With AP getting heavily reduced with Blue Buff having the 15% boost removed (pretty big deal actually) and Rylai's getting nerfed by 30, we could tweak some of the current items that are not seen as often.

item 3089 Rabadon's Deathcap Recipe: item 1058 + item 1026 + item 1026 + 950 Gold = 3900 Gold +125 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive: +40% Ability Power Old Gold Efficiency: 92.72% Gold Efficient by itself Gold Efficiency: 97%~ Gold Efficient by itself

item 3285 Luden's Echo Recipe: item 1026 + item 3113 + item 3108 + 900 Gold = 3500 Gold +100 Ability Power +20% Cool Down Reduction +6% Movement Speed UNIQUE Passive – ECHO: Gains charges upon moving or casting. At 100 charges, the next instance of ability damage you deal will expend all charges to deal 100 (+ 10% AP) bonus magic damage to the first enemy hit and summon up to 3 lesser bolts that target nearby enemies, prioritizing enemies damaged by the ability and champions over minions. Old Gold Efficiency: 80.31% GOld Efficient without the passive Gold Efficiency: 84%~ Gold Efficient without the passive

item 3030 Hextech GLP-800 Recipe: item 3145 + item 3010 + item 1052 + 515 Gold = 3100 Gold +300 Health +400 Mana +100 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive – ETERNITY: 15% of damage taken from champions is gained as mana. Spending mana restores 20% of the cost as health, up to 25 per spell cast. UNIQUE Active – FROST BOLT: Fires a spray of icy bolts that explode, dealing 100 - 200 (based on level) (+ 35% AP) magic damage to all enemies hit (40 second cooldown, shared with other Hextech items). Enemies hit are slowed by 65% decaying over 0.5 seconds. Old Gold Efficiency: 103.33% Gold Efficient without the passive or active Gold Efficiency: 112%~ Gold efficient without the passive or active

item 3003 Archangel's Staff Recipe: item 3070 + item 1058 + item 1052 + 615 Gold = 3050 Gold +250 Mana +80 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive – AWE: Grants bonus ability power equal to 3% maximum mana. Refunds 25% of mana spent. UNIQUE Passive – MANA CHARGE: Grants +8 maximum mana (max +750 mana) for each spell cast and mana expenditure (occurs up to 2 times every 8 seconds). Transforms into Seraph's Embrace at +750 mana. Old Gold Efficiency: 72.68% at 0 stacks, 122.33% at max stacks Gold Efficiency: 75%~ at 0 stacks, 127%~ at max stacks

item 3135 Void Staff Recipe: item 1026 + item 1052 + 965 Gold = 2250 Gold +60 Ability Power UNIQUE Passive: +35% Magic Penetration Old Gold Efficiency: 65.66% Gold Efficient without it's passive Gold Efficiency: 67.5%~ Gold Efficient without it's passive

These are just some overall tweaks to AP itemization, mainly buffs to currently underappreciated and underused items. Rabadon's Deathcap is changed to provide champions that are losing out on tons of AP from these constant changes more AP, but a slightly increased cost. It's build path is modified to make finishing the item not be such a headache as well. Luden's Echo is changed to be a new 20% CDR item at the cost of 4% Movement Speed. It's recipe is modified to fit in these changes and it's cost is increased by 400 Gold so that it isn't insanely stat efficient with the new 20% CDR. Hextech GLP-800 is changed to make it to where is now a 100 AP item for those using it. It's a much better 100 AP slow item than Rylai's since it's slow as a much smaller window. Archangel's Staff is the least modified, just having it's recipe modified to make it have a better build path and having it's cost reduced by 50 so that it is solidifed as an early game-early mid game purchased AP item. Void Staff is modified to be a better item that you get quickly when the enemy is building MR, but it provides less overall damage by itself.

Why he hell does Luden's need CDR now? so you can go 40% CDR at no real sacrifice? Everyone will just goitem 3165 item 3285 now for 40% CDR and buttons of AP.

Because Luden's kind of stinks right now on everyone. If you ever build it, it is because you are usually manaless and every other Mage item provides Mana.

Except it doesn't? And even then, this is not even close to the buff it would theoretically need.

If you wanna buff Luden's at all, buff the ratio on it's proc. Giving it 20% CDR is just stupidly overturned. Especially if you aren't gonna lower the AP on the item or remove the %movespeed.

Whatsmore, lowering the amount of bolts on it is silly and making it do more damage to one person and less to others both removes its main utility (increasing artillery damage) and makes it pointless for its second (waveclear). it would also be unreliable and inconsistent on AoE spells hitting multiple people.

While I would love to play Veigar and go item 3020 and then the rest would be item 3089 and literally demolish the faces off of them.... it's a BIT too much AP... And it would surely be nerfed!

Rushing Rabadon's as Veigar is actually really bad because you need CDR to snowball kills and be able to place Event Horizon more often. Pure AP as Veigar, while it looks amazing, isn't a very game plan since CDR actually gives him more reliable AP over the game than just buying pure AP. Also, it isn't wise to balance Rabadon's around a champion with infinite AP scaling. It would be wiser to do the opposite.

there is one thing that mage mains seem to conveniently forget, every time theyre looking at ap itemization and the overally reduction to ap on items. (slight reduction, i might say. they did significantly raise ap on items like morellos and guise)

that they came with nerfs to the big mr items.

item 3102 lost 200 hp item 3065 lost 15 mr

are mages actually suffering right now? i mean i enjoy playing a couple of mages myself. but do they really need an overall buff right now? seems to me like theyre doing fine.

No, I'm a mostly AP player and the majority of mages are fine. Small amounts of AP aren't going to make or break them.

The only thing is, I wish they had some better big ticket items. That's it. Lots of their items have been reduced to relatively mid grade or niche pick with only a few that are really good high gold items. They woukd have to be appropriately priced, but it would be nice to have one or two more options.
