Sona E is still 1% extra movement speed per rank

RedCyclone··7 votes·632 views

Can we please give her E something to make it actually DO something and get MORE POWERFUL when you rank it up

Easiest solution would be to make every rank decrease the cooldown by 1 second, so at rank 5 it becomes 8 seconds Would help Sona's abysmal lategame as she drops off in usefulness drastically after 35 minutes, would also help the feel of her passive as a lower E cooldown at max rank would make her spellweaving for Powerchord much less of a "Better wait for my weakest and longest cooldown non ult spell to come off cooldown so I can stack my chord"

Because with her current E, Sona's max level may as well be 14 because it does literally nothing when you rank it from 1 to 5.

implying the extra movement speed isnt powerful....

1% per rank isn't at all it's literally 3 or 4 extra movement speed depending on how much MS you have and that is all, if you go over 450 MS gets softcapped so there is no way it can get higher then 4 extra speed unless you are doing something silly like hacarim ghost, ghostblade, phantomdancers, mobis

meanwhile we have other supports who get 10%+ extra MS per rank in their movement speed skills

if you have 350 movement speed, then 5% of that is 17.5 ms. a lot of champions have more than that, and then there are still boots and their upgrades that factor into this bonus.

early game the ability might not be that great, but lategame its pretty damn noticable.

Crescendo scales by 10% + 1% per Rank afterwards. then 3.5% per 100 AP. then 2% per ult rank.

Base values without AP is 20% MS buff for 1.5 seconds to all allies that walk into your circle.

You need 300 AP to give it 10.5% extra MS on top of its base values. At max rank. Woop de friggin do.

Meanwhile Shurelia and Righteous Glory. Woooooosh.

Pretty much this

Kinda shitty when an item is a titan in comparison to one of your skills, it feels bad

I think it's an ability like that can be used multiple times, while an item only once in the same time window.

thats 30% additional movement speed at which the enemy team will be flying around. yea, thats quite a lot.

the problem is, that you can stack all that. well, the glory that is. and the coin.

That's 30% additional movement speed IF you manage to just build 100 AP as a support. Either you're fuckin snowballing off your ass, or you manage to build a singular AP item running a glass-cannon AP rune page. Which at this point, on Sona, will rarely ever work unless your opponent actually let's you win.

So basically, you have a 3 second 13% self ms buff and a 1.5 second 10% ms buff to allies. In lane, that means you're giving a singular person 10% movement speed, +1% for that 30 AP you maybe have.

Assuming a base ms on the ally of 340:

11% ms buff will equate to a raw 37.5 ms.

Boots give 25 flat ms, which are upgraded to give at least 45 ms.

Kayle gives a 17% MS + Heal at Rank 1 (30% base at Rank 5) coupled with a 7% AP scaling.

Bard Shrines offer a decaying 50% ms buff for the same duration as Sona, while also healing.

Janna's passive gives 8% while running to her.

Karma's shield grants 40% Movement Speed at Rank 1 with a shield.

Nunu gives an 8% MS buff with a 25% Attack Speed buff that lasts for -12 seconds-.

Lulu grants a 30% MS buff for 3-5 seconds that also scales with 10% AP.

Hell, Nami's abilities on allies will passively grant them 40 flat ms for 1.5 seconds with a 10% AP scaling.

Sona's E is probably one of the absolute worst ms buffs an ally can possibly want. Even non-supports do her job better, and in laning, the base values of other supports that could fit her play-style just do it better and often provide better CC, damage, or healing/shielding overall.

youre telling me you dont get 100 ap on sona? lol, k.

apparantly i have travelled in time and this is season 2 again, or ive missed where they removed all the ap from support items again.

You do realize how many support items actually HAVE AP?

Or what do you consider support itemization? Because I don't consider Lich Bane, Grail, Morello's, or Deatchcap support items.

item 3504 40 AP item 3222 0 AP item 2045 item 2049 0 AP item 3050 Harbinger as 50 AP item 3092 50 AP

Congratulations, with these items, you too can have 140 AP, giving your E an extra 4.9% MS buff! My god! It's totally not like every single other AP support I listed has better scalings than a 3.5% AP ratio!

RedCyclone1 votes

4% starting rank does not count as I am talking about the skill on ranking it up you also need to count that the buff it'self does not last very long when you compare it to other support movement speed steroids

Earlygame level 4 and lategame level 18 E is barely any different in noticability if you have little AP, it's 10% more what may sound like a nice amount, but then you realize it's a 14 level difference

Mandang01 votes

4% is 4% (1% per rank with only 4 rank ups). If you're chasing someone, then you catch up by an additional 4% of the distance they travel while running (assuming you have the same base movespeed before the %buff). This is also assuming you don't hit the softcap.

