If wards gave some clue that they were there, if they telegraphed their presence, then we wouldn't need a 'warded' ping. And if wards telegraphed themselves, they could afford to grant vision in more interesting, powerful ways and even be FREE. Do you mean something like the ward debris? If someone managed to get it in the right spot of balance (Subtle and hard to see but not impossible) I think it could work but it would be hard to find the sweet spot. I do, however, agree with the idea of more interesting wards, I think there is a lot of potential with vision.
