Does "Rework" Mean nerfing to the ground?

Deus Imperator··6 votes·878 views

Why every time a champion gets "reworked" they are gutted to the point of unplayable? such as mordekaiser, fiora and cassiopedia?

why doesnt riot "Rework" Lee,Zed,Yasuo,Riven,Rengar,Fizz,Jax Or Mundo?

And no, i am not pro, i am just a wimpy lv29 new player, i am just saying what i believe i am seeing

Morde and the other juggernauts in general became extremely strong after the reworks

Fiora was temporarily "weak" only because she was harder to play, and when she got buffed, she was monstrous

Also, Jax is fine, Guinsoo's is what made him strong

Since when is Fiora unplayable?

I merely researched old fiora vs reworked one, you know there is a problem when other champs got longer counters (jax) and you can simply run from her ult,QSS,zhonya, or hide in the bushes to negate it

I dont know if she was broken or not before, so apologies in advance if i am wrong

If you think Fiora is weak just because you can run from her ultimate, you need to take a step back and actually look at high level play as well as analyze that your level of play might not be the best scale when it comes to describing balance.

Well I'm gonna work off the things you've offered me.

Morde: When Mordekaiser was reworked, he was BROKEN. At the world championships, he had a ban rate of 89% (number may be just a little bit off, but it's not much of an exaggeration). That's higher than Kassadin's was when he was busted as sin.

Cassiopeia: The thing about Cass is that her playstyle is just bad for the current meta of League of Legends. Her ult i amazing, but that's about it. Ho hum.

Fiora: Same as Morde, Fiora is amazing. She's extremely versatile and doesn't straight up lose any matchups.

Before rework she was broken in both directions. If she got really fed she couls 1v5 the enemy team.

If she fell behind she was basically worthless the entire game.

They seem to have made her less "feast or famine" now. She is still strong but i Havnt seen anyone on new fiora solo the entire enemy team yet.

Mord did get raped hard by the nerfs.... Cass rework was a straight-up failure.

But Fiora? Fiora is doing better than ever, she is actually balanced... possibly even slightly too strong, but definitely not "gutted".

Did we forget the 2 weeks cass was op sometime after rework. I think they even talked about nerfs to her.

I don't think it went through because the flavor gone away pretty quick

She was not op, she was still garbage.

Cass is "weak" currently for a few reasons:

  • You need nearly perfect mechanics to play her to full potential in a fight. You have as much DPS potential, if not more, than an ADC in that case (2.0 E/seconds, amplified Q/W poison).
  • She needs too much time in the early game to get rolling - her mana costs make Tear or RoA a necessity, but you also want AP to be able to use E for reliable last-hitting. Thus, the meta is against her.

Se was OP for some time after her rework, indeed. That was when the second problem described above was circumvented/mitigated by lower mana costs on Q and E and better mana restore on E.

Wrong, they went on to nerf her several times in a row until she was an unviable mess again.

To be fair, Mordekaiser's winrate, play rate, and tourney rate actually went up after his rework, it fell through after his first set of nerfs.

Fiora saw competitive play with her rework.

mordekaiser was considered an OP bot laner until patch 5.22, fiora is a good pick, cass is he only champion on that list that is UP. those champions you listed are not all op, but rather annoying to play against

Missfortune, Fiora, Mordekaiser, Sion, Garen, Darius, Skarner, Viktor, Trundle, and Xerath. All had there win rates go up after their reworks (granted some of these aren't recent). Rework =/= Nerf

L Rayquaza1 votes

Trundle barely got any kit changes with his rework, the only one I can think of is removing the tenacity from Contaminate/Frozen Domain and giving it bonus healing, other than that it was all lore and visuals

i mean, i can see what you're saying with cassiopeia, she's not even viable anymore, but there are lots of champs recently that have become MUCH stronger since their rework

Gangplank Graves Fiora Mordekaiser Heimerdinger Sion

heim just kind of sucks in general but all these champs (with the exception of maybe graves? some graves players are pissed about the rework but he's strong) are a lot stronger than before their reworks. morde got nerfed to shit but good riddance.

Riot reworked Jax twice, he's hardly gutted. Yas is too new and doesn't really need a rework tbh; while he can be oppressive so can Cho'gath. Lee needs.... a lot of things, actually, but there are plenty of champions who need reworks before they even see play. Zed is annoying but not oppressive unless fed to hell. Riven is balanced, but I don't like the idea of a champion balanced around animation cancelling. Rengar just does his job, maybe some minor tweaks, but not a rework. Fizz falls in line with Zed. Mundo is just Mundo. Don't feed him and then just play around him until he's the last one standing.

After seeing what they did to Sona in 4.13, I'd have to agree that Rito sees the word 'rework' to be synonymous with 'gutting.' While Sona was undoubtedly amongst the worst of them, I won't go so far as to say every rework is a failure. Every rule has its exceptions, but I was taken aback when I saw Rito's news post claiming the Fiora a 'failure.' Hers was one of the most successful reworks they've done and they call it a failure, but Sona was arguably the worst and we constantly hear employees say it's not. It's pretty clear Rito's current "Balance" Team's logic is completely ass-backwards, 180 degrees of the truth. This is more and more apparent with every patch.
