So malzahar went through hell for over a year

All because people, or riot (i'm really not sure which came first), complained that he had the ability to dictate the pace of the lane, in this case slowing it down, to some extent even when he was behind.

So I've got to ask, given that the primary contention of malzahar was this idea of tempo and forcing the other play to play at a pace which might not have been the ideal pace for that champion or the player might not like.

Then in the skirmisher update (though really this subclass could be put into the diver update because of how much overlap there is between their items and how silly a 7 champion class update would be) shouldn't yasuo get a similar treatment? In fact, most of the skirmishers would be in need of this kind of treatment. Many of them force the enemy to match their pace, rather than meeting somewhere in the middle, even if they're behind. The only difference being, where malzahar would punish mobile champions and forced them to play at a lower pace, yasuo (and again most of the skirmishers) punish the immobile champions and force them to play at a higher pace.

I don't want to say that this is a double standard, but any argument which is applicable to one is also applicable to the other, in the exact same logical structure.

The difference is he was/is completely uninteractive.

Malzahar just farmed at range with space aids and Voidlings. That's it. No need to bother trading because the laner has to be careful of the space aids cross contamination already which would lead to Voidling aggro which hurts like hell.

Any attempt to actually trade would just meet his spellshield and Q silence and/or R suppress with a point and click.

Well it would've made sense to not give him a spell shield then...

Even in the case that he was uninteractive, that's a matter of opinion if that's worse or better, neither is objectively better than the other. The less interactive a champion the more impact each ability can have. The more interactive a champion is, the less impact each ability can be afforded.

The difference is that his abilities aren't impactful.

If a champion dodges malz Q, and Dashes out of his W before he casts his R (because his R was changed to stretch rather than interrupt mobility), then they're probably going to survive because despite having very good damage, it wasn't enough to kill a champion by itself, now it had the potential to 1 shot given it went uninterrupted and malz was fed, and the enemy had no resistances or health. Though, i've got to ask why an ability like syndra ult isn't worse? It's damage is basically on par with where malz ult was, but it can only be walled (by yasuo or braum) rather than interrupted by silence, Hard CC, or a specific interruption ability (kass Q).

Besides, if you're going to complain about something like voidling aggro, then it sounds like you're saying his rework was worse than his pre-rework. Which it arguably was, because in many ways it actually makes him less apt to interact with his lane opponent. After the rework, where old malz had to wait until like ~9, with about 150 AP to E clear (probably with a Q on the melee minions), the new malz can W, E and back off at level 5.

Trying to balance him around the spellshield was one of Riot's biggest fuck ups with Malzahar, and then the Voidlings issue.

Malzahar doesn't need to kill anyone himself. All he needs to do is just prevent any attempts to kill him and lock down someone in a teamfight for the team to kill him.

Um no, uninteractive playstyles are bad for game design and health.

And yeah that's the general issue.
