How to make being behind less frustrating, reduce toxicity, while still rewarding people who do well

One thing that makes league so fun is that it is incredibly rewarding if you play well and snowball. It is however often annoying if you are behind; which is an understatement. I'm sure we can all agree that flaming, ragequitting, trolling etc are motivated by feelings of being frustrated that you or your team are behind, that you wont stand a chance of having a fair and fun fight, and that you are forced to endure it for a long time. I consider myself to be a not at all toxic player, but even I have games that make me say in chat "FML!!!! OMG I AM SO TILTED, IM OFFICIALLY LYING ON MY DESK HORIZONTALLY! I'm sorry team, this is my fault......"

A POTENTIAL SOLUTION: When one is behind the average amount of gold and xp in the game, have a buff that increases the amount of gold and xp they get from farm and kills. This buff increases the longer you are alive for. It is a little at first, but increases to be substantial. The buff stops/resets when you die or catch up. The buff will also be more substantial if you are EXTREMELY far behind.

This would allow people to catch up so they would never feel powerless and trapped in a terrible game. At the same time it does not cause problems that simply buffing behind players would cause, such as: ---Substantially reducing snowballing and objective taking, thereby destroying game momentum. ---Reducing the rewarding-ness of making plays and winning lane. The buff would take a while to catch up the behind player. Until then the ahead player enjoys being ahead. They can continue to snowball, and take objectives easily. It just means that they have a large advantage for 10 minutes or so, instead of having godly power for the whole game because of something that happened early.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: because the buff RESETS if you die, the buff will not carry people who simply play terrible and don't learn from their mistakes, and players who play well can remain ahead. They only have to "earn it" again, by killing the player to reset the buff; this is much more fair, as doing poorly shouldn't ruin the match forever, and because it reduces the effects of bad luck, such as having a lane opponent who counters you, lag, a jungler who camps you so much that your convinced he's got a fire and marshmellows etc.

PLEASE COMMENT AND CONTRIBUTE, AS I THINK SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD HELP THE GAME. ARE THERE ANY DOWNSIDES TO THIS THAT I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF?

FFS no more god damn band-aids! How many god damn free mechanics do they have to add for people who get behind? If you get behind, ITS YOUR FAULT. You shouldn't get let back into the game for free. You shouldn't get rewarded for playing like shit and the opponent shouldn't get punished for playing well. Fucking league of helpless children

........What a nice way to communicate, be an awful person just cuz its the internet right?

This is a competitive game, but it is still a game. It shouldn't drive you insane for a long time, if there are acceptable solutions.

When skill is about even between opponents, luck is often a factor. Plus, sometimes its not you who's feeding. Are you really happy with the fact that you often face super-fed monstrosities after lane-ing, because matchmaking gave you bad teammates? Don't you atleast want a bit more of a chance for your teammates to recover so you stand a chance of winning?

My idea doesn't give you a way back into the game for free, as those ahead can still snowball like mad, take towers/baron etc before it catches you up. If you throw a game, the buff will not save you in time. It would only get you back to a reasonable power level if you play smart and defensively and survive for a period of time.

If you don't learn, and continue to play bad and die a few times more, the buff will be reset and not increase much, and it will make little difference.

Nor does it punish people who are ahead: they can simply stay that far ahead by killing the person to reset the buff; and if they are ahead that's pretty easy. They will still get to be ahead for a WHILE, before the buff effect adds up. They just wont be gods at 40 mins because they won lane.

I feel like your average life expectancy goes down a lot when you're behind. I'm not sure if tying it to that will be as rewarding as you'd like. I like the idea, but they added snowballing minions this season to make sure games aren't 40+ minutes. As sort of successful as that was.

Maybe if they added this in addition to the snowballing minions, and maybe another small tweak, it would all add up and those really frustrating games would almost never happen.

Being behind is where you find out what you're made of. Most players Gold and under when they get behind they are broken mentally (GG FF at 20) Learning to play from behind is the best learning experience you could ever be handed.

But if Riot did this people would still have to learn to play while behind, and would learn from it. The buff would take a long while to catch them up, and only if they didn't die. The only thing this would do is stop people from being behind and feeling helpless for a very long period of time before the game ends.
