Leona Jungle

I miss when this was possible. Buffs vs monsters pls? Clear is absolutely glacial, even if you are just going for the buffs. Smite comes off cooldown during every single camp. Even Shen clears faster than that. Last season, Leona was my favorite unconventional jungle choice. Since you're already sacrificing overall clear for early ganks, at least let her finish her early clear soon enough to actually gank.

The easiest buff to make her viable in the jungle is to make it so she can proc her own passive on Jungle creeps.

I agree. I think that might even be all she would need. A Riot post once suggested they were looking at letting her proc her passive on minions, but I don't know how far that idea went.

Doesn't cinderhulk make her clear times better?

After you get it, it really helps. It's just that her early farming is so impossibly slow that you can't farm one up until maybe your second or third back at best. Maybe I could run better runes for it, but early ganks would essentially be out of the question, and strong early ganks are the only reason to play Leo jungle.

Well she does have nice early game, but she also transitions into the mid and late game pretty well. Level 6 makes her ganks so much more dangerous and lategame cinderhulk scaling will make her nearly unkillable.

I assume you run MS runes and you think that without them you won't be able to gank properly?

I don't remember what runes I was running. I do know that I didn't have cinderhulk or possibly even a brami's cinder until around level 6. Is this something that you already play yourself? Do you have a rune setup that works?

I did play jungle Leona in the Season 5 jungle, but in normals with my friends, so I don't think it can be used as a serious example. I used attackspeed/ad page to help me with the early clear. I also did not upgrade machete and went straight for bami's cinder. But it was a very goofy game, so I can't really say that it's the best way to pull it off.

weren't you getting low on health or mana without trailblazer? Also I count normals, I don't typically play odd things in ranked.

I've never played her jungle, but do you think full AD masteries and some damage from runes could change those early clears enough?

TheLastBaron882 votes

armor yellows are pretty much mandatory for jungle, but i guess you could do whatever you want with the rest. Usually use scaling MR blues. But I guess some flat ad could help. Not a bad idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

It takes awhile to get it though.

AD marks, armor Seals, MRpL or armor glyphs, Armor or AD quints. 9/21 masteries focusing on AD, making sure to get all the anti-monster stuff and Double edged.

TheLastBaron881 votes

Not attack speed reds?

Sirsir2 votes

Meh, maybe. I lose track of which is better in which situation... I'm told AD is better on tanks, unless they have the magic damage to pull off Hybrid Pen marks (which Leona does NOT) or some on-hit effect or per-hit skills that makes it better (Like Shyv and Naut, respectively)

Just go tax lanes until you can get jungler item. They will hate you early game but late game when you are tanking everything and diving hard, they will thank you. :D

TheLastBaron881 votes

eh I'm not trying to set my lanes behind. The point of having a jungler is to help your lanes to farm up and level faster. Also to apply map pressure.

Linna Excel1 votes

You need to get 1-2 damage items on her to make it work and TBH, there are better tank junglers out there.

TheLastBaron882 votes

Right exactly, there are plenty of tanks who have way more damage who can jungle effectively. I really liked jungling Leona back in the day because you had to succeed using just your amazing utility for ganks. She was able to farm just well enough to keep up in levels for the most part, but that was it. Plus the fact that it was so unconventional that people underestimated it.

I took attack speed quints, ad reds, armor yellows, scaling MR blues I did somewhat ran out of hp, but not really (hp pots helped out) I also never take double-edged sword on tanks, it seems counter intuitive when you plan on building only tank stats
