Because Zoe was made by CertainlyT.

If Zoe was made by Jinxylord, people would be praising Zoe's design. Or misattributing her to CertainlyT like a lot of people on the Boards did with Ekko.

I wholeheartedly disagree. CertainlyT is hated because his champions tend to have unfun/toxic gameplay (note: not necessarily unbalanced). People don't hate the champions because they hate CertainlyT, they hate CertainlyT because they hate his champions.

Other champions CT has created: Thresh, Kalista, Yasuo, Zyra, Darius

While I personally love Darius and don't mind Kalista or Zyra, I admit the last 4 are all frequent "fotm" hated champions. Meanwhile we have an outlier that points to my stance being correct because Thresh is generally considered to be one of the most fun and best designed champions in league of legends.

See, this works until you remember what happened with Ekko. In my opinion, people just need a black sheep to flame, and CertainlyT ended up being that sheep.

I seriously still don't understand what's so bad about Zoe. Her Q isn't any more im/oppressive than Vel'Koz's and her E isn't that bad when you compare it to other Burst Mage patterns (Oh you got hit by a Lux Q as a squishy? kbai). The only ability I can see causing any issues is her W, but that's a whole different discussion that goes beyond CT.

I think Ekko is an absolute brilliant design, is CertainlyT responsible for him? When I quickly looked up his champions, it was from an old reddit post so Ekko wouldn't have been on there haha.

I'm not really aware of "what happened to Ekko" though. Are you referencing his incredibly overtuned release state? Because Ekko was the definition of a great design abused by lack of tuning for a long time after release. If you're suggesting that people don't think Ekko is a good design, I would have to disagree. I know several people first hand that absolutely love Ekko, I myself mained him for awhile until I went back to my immobile mages.

As for Zoe, her entire kit revolves around rng and one-shotting, her design is literally to enforce some of the most perceived attributes toxic gameplay. Not only that, but she's boring and binary with essentially only one combo. Also, (according to some people, not me) she has pretty annoying visual/audio effects. My personal most hated thing about Zoe aside from her boring and predictable single combo is the fact that her E's range is huge if going through walls. It creates such a frustrating environment, I absolutely hate it.

If you were an active Boards member at the time, there was an awkwardly high amount of people who hated mobility creep, and thus they hated Ekko and Yasuo, and often associated the two of them together, which led to a couple people misattributing Ekko to CertainlyT. It was more of a funny observation of a bunch of random threads than an actual huge wave, but it was much bigger than it should have been.

I have a lot of issues with people who throw around "RNG is bad for competitive games". Dragons for example are a largely well accepted system in how we can play and plan around their RNG. Compare this to Critical Strike Chance, which some people somehow defend, which you largely can't play or plan around. Zoe in my mind leans closer to Dragon type RNG in that you can see her bubbles coming in the case of minions or you can actively play around with your own summoners in the case of her ability copying. Once people adjust to some of the glaring weaknesses of her W, the RNG arguments against Zoe are going to be more like the RNG arguments against Dragons. True, but not honestly that toxic.

In my opinion, the one shotting thing is another issue entirely. I mean we have champions like Syndra who is consistently unpopular to someone in the crowd, and the Assassin rework happened for a reason. If you read what I said about Kalista, this feels more like a systemic and fundamental issue with League as a whole that's overattributed to Zoe's design. Not saying that Zoe's design isn't based on One Shotting, I am entirely aware how much it sucks to fall asleep as a squishy, but again, this is an issue with one shot champs in general.

The singular combo thing is, ironically, something I thought people would like. With people meming so much about how complicated champions are getting these days, I would have thought Zoe's relative simplicity is a nice breather.

Was that an edit? Anywho my personal thoughts:

Thresh is cool. I don't understand any issues with him honestly, facing him or otherwise. The last time I asked about Thresh in particular, I was told it was shellshock from his release state which was apparently OP.

Kalista must be SUPER ANNOYING...for the champions she is supposed to counter. I can't help but notice that everybody who complains about Kalista site how toxic she is for immobile melee champions. Yes, that's what she's supposed to do, a lot of ADCs do this already, why do you think Vayne top is so toxic? Not saying that Kalista isn't annoying at times, what I mean is that it's a fundamental element of this game that people are overattributing specifically to Kalista and CertainlyT.

Yasuo is just a meme at this point.

Zyra I feel like is similar to Kalista. If I'm playing somebody that Zyra hard counters, well fuck me no lube. If I'm playing literally anyone else. Whatever. Ironically I feel like Zyra's actual problems are actually opposite of what people usually attribute to CT, in that Zyra isn't fun to play since she's relegated to Support instead of Mid.

I never cared for Darius. Was always a Garen fan honestly. Apparently he's similar to Thresh in that older players have PTSD from his release days.

Ya I referenced Zyra, Kalista, and Darius has fotm hate champs because they really only pop up when the meta favors them or they get overtuned. Overall I think they're creative champions, but maybe not the best from a design perspective because they can be downright unfair and frustrating for entire classes of champions.

Okay not the best example since Ebola didn't actually outbreak that bad if it all in the West.

It's absolutely horrible when it's relevant, I won't deny that, the issue is that realistically it wasn't that relevant to most people that didn't live in Africa.

Orianna exists?

Because people just want to bitch.

It's just part of the fotm cycle, they release champs in an OP state on purpose so it becomes popular and increases sales, then they will nerf her and buff an underplayed champ, then release another OP champ. Sprinkle in there some pop culture rip off champs and cutesy fanservice champs and you have riots marketing strategy.

After playing Zoe a bit I don't even think she's in that strong of a state. Some minor nerfs to her cd's and mana costs would easily balance her. (and remove the free klepto, what's that even about?)

Orianna doesn't teleport in and out of lane every minute while redemption the bot lane every couple.

Simply because a too safe and solid mage exists doesn't mean complaints about a mage freely able to collect and abuse Summoner Spells and item actives are invalid.
