has anyone ever managed to follow a dash with a garen q?

just wondering if its possible. most direct targeted gap closers follow enemy movement.

the easiest example would probably be LeeSin hitting q during an enemy dash. weve all seen this happen at one point or another.

with the juggernaut rework, garens auto attack range was inceased by 50 units. to compensate for the fact that it would take him further away from the enemy to follow a q with a spin, they added a micro gap closer of 50 units to decisive strike to compensate. (udyr has a similar one on bear stance if im not mistaken)

the window of opportunity to time this gap closer to an enemy dash would naturally be extremely small.

so i wonder if anyone has managed to pull this off, and if its even possible.

They should give his Q the Warwick treatment, if you hold the button down as you cast it, it follows enemies through dashes/displacement/etc.

that would be an awesome buff.

Yeah its possible, not terribly fancy looking though. You will know that it happened when the Q attack animation completes on thin air but the silence is still applied. Honestly its an easy thing to miss, if you play Garen very much you have probably done this and not noticed it.

nah, that doesnt have anything to do with it.

a champion dashing out of your q animation will always apply the damage and silence regardless. thats because its also an empowered auto attack and any auto attack (melee or ranged) will always connect at the enemies new location when he tries moving away from you.

just a regular vanilla auto attack will connect the same way when the enemy dashes during the animation.

what i mean is if its actually possible to physically follow a dash with a garen q (lets say over a wall) and land next to your opponent when he finishes his movement, in case the micro gap closer happens exactly at the same moment, when the enemy dashes away from you.

the time window for this is microscopic, so even if its possible it would be very unlikely to happen.

Ahhh, now I understand what you are saying, and no this is not possible. Garen's Q is an empowered basic attack with extra range so anyone dashing away is treated the same as if they dashed away from an AA. Consider if someone dashed out of Nasus' Q it doesn't pull Nasus along because it is just a basic attack the same rules apply to Garen's Q.

to my understanding, decisive strike doesnt have extra range.

both his auto attack range and decisive strike range are 175 units. (125 units pre juggernaut update)

but with the juggernaut update, they added a micro gapcloser of 50 units to decisive strike to bring him slightly closer to his enemy (125 units which was his old auto attack range).

this means mechanically his q is also a direct targeted gapcloser (similar to XinZhao e for example) of 50 units. thats why im asking.

I have dashed away from my fair share of garens. He will not dash to follow you.

Yeah I've done it before but, it has to be spot -the- fuck -on. I was following a Ekko dash/tumble when it happened over the smaller wall on River- Mid lane. It is indeed very possible! Have only had it happen twice and it's usually pure luck, the reaction time needed to pull it off on purpose (unless something's been changed recently) and the ability to read your opponent would be top tier esports status.

damn, id love to see that one day. might try it in the practise tool if they ever add some mechanics to the dummies.

It's probably as hard to pull off as jumping over a wall with sion's ult

Only works on small walls and you have i think a similar gap where you can pull it off if you press R

though sion is bit more clunky so it's probably a bit harder for him

but just to give you a heads up, you might be spending days in there trying to get it to work ^^

its harder the shorter the gapcloser is. and garen Q is one of the shorter ones.
