I remember when players picked supports to contribute without dealing damage.

Nowadays every meta "support" has extreme base damage to the point where they regularly outdamage allies even when behind on gold. I think riot has forgotten the definition of the support role. They released pyke, a very mobile reset ad assassin, and said "this champion is meant to be played in the support role." Let us be real, pyke does absolutely nothing to support his adc, or his team. He can't do anything if adc gets poked. If he falls behind, he becomes essentially useless because he is a reset assassin, and he won't be able to get resets. Riot even went further with this and shoehorned him into building lethality items, making him even more feast or famine, as he will never get support items. They keep promoting brand and other mages in the support role. Some of these mages provide nothing but damage to the team, and only a single stun that is unreliable. However, riot is balancing brand and zyra around the support role by giving them extreme base damage and low ratios. This leads to them out damaging their whole team even when behind. Even with enchanters, riot has constantly buffed their offence while nerfed their defence, meaning they became poke mages in the early game being able to match adc damage until at least 2 items. One of the biggest causes of this is that support income is the highest it is ever been. Not only that, but now the sightstone is tied to the gold item means that supports have even more money to spend. Spellthiefs is an overpowered item, granting 39 extra damage on a combo. I suggest that the gold items get a 20-40% nerf to their gold generation. Generating 2k gold for just 850 gold is way too efficient. Also, these mage "supports" need their base damage toned down, but compensate with some ap scaling to bring them back mid. Pyke neds to be redesigned into a regular ad assassin.
