Ummm, Riot, you might want to rename the "Catcher" subclass

The Support class was renamed to "Controller" after an extensive discussion concerning the community's perception of the Support role, and the general attitude that Supports are lesser-members of the team who serve only to be the carry's bitch. So when I read that you were renaming the Disruptor class after a pejorative term for submissive homosexuals, I actually coughed with laughter.

I think the term would be a Freudian slip.

I honestly think "Disruptor" is a fine name for the class - the issue was the fact you put champions like Teemo in it.

Only you would know what the terms for "submissive homosexuals" are

Have you not heard "catcher" in that context before? It's not uncommon at all.

Now we know what kind of buddies (catchers?) you have too

I found it funny, not triggering. In fact, I would almost prefer they didn't change it just for the banter - but I felt like pointing it out anyway.

Define SJW?

EDIT: I was unclear.

What I meant was this: Define what makes that classification fit a person? IE traits?

You misunderstood my question. Or I was not clear. I know what it stands for.

What I meant was:

Define what makes that classification fit a person? IE traits?

That's a rabbit hole I'd rather not stare into.

Why not?

Because the cyclical discussion of advocacy vs. virtue signalling is impossible to resolve in any meaningful way.

"SJW" is a "free" insult to throw at anybody who mentions anything about demographic representation in any context, and once the term is used, the discussion can only ever devolve into mudslinging and grandstanding.

HalcyonDweller3 votes

I appreciate that you have identified that.

I think people too often confuse 'using morality to assert superiority' with 'standing up for what is right.'

And you're right, using that insult is a sure way to derail a discussion wholly.

How about "pinner" since the role is devoted to champs that pin enemies in place for teammates to follow up on. In Soviet Russia, pinner smokes you ?

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Picker? I mean, they generate picks. This is fairly common though, so I'm not sure it needs its own classification. It's more just a mechanic that a lot of different types of characters have.

I agree that catcher isn't the best name, although not for the same reasons as OP. There just has to be a better word.

How about "Trapper" or "Collector?"

HalcyonDweller1 votes

"Captor"/ "Capture" maybe?

Catcher is just such an awkward word for the meaning / intent behind the choice. it's tough to find good synonyms.

And wouldn't technically other champions fit into this role as well? Say Ahri's Charm or Syndra's Q E combo? These two can 'catch' enemies but they will stay as burst mages. The name "Catcher" does not help any supporting champion when utility is all that is needed to catch a poorly placed enemy.
