So, Champion.gg actually paints Kennen as one of the most OP picks in the top lane by a pretty big margin. He has a 58% win rate in the top lane with a 53% win rate overall. What the hell changed to put Kennen in such a monsterous spot?

He does show that his win percentage is steadily climbing from 6.10 to now. I don't see a whole lot of Kennen, so I'm not exactly experienced with dealing with him.

The thing about him is that he builds AP and he's got some pretty sizable cooldowns. It's a little difficult for him to easily stack his 3 Marks because of this, so the ticket to dealing with him is building MR and potentially stunning or rooting him to waste time so that his marks disappear. Additionally, his ult does hit really hard, so be wary of that. His E, the lightning ball speed boost thing, is his escape and one of his most reliable ways to apply his marks, so if he's having to use it to put marks on, you can most likely capitalize on his lack of escape.

balbraaksel1 votesBut it certainly helps Kennen a lot to use his ult effectively. Because of the dash there's less time to respond with CC or burst damage and the damage from the item active is quite good. This item enables Kennen to reach the back line much easier which is where the high priority targets are.

Privileged Jew2 votesSigh. You can't look at JUST win rates and determine that a champ is somehow broken. Often, if a champ is seldom played, it will have a small community of players who main them, and so the win rate goes up because less people play the champ casually.
If it doesn't have an abnormally large play rate, then it's probably not broken.

Sire Hippington2 votesMatchups, irelias pickrate went down a bit for example while shen's went up, and now gues who's good vs kennen and who's not. But mostly because people now rush protobelt and delay the zhonya's, which in combination with the ult buffs he recived some patches ago is pretty huge on him. That instant repositioining with ult on prettymuch makes sure he can always get the full ult off on the important targets in a fight, leading to alot aoe cc and damage. Also, the aditional burst from protobelt is not to be underestimated, especially 1v1. And zohnya's also isn't that hot on him, he doesn't need the statsis cause he wants to move duering his ult and his opponents are usually stunned for the majority of the duration anyway, and the stats it gives are just poor, so people no longer rushing it helps his winrate aswell.
Honestly though, Protobelt is broken on any champ that synergies well with it. The active does stupid amounts of damage if you use it at the right distance. Each hit beyond the first adds another 30( +07% AP) to the 150 ( +35% AP) of the first, with 8 missles total. If you end the dash right on top of your opponent, all 8 missles hit for a total of 360 (+84% AP), and even if you end a bit infront of the target, it's still ~6 missles, so ~300 ( +70% AP).

HongChongDong1 votesFor one thing they reworked his ult to now apply 1 stack instantly upon cast which is a massive change, and 2 kennen was always strong he just needed a bigger player base. Now people have realized that he's basically the Janna of the mid lane so everyone plays him.

I kinda thought he'd be incredibly strong after the last changes though. I used to play other stuff but atm not much reason to (to be fair, I'm RLY good at this champ)
We really have to nerf Rylias first tho TBH. Rylias is core to my Kennen because it lets me 1v1 without my ultimate, which is crucial to winning the splitpush AND the teamfights. W/o it really hard to do both. It gives you a fat ton of HP, AP, and peeling and picking utility.

RcGjWO640w1 votesKennen, like all of the most popular burst top laners right now, hard counter themselves if they can't start a snowball. If you play tanky champions or just play safe in the early game and keep your team informed when they roam, they should never be able to get the farm or kills they need to stay relevant.
Remember that you don't have to kill your laner to beat them. You don't even have to take their tower. If you make them a non-factor in the mid game, you've done your job and you've won. Tanks don't give a shit if they have 3 kills or not.
