponent instead of flashy LC$ big play slaughter fests and constant fights, there is basically no chance the health return would get buffed back.

so what if the sustain would be changed to not stick?

instead of 3% of the enemy max health stolen, it would grant a larger shield of your own % max health that persists for 4 seconds?

it would also be nice if the thing would be changed to get triggered by abilites. you know. some champions who would want the mastery dont constantly auto attack to trigger it off cooldown and it gets awkward...

or at least increase its cooldown to 10 seconds and make the effect larger.

this would be a good replacement for CoC which should be in the cunning tree

sure, put the only actual impactful defensive mastery in resolve, that is designed for engage tanks into the tree for supports, adc and assassins. makes 0 sense.

correct, the effect shields have on the game is more similar to evasion or deflection in other games than simple damage mitigation.

Also due to the nature of the ability it must be on a high cooldown.

something like grasp on the otherhand which has a 4 second cooldown could be tailored to tankier champs, or rather dedicated tank builds. That also leaves an extra slot open in resolve.

CoC due to its long cooldown and sortof large general size is actually more appropriate for squishy attack dodgers. Its the closest a moba can get to evasion without RNG and Yasuo has been shown to use this extremely effectively despite his squishy build. On a melee carry this could be great. Might have to change the trigger though.

This also provides a way to begin further inching away from actual sustain on champs who damage should be sticking to which in turn makes it realistic to give tanks more ridiculous amounts of regen again which in turn (again) means that grasp could be turned into something heavily impactful strictly for heavy hp and defense stackers.

Grasp of the colossus - do what grasp already does but now scales with armor and MR

it still doesnt fit into the cunning tree. thematically its supposed to grant a burst of defenses upon engaging on the enemy team with cc. you can interpret it however the fuck you want really.

be it your champion "dodging", or just steeling himself for the fight.

and like i said. id rather prefer grasp to be on a like 10 second cooldown with 2.5 times the effect. in that case it would probably also have to be frontloaded otherwise youd never proc it before you die.

however making the shield scale with armor/mr does seem like a nice touch.

Like I said, you may want to change the trigger but the limited damage evasion is already in the process of being abused by mobile squishies like jax and irelia already and other duelists. Yasuo has already demonstrated how well this works while people who play champs like malphite are stuck bitching about how the shield is lackluster.

meanwhile fighters are tanking more damage than actual tanks (for various reasons often involving lifesteal or abilities) though in limited windows generally. Things like rapid healing should be primarily a tank thing.

really in general I think that most tanks can be buffed if we start equating shields with evasion and healing with resilience. But the really important part is separating the two so that they can be balanced separately.

If Akali gets a 1 second yasuo shield she could lose her heal, get 2 times the shield, and probably be balanced as long as its higher cooldown and scales with offense

Meanwhile Nautilus could just regain his hp overtime like TahmKench has demonstrated can be extremely well implemented for creating a tank that cant be killed too easly unless you take killing it seriously or the tank is going ham.
