Duos harm matchmaking balance?

2 lower elo duo => match against and with higher elo players => gets stomped by higher elo players => not quite fair for other 3 players

Does this sound correct?

This is not correct in my case. I typically get matched with lower elo people when I duo queue. My MMR is pretty high so when I duo queue, my party's average MMR gets lowered thus lowering the MMR of those I get matched with. When solo queuing, I typically get matched with G3-P3 as a G5 myself. When I duo queue with a friend who is also G5, I typically get matched with S1-G1.

That is weird because when you duo queue you should be matched against players with higher mmr than your group average mmr, your friend might have very bad mmr i guess.
