Why is Cassiopeia rarely played?

Hallbuster··2 votes·2,835 views

Some people make the argument that she's hard to play, but I really don't think that's true, coming from a bronze 2 player. I got her mechanics down in less than 10 games and started carrying a few of my games already. In terms of difficulty, I found Ryze and Zed to be the most challenging, yet still often picked.

Cause she's boring as hell.

Her gameplay is non-existent, and she really only wins fights when her team can just body for her while she melts everything.

Hallbuster3 votes

Doesn't that apply to all squishies?

SSmotzer2 votes

No, because most squishies you can feel how powerful you are and how much you are contributing, where with Cass you just throw down poison and don't stop pressing E and they just melt, unlike the satisfying pop you get with other squishies.

So basically the opposite of the satisfaction I feel when I kill an enemy as Jhin with my 4. shot? Because you are constantly spamming stuff and it doesn't feel as impactful as a single strong hit?

SSmotzer1 votes

Yeah, Cass just doesn't have that power single thing that makes her feel special.

personally i'd like to watch them melt then pop them.

In terms of difficulty, I found Ryze

I wouldn't use the word "difficult" to describe anything about Ryze.

You have to position perfectly to get damage done. He's the only champion I gave up on because he was too difficult to play effectively, at least for me.

... um, Ryze is commonly understood to be one of the harder champs in the game to master. His win rates at various elos reflect that. He has skillshots, and proper understanding of positioning to take advantage of his ult is really important. Also, getting his combos right is both mechanically and cognitively demanding.

Compared to other champs in this game, he has a lot going on.

Exactly, glad someone agrees.

What a blatant load of bullcrap.

Let me correct you: Ryze has a single (1) (one) skillshot on his Q. But that doesn't matter because he has an instant targeted root which can just prevent people from dodging it. HIs E is also targeted so there's no real skill involved in that part of his kit either. I guess you could argue that he does HAVE two combos. He can either E then W or E then Q. There's no incentive to do Q over W as your second cast, but it's there if you feel like it I guess.

His R is the only mildly difficult thing about his kit, but it's nothing I would use the words "mechanically and cognitively demanding" for. In fact, I couldn't help but laugh at that entire post until I realized you were serious.

She's not as flashy as Ryze and Zed. People want to look 'cool' while they beat opponents, even if they can't actually beat their opponents with those champs.

She's hard to play at a high level. You are in bronze 2 so you could probably dominate with anything.

High level cass's can animation cancel and orbwalk perfectly which is essential to playing Cass at a high level. Most low elo players can't do this so they don't play her.

She's also kind of boring

I don't think she's boring to play, Landing a good 4 or 5 man ult on cass is almost as great as landing an orianna shockwave. The problem is unless you're Karthus, a sustained damage dealer is too team reliant and I like feeling more in control in my games. It's far easier to get all your burst off in one full rotation, like Orianna's Shockwave combo than poison and kite repeatedly, HOPING that your team is able to peel for you. You're playing an adc mage (in 2017 LUL). And if you get take down early, that's a lot of the team's damage gone. If you blow up Orianna after the shockwave has blown up or chunk the enemy mid and adc by 90%, you don't care (too much) as Orianna cause your job is done it's just for the sustained damaged ADC to clean with the the remaining peel.

not to mention, too many champions will have abilities that ignore her kiting

Shes is kind of the High risk and not so great reward champ, needs lots of micro-management against good teams, also, the lack of "publicity" riot gives her is almost none-existent, no type of Cass merchandise, no skins in 4 years, nothing. Also, I dont think many people like snakes. I think she is fun to play though.

Requiemsfire1 votes

I find her boring, that is why she's my least played mage.

She plays like an ADC in a lane where she has no support

She has a hard time surviving vs active jungler and assassin. If she gets behind, she can feel like a insanely underpowered

Also, I still play her. The rework made her into a passive laner but she used to be quite a bully...

Too bad

I don't know much about how you play but Cassiopeia's level 2 powerspike is insane. You have to abuse it. Sometimes people don't even want to flash resulting in an early FB. And then you snowball from that point onwards.

Linna Excel1 votes

Some of it is lack of mobility, some of it is that in higher elos, teams know to shut her down.

AgeOfTheMage1 votes

well, the same goes to mordekaiser, yorick, tahm kench, etc. cause they aren't flashy or mobile. (i still play them though <3)

I broke my E key on my keyboard trying to play her. Then I gave up.
