"How to get an always-on Attack Range Indicator" can potentially get you banned.

Just a warning.

Its automating two in-game inputs in order to constantly display your attack range.

Automation of any game-related action is against ToS.

remembers my posts in the other thread

That feeling when people shoot the messenger because they don't know how to read English properly.

I really felt for you.

I saw the error of their way and had to correct it.

Much appreciated. Good job on this thread.

This is easily remedied by binding your attack move key to the most convenient button for you and then press that button before every auto attack. I have a zboard merc stealth keyboard which has a gaming key pad on the left side. On this portion of the keyboard there's the 'P' key right where my thumb rests and so I bound my attack move to 'P' and I just press it with my thumb whenever I want to auto attack. By default attack move is bound to the 'A' key however.

Re-binding is not against ToS.

Its binding the range indicator input you have to the same input as another action. That's considered automation which can get you banned.

Yeah, I know that much. I just posted that for anyone reading this post who maybe didn't know. lol

By this logic binding my mastery emote to the same key as a spell is automation and would get me banned?

WoonStruck1 votes

No, because mastery emote does not impact the ease of your gameplay/information relative to other players, even if you edited game files in order to accomplish it.

I was wondering about this when I saw that thread.

We need a Rioter to clarify this honestly. I had my mastery flash binded to my ult, harmless, but I had to edit a file for that and could not get a Rioter to tell me if it was ok or not, so I played it safe and removed it.

Not going to suspend for it now, but couldn't ensure this functionality in the future.

why not just press "a" every now and then?

I didn't even know this exists. Why are people so bad.

You should include the rest of the sentence you quoted from the ToS. Currently it prohibits "automation programs that interact with the Software in any way" such as third party applications that "intercept, emulate, or redirect any communication between the Software and Riot Games and any unauthorized third party programs that collect information about the Game by reading areas of memory used by the Software to store information."

My understanding of the ToS is that the use of dodging scripts which read skillshot locations, in-game jungle timers which tell you exactly when an enemy takes a jungle camp, or cheats that let you see through fog of war are all prohibited. Macros only relay keyboard commands to the server, and they do not read League data to help players dodge skillshots. This is just my opinion though; Riot has given an official statement regarding this subject.

As user Aeszarck mention, a Rioter commented on this. Redditor yace987 asked: "Can Riot please give an official answer ? Will we get banned for doing this or not ?" Riot's respone: "Not going to suspend for it now, but couldn't ensure this functionality in the future." As far as I can tell, this subject is still a grey area, and I think you should provide more detail rather than give this PSA and claim it to be true.

Don't bother, these people think they are on some Honorable crusade to claim a moral highground over some random shit that the community has been doing, and has been encouraged to do by rioters, for many years. Messing with the config files to get the interface to work the way you want and to customize it to handle personal issues with the client has always been something people just do, and have even gotten advice and assistance from rioters to know how to do so many times in the past.

But of course there is a legal line riot is obligated to stick to just to cover their asses like any company needs to.

'We don't punish for this kind of thing right now' -> because the person responding probably isn't high enough authority to be allowed to claim that it will never be something riot decides to restrict in the future, but realistically this isn't likely to happen as it clashes with their company culture and even if they did make this change it would be a big announcement and would come with warnings first

'can't ensure this functionality in the future' - because they don't want to have to keep careful watch to make sure they don't accidentally make a patch that breaks things people have been trying to do outside of the client. They don't want to be dealing with support tickets and 'riot pls' requests and emails because a few people who edited their config file in ways they didn't expect are sad that due to some random change their weird setting doesn't work anymore.

You can't tell this to some people though, they get some sort of high off of thinking they 'really know stuff' and can't help but force that 'knowledge' on everyone else 'for their own safety'.

For people new to mechanics and new to all t he ranged champs, i see a ¨benefit¨ in having indicator always on. one less thing to keep track of.. but its like training wheels. and holding or pressing A lets you see it anyway.

  • people tend to put their faith in assisting addons so much, that they allmost cant play at all without them. so if this option gets removed one day, those who used it, will have a transition period where they either loose interrest or make alot of in-game mistakes.

Like, i mix up smart cast and normal cast depending on the champion and the ability/skill shot. If i reset that or has to fill in for a homie with something urgent that requires him to get afk briefly. I tend to fuck it up so bad... ive played this game for years, but if the setups, shortcuts or functions are not alike, even thou i know it.

  • then i still have a hard time getting used to it. some days it corrects it self fast, but i cant play ranked and compeet with those options.

¨All of this¨ hit me when i was searching for the option to keep indicator on always. And yes, ive also searched for ability CDR addons and wether they are legit to use, witch they are NOT!!!!!! Did 2 - 3 years ago, and trashed the idea. Today i've played so many champs enough, so that i allmost always can calc approx when the enemy CD's are up or ready. You can tell that by knowing the enemy champ, does the ability get lower cdr? pr lvl, how much? if so, does it also scale on dmg pr lvl? and how much. Etc - ability lvl 1 does 25 dmg, lvl 2 it does 35. you got 100 hp, gets hit, only took 25 dmg. witch means lvl 1 in this case.

What we really need is a way to fully costumize placement of everything in the in-game UI. Playing as top base, whilst being ADC or SUP sucks IMO. the charracter HUD even thou scaled down, can make entire champs ¨out of sight¨ But they can see you!...
