Remember when Riot was actively trying to prevent power creep?

Now it seems like they're trying to inject it wherever they can.

Funny how things change.

Edit for those that are curious what I'm referring to:

Movement's been slowly increasing, specific champions are essentially 'allowed' to be powerful by Riot. When champions that Riot likes aren't viable for long enough, Riot buffs them, making them the powerful lot, and so on.

The classic cases are between specific Junglers, ADCs as a class, and Assassins as a class.

You can't tell me you haven't noticed that, since season 1, ADCs have been getting more and more powerful due to this, then Riot buffs ADC early game in season 4 alongside that, making them a huge presence throughout the game so they can 'compete' before 20 minutes. This isn't a bad thing by itself, but the changes that came after made it a bad thing.

Now ADCs are given new itemization that allows them to build to practically any situation, making them what the Zerg in Starcraft II was any time they were powerful. See what the threat is, build the counter, win.

Meanwhile other classes do not get the same luxury, and if they do (juggernauts), they (the items) all get nerfed to the ground for doing their job. ADCs use the items too? Oh, it must not be that their itemization is so slot-efficient that they can afford bruiser items to still scale their damage while also scaling their defense. Its definitely juggernauts that have it too well-off, even though most of the bruisers/tanks using said items are not excelling. Better nerf bruiser itemization further. :)

ADCs have been power-creeping so hard in this game that it almost seems intentional. They don't even try to give other classes the same level of build diversity, despite mages being so desperate for it at the moment.

The worst victims of all this are the champions left out of the cycle I mentioned near the start. They're becoming weaker and weaker each season, effectively. When one finally competes, its usually because their kit is so binary and focused that they're just too reliable. Everyone else just gets left behind until they get Karma'd. Even then, they usually stay out of the cycle Riot loves to endorse.

I too like to be vague to get the circle jerk upvotes.

That quickly turned from a legitimate post about power creep

too just bitching about ADCs

Except ADCs are the core of every instance of power-creep in this game, including Juggernauts.

Melee and ranged ADCs have had an arms race since the game started, and past season 2, Riot tends to give the advantage to ranged ADCs.

Juggernaut patch was an attempt to put a little power back in the hands of immobile melee champions.

If Riot really wanted to fix immobile champs, any champion with mobility should have a MS of 330 or below, while every champion without mobility should have 335 or higher unless MS is an intended weakness, such as high CC mages. After this, juggernaut itemization only activates after you hit a threshold of 380

This means pigeonholing champions with mobility into taking swifties or having an ally with a MS buff in order to make use of specific passives on juggernaut itemization, which is actually a decent advantage.

Meanwhile, true juggernauts can passively make use of their itemization without worrying about outside classes abusing them (outside of ranged ADCs, who are easily solved with a melee only requirement)

Not just power creep either, Mobility is remaining an issue. Some champs flat out abuse mobilityKalista Nidalee Lucian

Mobility is a form of power creep. We're talking overall kit function, whether it be killing power via raw numbers, or mechanical advantages, like mobility and cc.

That said, you aren't wrong.

I think what he means is that in Riot's attempts to give every champion a 'niche' and particular strengths/windows of power, a big side effect of that is power creep. The game wasn't designed from the ground up with the purpose of making every champion uniquely powerful, and since they are doing it champion by champion, batch by batch, this leaves the unattended champions in the dust, weaker than the others. Hence power creep. This strategy is pretty new (mid season 5). Before that, power creep was a problem they were trying to overcome and instead of focusing on unique attributes, they'd nerf whoever was strong in an instant.

I personally think their new strategy is better, BUT, the fact that they are implementing it little by little into a competitive game is pretty bad for game balance, in the short term. Playing against the new/reworked champions as any older champion (and by older I mean last major change before the juggernaut update) can feel unfair, unless you're the kind of champion with an overloaded kit and don't have to worry about strengths and weaknesses.

I do understand that they can't implement every change at once, though, partially because it'd be a balance nightmare post-change, people would have too much to get used to, and because people would complain about lack of content beforehand. It's understandable, but also kinda sucky for us who have to play the game in a state where the power inequality is bigger than ever.

PREACH MY BROTHA, PREEEACH-A!!!

I couldn't have said it better. Riot has been somewhat ramping up the speed however, what with long promised champion reworks coming out soon and so close together. I just hope they can do it fast enough before enough people become so enraged with the current balance state that they leave altogether.
