Has Runaan's Hurricane ever been a healthy item?

The only time I've ever seen it utilised at a substantial/significant level has been to abuse an on-hit effect in a champion's kit. The item is near-never bought and serves no purpose during this 99% of time in which it isn't a FotM item purchase. It simply exists as one more thing to abuse at the expense of whatever champion is popularised with building it (i.e. the champion gets nerfed and not the item that, frankly, has no reason to even exist).

Why is it bad to have a situational item that people stacking OnHit effects build?

The only reason why it's situational is because Crit chance/damage are broken as balls.

Because as soon as that build becomes FotM the champion (and not the item) gets nerfed. This exact thing happened to Kayle's passive already.

Ironically this is true, but the same can easily be said for all of the other insanely good items. item 3153 item 3074 item 3031 item 3087

oh yeah, note that those are all AD items too... seriously they are so freaking well optimized

But they're general purpose items. If something is so niche and unpopular that it's only used when it's super strong, it's clearly problematic item. I mean, Riot could have at least been consistent and made it an AD Lifesteal item for Ranged Only as a direct counterpart of Ravenous Hydra. At least that way not not a case of the item both applying on-hit effects at x3 the rate AND doing so at a high attack speed.

What do you mean

If something is so niche and unpopular that it's only used when it's super strong, it's clearly problematic item.

That is a well designed item which makes you think about what you want to build and when. All purpose items make the game bland and static. The game shouldn't be in the spot where you build the same 5 main items every game, and then only ever change your boots or a single item based on the enemy team. You should have you're core items taking maybe 2 or 3 (if you include boots) slots, then the rest should be niche items, being build specific for the purpose of countering the items or abilities of the enemy team. If every game on ADC the best build is item 3006 item 3031 item 3087 item 3153 item 3035 you are given one item of freedom.

item 3074 is a terrible item, it's literally one every AD bruiser and it's designed in a way which is optimized to such an insane precision on manaless champions it's completely absurd.

Good on Kogmaw and on Kalista. you can build it on varus. Teemo can make use of it. It is a very niche item that on a lot of champions you can better itemize. However it is not a bad item when used in the right circumstances. Hell it is even seeing LCS play because of Kalista. It is not a core item, it should not be a core item(except kalista). They don't nerf champions for a niche pick item.

If I remember correctly, it can also be used on Cait pretty well, because it charges up her passive quickly.

Anomander1 votes

Yes it does however on cait it is almost completely out classed by all other adc items.

NO it ISN'T AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN . IT is ALWAYS completely out classed by all other adc items.

it's also useless on Teemo, btw

Your opinion. Don't misquote me thinking it is cute. I am very tired of people misquoting me. Feel free to disagree with my opinion. Just don't misquote me. Runnan's is not useless on anyone who applies On-hit. Are there better items? In most cases yes. However just because you think it is worthless doesn't mean it is.

Try it on a ad Kennen. It stacks and applies his w passive to his main target but build the on hit on it really fast. You can actually stun someone every second . Is this a the best build for Kennen? NO OMG NO. Is it even the best adc kennen build? Once again NO. Is it a lot of fun to make the enemy team go WTF keeps stunning me? OMG YES.

As for teemo....(A.K.A Satan) a onhit build with teemo is funny as hell. Build Nashors, Wits end, Bork, Frozen Mallet, and a Runnan's.(last item can be a DC or boots.) This give a insane amount of on-hit damage. It is also mixed damage so they cannot really itemize against you. It provides a AOE slow. Once again is this the BEST teemo build? No. Is this a fun build that is still viable? Kinda. Fun at least.

First item on Kalista (sadly...since it instantly makes her a fucking pain in the ass). Cait for the head shot procs Ashe for team slows Twtich for team poisons Teemo for same reason as twtich Kayle just for a increase in team fight dps Varus to spread his W Kog to be a boss

So 99% is a lie. Its made for champions who have on hit effects...idk what else you'd expect it to be used for. Its the ranged version of the hydra. Is it a good item to have in game right now? No, but that is only because of Kalista.

Complaining about Runaan's Hurricane...never thought I'd see the day

ABlueQuaker1 votes

I've never liked the item. It's a concern of mine that an item so unpopular only becomes popular when it is stronger on a champion than a crit build. Considering the non-stop b*tching I've heard about IE's strength for the last 6 or so months, I think this says something.

Jalkan1 votes

It was originally made for ADCs with AOE spells to further increase their AOE coverage, but it just ended up being an item for on-hit ADCs.

I just watched 3 NA LCS games in a row where the kalista rushed runaans and absolutely wrecked everyone

3 diff people, all 3 wins

Are you sure the problem is Runaan's and not Kalista?

deadlychuck1 votes

It's the combination of the two, you can't put the blame on just one or the other. If Kalista had some kind of cooldown on her passive which limited it to once very .75 seconds (meaning having > 1.5 attack speed would not benefit her mobility) then it might be ok.

Now that said, the infinite stacking E needs to not be a thing. It makes baron and dragon almost 100% impossible to steal, when she can smite dragon harder than a team stacking smites.

High attack speed is not limited to the use of Runaans. Sounds like the problem is Kalista.

Again not Runaans.

deadlychuck1 votes

While it's true high attack speed is not limited to Runaans, it's an item which singularly gives a very large amount of attack speed. Kalista was designed in a way which made her insanely strong with high attack speed. So, what makes Kalista over powered is the ability to buy a single item to grant the attack speed she needs to maximize her synergy with the stat. (to much attack speed and you can't actually use her passive every attack)

It's not a problem with Kalista, because if Runaan's didn't grant such high attack speed it wouldn't be broken on her, but it's also not a problem with Runaans because there are plenty of other cases which can be used to show that it's a balanced item. It's when you combine the two that the absurdity begins.

Mathbalnase1 votes

So long as it's only Kalista that becomes this problematic directly after buying this single item, then yes, the problem is Kalista and not Runaans.

deadlychuck1 votes

It actually makes lifesteal even more insane then it is normally. It's basically a 100% bonus lifesteal if there are targets nearby. That fact alone is why i argue that item 3074 should have it's lifesteal removed. The ability to gain AOE lifesteal is insanely strong. Yeah hurricane can also apply on hit effects, but normally for most people it's a very late game item, due to it's lack of natural stats.

Fizz is not Fish1 votes

I am sure Kalista or Runaan will be changed. That item makes Kalista's E 0 difficulty.

No Runaan: AA minon,AA champ,E=>refund half mana, reset cd

Got Runaan: AA champ,E,AA champ,E=> refund all mana, reset cd No mana cost, double life steal, better wave clean than Sivir, infinity E.

I don't think theres really anything wrong with runaans or kallistas, just melee as a whole and ashe needs some buffs lol (kallista can do everything ashe can do but better)