If someone's 100 units out of range and fleeing, you need to chase 100/0.04 = 2500 distance for the 4% additional movespeed to make up the difference. Sure, 2500 isn't very far, but 100 is just about the smallest range gap worth considering.

This is also why the utility ratios (not just Sona's) are largely trash, because they specialize in small amounts of movespeed rather than, say, straightforward damage ratios that mage supports get (and just wait for new Zeke's to go live too...)

Metrics actually support the OP, the highest win rate sonas don't spend a single point on E until lvl 8. That said I fear an buff to her E would lead to another meaningful nerf to her as a champion.

RedCyclone1 votes

Her E used to be 7 on a second cooldown, and be slightly better as the constant movement speed aura was good at all points in the game

She wasn't anywhere near overpowered back then

Ser Garland1 votes

Yeah, back then though she couldn't burst you for half your health with one Q and an Auto.

RedCyclone2 votes

She did more damage back then Q had more base damage and a 0.7 ratio Powerchord did 100% extra damage, opposed to the current 40% it also was on a 7 second cooldown too

Abyssphere1 votes

The reason her E gets such a pathetic increase with every level is so that you don't feel bad for not leveling it. It scales fantastically with AP and rank in her ultimate so that it can be a one-point wonder. It does mean she falls off in effectiveness after she's maxed her Q and W but that's going to happen regardless. But the scaling on her E is setup to give her a very smooth power curve until the late and I would prefer to have a strong E in the early-mid than an E where I need to wait until like level 16 for it to be effective.

RedCyclone1 votes

If it had the 1 second decrease in cooldown per rank I am willing to bet that 99.9% of Sona's will still only grab a point of it at level 4/8 and max it last as always doesn't shoot the skill to stupid proportions, just gives it an actual noticeable upgrade so you actually feel something when ranking it up

Also by your logic every champion should have a skill what does nothing when ranking it up, because you would feel bad for not leveling it...

1000angrybees1 votes

I used to rank it up before E all the time so I could escape faster. Then I realized it's pointless so I just get AP, rank it once at level 4, and try to remember to rank up W before E.

Theorchero1 votes

No.

She's been repeatedly gutted over and over for a reason. When she's strong she's absurd to play against, especially in lane.

RedCyclone1 votes

last time I checked there was no real reason for nerfing her every single time she gets nerfed, some statement from Riot is "she is oppressive" or "she is elbowing out other supports" even though in 95% of cases she is not even top 3 picked supports

True fucking story

How long have you been playing league?

I've been playing since season 1, and until Thresh and his ilk came out, sona was one of the best supports in the game. Her biggest problem is hidden power through aura stat boosts, and because they wanted to make her feel impactful these auras were way too strong. She was repeatedly nerfed in that department because she needed it. In addition, her E was an aoe Shurelya's which at the time was the best support item in the game. Before righteous glory, support items, everything the only aoe speed boosts was Shurelya's Reverie, sivir ULT and her E. That's it. Throughout this entire time she has still been good at "poke" (if you call a quarter hp lvl 1 poke) until she can straight up kill squishies with lich bane.

Even discouting that her kit isn't as flashy as other supports, she's incredibly easy to play with retarded damage for a support (even more than Zyra) with one of the best stuns in the game.

Wickedfates1 votes

funny thing is, at least for me, my support Sona does not tend to make it past lv 14 all that much, unless the game is going for like 40 mins, which means there are other problems.....

but ya.... the increase is sad, but at latter levels when you are "suppose" to have a little bit of ap the buff isnt too bad... its vry short though.... its not an escape mechanism, its part of her poke kit/utility more than anything

riot does not like her because of unknown numbers that they dont feel the need to share with the player base... even though they have stated they balance at plat+ where sona is rare support.....

i honestly think that a lot of sona's problems come from the fact that riot puts a power cost to her ability's ability to affect all 5 of her teammates, so it multiplies the abilities 5x.... while this is not what happens all game long, they balance it towards the higher end rather than the lower end of only affecting herself, or maybe an adc as well....

but ya... the squishiest support out there, who is an aggressive poke support, with low mobility, no escape, and has to be right in the middle of the team fight to be effective.... haha but man, if they dont focus u then you can shine.... if

ah well, i play her because i like her, not because she is op or whatnot

Sona love
