I'm in the same situation, I'd like to see more of them so the gemstones are worth keeping and trading in. Maybe make some more cheaper gemstone items too, like wards and maybe emotes?

This one is loot exclusive, meaning you need to spend 100's of dollars on hextech chests (which just had their value dramatically reduced) to get it.

All the gemstone skins are basically scams.

They don't even look good, so I don't see why it matters one way or another. Each champion the skin is released for has a far better skin for much cheaper. Dunkmaster Darius, Battlecast Kog'Maw, Arclight Vayne, Arcade/Elderwood Hecarim, Panda Annie, Warden/Snowstorm Sivir.

I actually own both Soulstealer Vayne and Hextech Annie, find them pretty nice myself. They are really just glorified 1350 skins since that's what they fall under when you look at the effects they come with.

Those have to be the only decent looking ones, but they are not worth the price, as you said, essentially 1350 skins.

I don’t think you understand what the word scam means.

They aren’t hiding anything. The skins derive their entire value from being rare. It’s why they’ve only been released on champs with a lot of skins already, so you don’t feel bad for not being able to directly purchase it.

They've gone out of their way to make determining drop rates for gemstones and thus the average price to attain these skins a massive pain in the ass to figure out. Any time you ask about it for a new kind of event orb or cache you get no response or some vacuous nonsense that obviously deliberately dances around your question.

They do not derive their value from being rare, they derive their value from being skins with themes that appeal to people. Riot determined a long time ago that players do not actually derive a lot of value out of skins being 'rare', which caused them to discontinue the policy of "limited" skins.

I have all them. Yes, compared to other skins, they aren’t that great. I will likely rarely use SS Vayne after project. That’s not the point.

A scam would be them saying “oh, if you buy 5 chests, you will absolutely get the skin on the sixth” or “if you own all the skins for this champ, all you have to do is buy a single box and you’ll get it!” And then when you do either of those, it doesn’t happen. A scam is a lie, a trick. Not when they just have it where you can’t just buy the skins.

It's not hard to open hextech chests, it's not hard to spend hundreds of dollars on hextech chests. It's just ridiculously expensive and RNG-dependent.

There are other ways to be deceptive than the specific example you give, and Riot is definitely deceptive about gemstone droprates. I've even had Rioters give me completely incorrect advice about the cheapest ways to get gemstones towards a gemstone skin.

They don’t give out drop rates so people don’t game the system (and in case you didn’t notice, no one released that info)

Was that Rioter someone from the loot team giving officially recognized info? Or were they just someone giving what they thought was the correct advice?

Here’s how you can tell if something is scam: are they lying about how to get the skins, as in they no longer give out gems at all? Are they lying about all that skins comes with, as in they advertise a new VO?

If the answer to those questions is “no”, then it’s not a scam. Surprise, they don’t lie about either of those things.

Your arbitrary hypotheticals are not the limit of the term "deceptive"

They are official Rioters who's sole job is to answer questions for the players. They have access to that information and their advice was the polar opposite of correct. Whether that's due to intentionally misleading me or refusing to get the correct information when I know they could is irrelevant. They were still misleading me.

The simple fact that they don't reveal droprates and therefore estimated prices makes the system deceptive to begin with.

How hard it is to get gems doesn't matter. How rare it is to just get the skin as a shard doesn’t matter.

Can you get the skin in the manner they have laid out, or not?

They laid out the rules on how to get a loot exclusive skin. Those are the guidelines.

All you are saying is “they are being deceptive” because they don’t tell you a drop rate. How does that pertain to how the skins are a scam.

Because they don't reveal how much the items actually cost, because they mislead you about how much it will cost you and what the cheapest way to acquire it is.

Cheapest way to get these skins costs exactly 0. In this season alone I got 4 gemstones without paying anything, just from free loot boxes.

If you see getting one of these skins as a long time goal, it changes alot.

Personally I only think a couple of the loot exclusive skins are good, hextech annie, soulstealer vayne, and I'm on the fence about dreadnova darius. The other 3 suck so much dick.

My comment was sarcasm, I said that you can get the mythic skins completely for free, since gemstones are included in the free chests.

oh my bad, I always hear people saying this game isn't free to play, and then I sit and say have you ever played CoC, Clash royale, hearthstone, etc. All those games are "free to play" but pay to win. no matter how much money i spend on league I probably won't get any better aha.
